She just pulled out the dress and put it on! How cool would it be to be able to put on clothes and makeup that turn you into your best you? I would be willing to sacrifice some sadness and a little blood for such a thing. I wonder if it becomes addictive? You know she'll want to wear it when she goes to visit Lavare. Also the magic of changing the cards was cool! Her brother still sucks!

I know this is dumb, but I didn't know this was a Cinderella retelling! I should have, the whole magic dress and glittering ball thing, but I didn't connect it! This chapter we had the sun go down and her glamoire went away. I'm glad she lost the snuffbox because honestly, how did she intend on selling it? Everyone would know she stole it, even if she sold it while wearing the glamoire I think. But we met a new host of characters! That's exciting!"

I love the explanation that Versailles is so enchantingly beautiful is because it actually in enchanted. Also the idea that the glamour and magic is hiding ruin and rot is really provocative! I love the matter of factness of Chaon and Fourdiard's relationship! Gay french cavalry officer? Swoon!

Do you think he's a dark magician and is going to use her?

(view spoiler)[I'm really loving this world. Even though Camille and her family are living in poverty, I feel like we're gonna get some more magical and fantastical elements.

I hate Alain, and kinda don't like Sophie. Alain is an obvious hate, he's a mean drunk and an abusive asshole, whereas my hate for Sophie is different. I don't think we're supposed to hate Sophie, but she's a bit self-centred, and I don't think she understands how much Camille has to work to provide for the 3 of them. And all this kid wants is some pretty new shoes, and a rich husband. Get your head out the clouds girl! I'm happy she's gonna at least pull her own weight now.

Lazare is cute and I'm expecting some cuteness between him and Camille.
