There's a species in this world that are looked down on, where the males have these pouches for reproduction. The author goes into a lot of details about the textures of these pouches. One of these men get somehow roped into stealing a magic jewel. He manages to steal it, but almost gets caught so he hides it in his pouch and then gets an infection. I think there's some kind of wraithlike species as well? Also, at some point, I think he's held by a princess who tries to make him a sex slave?

I read this sometime in the past 5 years, but the book may have been from earlier. I remember it like a fever dream and would really like confirmation it exists.
