I read this book in 2015 and got it from my library.



This girl grows up in the south in a house full of sisters, one dying and haunting her memory. She meets the new guy at school, Bud, and they start a relationship, ending up pregnant. They move away so bud can get a job, but he cheats on her and gets the boss’s daughter pregnant. Bud is sent to Vietnam so this girl has to live on her own. She has a neighbor who helps her through her pregnancy. She finds a slave’s journal at her house, reads it throughout the book and feels connected to who she’s reading from. She meets another guy who she’s attracted to but he already has a fiancé, but she dies later. Bud loses a leg and kills himself. That’s all I remember:)
