This is a book I have read several times and is one of my all time favorites. To me its what I think of when I think of an example of the fantasy genre. Mostly because it's heavy in sword fights, magic, and large adventures.
Most of the criticism I think comes from the fact that it's a young adult book written by Paolini when he was pretty young and it shows in some ways.
I don't really read it looking for a sophisticated story or anything like that which is probably the reason that I'm such a big fan. I just read it because it has a fun story and satisfying fight scenes.

I read the only series when I was a teenager and loved it. It's a bit difficult to think what I would change about it not having read it for so long, but I think it would just be the size of the books, or maybe even the romantic relationship in it (I was never a fan of how that was done). Other than that, I don't recommend the movie! It actually changed such important parts from the book, that it was virtually impossible to follow up with further movies... SO disappointing.
