https://chrome.google.com/webstore/de...).

Well, when I saw the "Cleanreads Rating" suggestion and the negative reception by Goodreads outside of this group I thought maybe it'd be fun to write a script that does something similar on Goodreads. Ha.

So here's a Cleanreads script.

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/372...

More details, install/usage instructions, and what it does can be found on the link, but it's pretty basic. So far it searches the description, top reviews, top shelf names, and the Clean reads bookshelf for the book and certain search terms. The search terms are also editable in settings. Based off of the number of search term matches, it then gives a clean/not clean rating.

Hope this is of interest to some people. It's not always accurate, but you can always look at why it decided to rate it clean or not.

Here's an example result:

More info can be seen in the greasyfork link above or on the Github repo:

Lisha (momcares) | 17 comments This looks perfect! I think it would help a ton. It just takes too long to weed through all the reviews to try to find what I am looking for. I don't know a lot about script and code, so I asked my daughter who is an information systems major and she said it should work great.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 271 comments That's very clever!

Another way, and this is just from experience, is that I tend to know which authors are clean and which are 'realistic' and then there are those that are likely to spoil my reading experience!

There'd be nothing to stop someone listing authors, I suppose? A mod might start a thread and somehow allow readers to add authors to that list and for that to always show at the top of the page. ??? Just a thought for a quick, perhaps temporary, solution and not very well thought through!

Lisha (momcares) | 17 comments The beauty of the script is that it will work for any book already in good reads. I have a ton of sites that give Book ratings, but they never seem to have the information on the book I want to know about.

Cathy (travlnbard) Is there a way to edit the list of words it checks? Right now I think the list is too limited. Most of the books I checked were 0/0 unknown.

Kind of, that's what I want to expand. It's possible to edit the code to add your own words, but I could probably work on letting the user add options without digging into code as well as adding more by default. I can focus on that feature when I get a chance.

Carinne Gee | 7 comments Looks great but it might be beyond me to install. I have to install multiple things in order to install the script right?

Herman Fassett (hermanfassett) | 18 comments Just a browser extension to run the script and then the script itself. I can make a video of how, I also have an update to the script I'm trying to finish since it's pretty basic as is, just been a little busy.

Carinne Gee | 7 comments I’d love a video tutorial. I’m relatively tech savvy but it confused me a bit and I’m always hesitant to just start downloading stuff onto my computer without knowing what I’m doing.

It now allows editing of the terms it checks in reviews/description/top shelf names.
