Welcome! We have a tracking spreadsheet here where you can place any books that you know you will be reading the first week. Or you can post them in this thread and one of us will add for you.

Any other questions, just let us know!

Question for the day

Are you doing any other NBRC challenges? What are they?

For me, I do the NetGalley challenge every month to keep myself on track with those books.
I'm also on the TBR Tackler challenge for 3 months. I did my September book on the last day of September haha. Now I have two more to finish before the end of November

And then I have Cleaning out the TBR Closet which I am not doing so well at this year. I think I actually need to remove some books from my TBR as I never feel like reading them

message 108: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I think I have the Cleaning out the TBR Closet challenge too - but I confess I have been HORRIBLE at updating individual challenges. Earlier this year I got overeager and signed up for too many - because they all look so good! I'm going to keep that one updated though.

Oh and I'm doing (although need to update) the Goodreads Choice 2017. I really like that one.
It is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I know I'm usually terrible too!

Oh I didn't do that one this year. Maybe I should've because I've already read 14 of the GRCA from 2017 haha

— Massiel (rollitosdecanela) | 512 comments I'm doing the Around the World challenge (I loved it so much!) Also, I just finished the Don't worry, be happy challenge. And the last one I'm doing is The Twelve Towers (almost finishing it).

message 111: by Lexi (last edited Oct 09, 2018 03:42PM) (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments I join too many. I am in this one, my Around the World Team is probably stopping as we are only three people, I am in TBR closet and have finished that one for this year and in NPR best book list, I have two to go. I am also in Twelve Towers and may abandon. I have reached the one year mark today and have 15 books to go. It was just too many books to keep track of.

message 112: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments I'm not doing other challenges in NBRC, I'm doing 2 challenges with 2 other GR groups (monopoly and zoo).

oh that's a shame. I'm happy to jump in as a hitchhiker if you like. I haven't played that one for a while. I have exams next week, but after that I will be able to actually get back into reading. Hooray!

We are a special rules team so we haven't been able to find a hitchhiker. We only read books where the author is from the country. (Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia were a challenge). We are also really, really slow so it is a book every few months so I think most people loose interest.

Chava | 1522 comments I played the Round the world game to start with. I enjoyed it a lot.

message 119: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Around the World was my first-ever group challenge back in the day. My group did 2 whole spins...
Right now I'm doing the Twelve Towers, Cleaning Out the TBR Closet & a bunch of others. Never mind the ones I'm doing with other groups!! I suck at going back and updating. I probably only do that quarterly.
My biggest problem this year is that I was on vacation at Christmastime & pretty bored, so I signed up for a whole bunch of challenges, but I didn't write them down the way I normally do. So now it's pretty much hit or miss. I do love the big group challenges, though. Since reading is such a solitary activity, I feel as if the challenges connect us with others. And they're just fun!

I do the Popsugar one with my mother. I started when I lived out of the country so we could discuss books. We have one-two to go and are considering the advanced list this year for the first time. I also really like Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge.

Tina ❣ (nutrinut) | 2000 comments I added in a book and updated my other ones in the spreadsheet. I won’t be reading them all though. I’ll read whichever has the most benefit to us.

I’m apart of 5 team challenges right now and quite a few individual challenges mainly in this group. I think I’ve joined too many. Ah well

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I'm a moody reader so am not yet sure what I'll be reading. I'll be on the road too so we'll see as the dates come closer.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Today's Question:
And so... What are YOU reading right now?

message 125: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments I am a serial book starter. I read multiple books simultaneously. Right now GR tells me I'm currently reading 54 books! I won't go into all of them, but the best of this crop are: The Poppy War, It, Death of a Pumpkin Carver, Give Me Your Hand, Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen, The Cabinet of Curiosities & The City of Brass. Call me crazy, but I'm obsessive and this is just how I roll!

The Poppy War (The Poppy War, #1) by R.F. Kuang It by Stephen King Death of a Pumpkin Carver (Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mystery #8) by Lee Hollis Give Me Your Hand by Megan Abbott Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen by Susan Gregg Gilmore , The Cabinet of Curiosities (Pendergast, #3) by Douglas Preston The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy, #1) by S.A. Wow, I have eight under currently reading, and that is a lot for me. Only three are truly active and 1 sort of active: An Unseen Attraction, Stray, Winter Tide and The Undertaker's Daughter.

