In Love With Alien Santa Claus by Zara Zenia either -

34.Read a book with an Christmas ornament on the cover of a book ( 20 points) - There's a Christmas Tree with ornaments including the Star at the top or

1. Make a door by reading a book of 201 pages or less (10 points) 176 pages.

So many purple aliens, pornographic dinosaurs, plotless band romances and reverse haram, which does even have the decency of using the proper word, polyandry. The book I am reading now fills lots of challenges but so far is starting with the main character drugging and raping her ex-husband.

Tina ❣ (nutrinut) | 2000 comments Omg Lexi. What a way to start a book haha
Hopefully it's not too awful

Lisa, I went through maybe a 3-year-long period where I read ONLY romance novels! I made cloth book covers for them to use when I took them out of the house because the covers embarrassed me!! Now I don't care. Let people see and think I'm weird. A few months ago I found myself trying to explain the premise of the cozy mystery to a Vietnamese nail tech in a salon! She wanted to know why I was laughing at a book that had murder in the title. Her reading tastes run towards history, biography and self help. So you just never know.... 😆

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments Good for you, Lauri. One of the good things about getting older for me is being comfortable about just being yourself.

Finished for MPG Presents -word as genre A Night of No Return (The Private Lives of Public Playboys #1) by Sarah Morgan
Letters: S T N
On spreadsheet.

Lexi | 4247 comments I take full credit for messing with the spreadsheet if something is wrong but the totals on the bottom were still set for reindeer and I added a column for the mini challenge so it wasn't in the S column.

No worries. Thanks Lexi.
I've had a crazy busy weekend, compounded by it being the first of the month which means lots of things need to happen in mod world here.
Hopefully I'll get on top of everything tomorrow!

Suzanne | 5417 comments I just wanted to mention that if anyone wants one of my tasks because it fits a book you're reading, please speak up. If I haven't started that one already, I'd be happy to switch you and read something for another task!

Death of a Dapper Snowman (Stormy Day Mystery Book 1) by Angela Pepper for PRST and the top hat on cover

Suzanne | 5417 comments My current book just had a birth! Right now it is slated for "character has one of the top 50 dog names in Australia" - but that seems like an easier task, since names like Jack, etc. are on there. Should I move it to birth instead?

That may be a good idea. I think you're right that the names may be easier to find

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I have to read The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom for another challenge and it seemed like a book that might be tagged religious, so I checked and yes it is. 85 users

yes there is. 11. Grab your togs and go for a swim. Read a book with a body of water on the cover (e.g. pool, lake, ocean etc.) (40 points)

Chava | 1522 comments are we still reading for PRESENTS as well? Do we double dip as read for both the mini-challenge and the main challenge with 1 book?

Great!

Yes that’s right chava. We just can’t use them for the mini challenge and the word bonus’s (e.g word as mpg) but we can ONLY use books for the mini challenge that also fit the spell it out

No worries. Just wanted to give you as many options as possible. I finished the religious book and added it to the spreadsheet. I'm still chipping away at my non-fiction book for green on cover, but I need another to read in tandem. Does this look like it would work for black boots? On the paperback the riding boots are a lot more obvious, but they are hard to see on GR. Full Cry ("Sister" Jane, #3) by Rita Mae Brown

Mini challenge update

Here are the open tasks. Although I do have the BOM against "8. Read a book where Hanukkah is celebrated" ; at the moment it has only been a reference and no celebration. So that one may need to be swapped out for #37. I'll try and finish the book today to see if I'm wrong

Open Tasks

1. Make a door by reading a book of 201 pages or less (10 points)
9. Host an end of year BBQ with your mates. Read a book with a BBQ, or BBQ food on the cover (10 points)
13. Read a book where the characters get on a plane (10 points)
17. Read a book with a dog on the cover (10 points)
18. Read a book where the character has a dog who was a stray/came from a shelter (20 points)
19. Read a book where a main character has a name that is in the top 20 dog names in Australia as per this website. No alterations to spelling. (40 points)
27.Read a book with a belt on the cover ( 40 points)
37.Read a book with snow on the cover ( 10 points)

I think that works as there are lots of boots there and I can see atleast a few I would say are black

message 987: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Okay, I'm going to read that one next. I also found books for snow, belt, stray, dog on cover and I'm still looking for BBQ. :) But I will read one at a time as needed.

I consider that Hanukkah is celebrated in "What the Hell Have You Done" if you haven't got there yet.

Suzanne | 5417 comments I felt like it was too - it wasn't the whole 8 day celebration, but it was a celebration! And made me want Latkes. And...I have never had apple pie with cheese. Is it really as good as the story said?

I'm in NYC for a conference and passed a group of people celebrating outside this evening and it made me want latkes. In my experience, no on the cheese thing but some people like it.

Suzanne | 5417 comments I should finish my audio of Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos (only shoes and boots on cover) today or tomorrow morning. Audio books seem to be kind of the go-to thing at the moment with work (although I'm on track to finish the others I've claimed). Anyway, I did find The Grilling Season (A Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery, #7) by Diane Mott Davidson that I can do on audio if nobody has found a bbq one they want to do yet. I'm ok not claiming any more books too - I don't want to be a task hog!

message 997: by M (last edited Dec 04, 2018 05:14PM) (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments I finished An Aria of Omens (Wisteria Tearoom Mysteries, #3) by Patrice Greenwood for Read a book with gloves on the cover. Going to finish off the next one on my list.

Also, has anyone claimed #17. Read a book with a dog on the cover? If not, I have one that will work for it.
