It starts Dec 1, though?
Hey M. We haven’t started planning UNO for next year yet, but it is about now Annika and Eldarwen start stoking those fires 😂
It is with the other group I moderate and runs for three months. Usually starts in January or February

Thank you, I will keep my eye you for sign ups.
Ooh, the Summer Challenge looks tempting BUT I'm going to resist and recharge the batteries for next year... and be fresh for UNO 19. The last week of Wheelathon (sob.) is up, we can choose from three words, red, green or presents. Lovely Mods are full of the Christmas spirit.. Oops, I mean that they are being generous not that they're over imbibing hee hee.

I'm going to get to read very few books next week as finals are starting, so I'll let others decide.
None of the other teams have RED, GREEN or PRESENTS this week so I did a quick genre check. I thought presents would be easiest, but nope. Presents and present are both near impossible to find (except for Harlequin romances for some reason). Red is also difficult, I found one YA and one Isaac Asimov novel that work. Green has lots of environmental book options and also the author Jane Green works for quite a few. Just my two cents on our decision. Please note, I didn't check every book marked for genre, but I skipped around the pages and checked the ones with fewest ratings to see what worked.

Thanks Allison Ann!
Thanks Allison Ann!
So our options for our last week word are
RED
GREEN
PRESENTS
As Allison Ann found, it seems the best option for genre is GREEN.
If anyone wants to have a look, the links are:
Any preferences for the word?
https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/RED
The trick is finding it on the first page of the shelves.
And no matter which way we go, we don't have any "toughest letters" so I guess it depends on what everyone would prefer to read for the bonus tasks. If you can please shout out your preference over the next 12 hours, otherwise Suzanne and I will need to choose :)

I don't mind which but can do PRESENTS as genre for
and
for presents on the cover. Also I think words with more letters are easier.

Ooh love a mini challenge!12. Read a book with a green or gold item or writing on the cover which is set in summer (50 points). I've got this one - does the letters in the title count as Gold, it's set in Australia in December - our Summer.
I finished two books:
by Graeme Simsion 25/11/18Letters: R and D
and I finished
by Mackenzi Lee BUT I am hoping that someone who has read it can tell me if reindeer in somewhere in the book. I don't think there is ):

Wow Lisa - good find with the Presents genre! I'd vote for that word (because of the wider variety of letters) if we have a genre-working book. But I'm happy to go with anything.
I am good Presents, I can dig up more books that way. The bonus tasks look really fun. I know we can do "build an elf a home" no problem.

Thanks Tina :)
Are there any character names that work with Reindeer in "The Lady's Guide" book? I didn't see any in the description of the book, so I'm not sure where we can place it. But don't worry about reindeer in text, one of the books Karen read has that.
I was looking at the bonus challenges and discovered this one if anyone else is interested. The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein fits for #16, #17, #20.
I am reading
(so many spiders) and it fits for 4. Lastly we need a roof. Read a book of 501 pages or more with green writing or a green item on the cover (50 points) Green item = planet. I'll work on others later. Should we add to our spreadsheet so we don't overlap?

Callum Doyle is a charecter in The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy
If Lisa has a PRESENTS genre then I definitely vote for that one. Nice to have a few new letters to read for, even if none of them are the tough letters.
The mini-challenge looks like fun. It seems like books have to be read during the week though, they can't be started early. Is that true captains?
Quick question about the mini challenge. We don't have to complete each bracket do we to get the points, just individual tasks?
Yay... for PRESENTS. I'll download the two books for MPG and cover item. That means I can't use these two in the mini challenge though.
We just need presents in the text and word in title/series now - hopefully with Christmas reading that should be easier.
If anyone wants to read/reread
I know the first line is "Christmas won't be Christmas without any presents." I visited Louisa May Alcott's house in October and saw where she wrote it. Bucket list stuff!
The book of the month - My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories - has the word presents in it 14 times. p. 24 - "We've already had the presents."
Presents in the title seems hard as all the ones I have found have mostly been children's, comics or too short. I did find this series Mystery Writers of America Presents Vengeance but do not have access to them easily.

No, we can just complete individual tasks.
We have also had this clarified in the captains group that mini challenge books also need to count for the spell-it-out. So that's another reason by PRESENTS is a good idea - a few more options for letters!!
=====
Books used for this mini challenge are not separate books for what you are claiming for your wheelathon spell-it-out. (I.e. they need to count for a spell-it-out letter along with a task). They DO need to be different to what you are claiming for your weekly bonuses (for e.g. word as MPG)

Thanks Lexi. I'll go searching.
We can also use "present" as it was decided for another team last round that if the word is a plural, you can also use it where it is singular

I'm finding a lot of like : so and so presents.....but I have the feeling we need to have the word in the title as a noun and not a verb?I did find The Last Present by Wendy Mass, which has over 63000 words on ARbookfind - so I think that one would work? (And I can get it at my library if we want to go with it).
But I have to leave for class - sigh. So I can't check numbers/rules. I'll do that in a few hours when i get home.
The mini challenge tab is now on our main spreadsheet (not the tracking one). So if you have tasks you want to read for, please shout it out here and we can add you to that task number on that tab
Captains, 12. Read a book with a green or gold item or writing on the cover which is set in summer
Does the lettering in the title pass for Gold? If so, I can do this one.
Added two books to the spreadsheet. Sorry I haven't finished my REINDEER in title book yet, but I will definitely be done by tomorrow night.
Why are Christmas books always so short? Less than 150 pages almost always. And my usual question, after I've been looking at free kindle books, what in the world is a "Forever Baby"? Are the babies in romance novels generally only temporary? It's just so very very odd.
Lol yeah thats like giving a puppy a "forever home".....I kind of thought that would be assumed with a baby.
Suzanne wrote: "I'll plan on doing the Present in title task for next week."
Fabbo. Thanks Suzanne!
Fabbo. Thanks Suzanne!
For the Christmas mini challenge I can do #20 - RAB with a dog as a main character. Christmas with Tucker