I'm also a serial offender when it comes to books, I read many at the same time. That's because I'll have an audiobook for driving, an ebook for during the week and a hard copy for when I don't have access to my Kindle.
I'm currently reading: Snap by Belinda Bauer as a hard copy, Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty as an ebook (ARC) and listening to Crazy House (Crazy House, #1) by James Patterson

message 128: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Oh wow - i fit right in with you multi-readers! I've been trying to control it more lately. I just finished listening to Missoula Rape and the Justice System in a College Town by Jon Krakauer today - which was sadly timely given current events. I'm starting Paradox Bound by Peter Clines as my new audio - I wanted something light.

I'm reading Whisper Me This by Kerry Anne King - I thought the title sounded kind of like suspense, but thus far I cannot tell what it is! I'm also reading Four Weddings and a Sixpence An Anthology by Julia Quinn which is nice and fluffy :)

message 129: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments I don't even attempt to control my multiple book proclivity anymore! I just go with it. I do seasonal things like now horror for October, heartwarming for Thanksgiving, & (duh!) Christmas in December. Why, why, why? I go to the library every Monday and come away with shopping bags full of books to feed my madness!

I'm going to finish NOS4A2 this month -- which I started last October for sure.

I just finished Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews (I'm buddy reading the whole series) and totally loved it. I'm now obsessed with urban fantasy so most of the book I'm reading now are of that genre. I read multiple books at the same time but my maximum is 4 or 5 books, after that I just can't.

Anyway, I'm currently reading now Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, #4) by Ilona Andrews The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2) by Brandon Sanderson and Release by Patrick Ness .

*hands up *
another multi reader here

I am like Chava. I have one on audio, one on my kindle and one paperback/hardcover. Although at the moment the latter is only textbooks.
If you ever look at my "currently reading" you will see 2-3 books that are quite different as I have to make sure I have very different types of books when I am reading concurrently so that I don't get confused ;)

At the moment I have:
The Secret Science of Magic by Melissa Keil for my TBR Tackler challenge. I loved one of her other books so I'm hopeful for another great YA
and
The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter (The Riyria Chronicles, #4) by Michael J. Sullivan
which is book 4 in a prequel to an awesome series by one of my favourite Fantasy writers, And a fantastic audio

I find he is a high fantasy reader who is actually easy to read. It's just that his books are so long, I don't get to them as often as I should!

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Multireader here too!! Have 8 on my current shelf but only 5 are really truly active. The other 3 I pick up and read slowly from time to time. I'll eventually finish it.

I'm thrilled to find so many multiple book readers on our team! A lot of times most people act like I'm a freak of nature...

A former co-worker mentioned she thought I had selective adult ADD. Ha!

I'm on a few days vacation and am starting a new horror and/or Halloween book every day. Why? Because I can!!

Question of the day

I think mine is The Notebook. It is one of those rare occasions where I thought the movie was better than the book. And well... then there is Ryan Gosling...

Pride and Prejuice. Period. I don't think I should explain why I need a Mr. Darcy in my life.

message 145: by Tina ❣ (new)

Tina ❣ (nutrinut) | 2000 comments I don't think I have a favourite. I wasn't happy 100% with Dumbledore in the HP movies from the 3rd book/movie.

Pride and Prejudice was challenging for me to like. I never really engaged with the characters and plot. I think I like the the screen adaptions more but it's definitely not one of my favourites.

I think Atonement was done really well. Has anyone watched and read it?

I've just finished watching Orange is the New Black and I'm wanting to read it.

I don’t mind the HP movies, but the books are much better.
I *love* the BBC adaptation of pride and prejudice as the TV series with Colin Firth 😎

Atonement is interesting.:. I did enjoy the movie but I’ve never picked up the book

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments I’ve read and watched Atonement. Read the book first, it is beautifully written.. I remember being shocked how it all played out. Enjoyed the movie as well, James McAvoy was good in the lead male role.

Suzanne | 5417 comments I keep going to Mary Poppins. I read the book as a kid - it was ok but wasn't one of my favorites. But the movie was magical :)

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Someone said Ryan Gosling *cue heart eyes*

It was Gone Girl for me. Not a favorite but at least I finished watching the movie. I had difficulty finishing the book. .

There's a scene in Catching Fire that I really love. The part where they're walking with Peeta leading the way and suddenly there's a *i forgot what it's called* but suddenly he was on the floor. Katniss panicked while Peeta was being revived. And then my favorite part! When he came to, the expression of everybody was priceless. It was like "aha, she does love him afterall, she just doesn't know it yet"

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments I love The Notebook movie. ❤️❤️ love that scene in the pouring rain. “It’s not over... it’s never going to be over. “Swoon!
