This will be our discussion thread for The Apple Orchard by Susan Wiggs Parts 1-4. I thought I would go ahead and break it up into 3 sections since we are already one week into the month. This first section is 8 chapters long. In my edition it's 160 pages.

67 inches, 119 lbs? Maybe she’s in the hospital because she’s vastly underweight. So far I’m liking this story pretty well. I’m not liking Tess as a character very much though. She seems self absorbed. Hopefully her sister is more likable. We don’t know Magnus very well but he seems like a go getter. Hopefully he bounces back!
Oops I commented after chapter 4, not part 4. I’ll update again if I have any more thoughts! But again- Tess said something about how staring at Dominic made her IQ drop to double digit territory. Isn’t average 100? Which means half of people are always in double digit territory...?Tess is so arrogant and pretentious to me. Really not liking her!
Oh that is totally fine. You can make as many comments as you want within each section. It doesn't matter if you're finished with that section or not. I like to make comments while it's fresh on my mind or when I'm having a big emotional response to something.
I just finished the section and don’t have many additional thoughts. I don’t like Tess at all so the relationship between her and Dominic is just meh to me. I am interested in why she never knew her family before and what the connection between magnus and annaelise is all about. This book may get deep..So far 3 star at best for me.
Ps was anyone else weirded out by the funeral-esque event for Magnus? I almost had to go back and reread because I was sure I missed the part where they said he died— but he didn’t! Is that a thing? Do people do events like that while someone’s still living and has a chance of recovery?
Hi Chloe! Thanks so much for your detailed comments. I finally finished this first section on Oct 31st. So I'm way behind. Then my birthday was yesterday and I didnt manage to get on here to comment. I love how buddy reading brings up a variety of points. I'm listening on audio and I didnt notice any of the things that you commented about. Isn't that funny. I did think it was weird for Magnus's will to be brought into play when he is still alive. But I guess the author needed a device to bring the story along.
I do understand what you mean about Tess. I think we are supposed to see her as being hard around the edges and not a very warm person. That is a good contrast to Isabel who is sweet and down to earth. Even making her character a baker adds a warmth and nurturing aspect to her personality.
I'm making good progress on the second section, so I'll chat again soon.
I am enjoying the book so far.

I’m sorry I haven’t posted. Have a few books going plus arcs from netgalley that will be reviewed. I haven’t read the posts on this thread yet but wanted to come on and post that I’m up to chapter 5. It took me awhile to get into the book I think I’m just starting to. Not sure what I think so far. The author’s books or least the ones I’ve read I’ve enjoyed. Haven’t kept up with them.
I’m finding the chapters long. And I’m one who likes to stop at end of chapters. I don’t do audios.
Finally pushed to the break this morning. I think I'm finally getting into the story. usually I get into author's books fast but this one is taking me longer. I think it took me to chapter 5 to connect. I don't know what i'm thinking of Tess yet. Dominic I like and his kids are sweet. Isabel I'm not sure of yet. That was strange about the get together of everyone. I've heard of things like that in the past. I thought it was strange about the will but maybe someone had to check to see who was going to make decisions and such. and it just went from there. To me at this point Isabele and Tess are complete opposites.
I've had this book which I think I got used at a library sale long ago. so I'm glad I'm trying to push my way when I can though it with the group. I know I'm behind and at this point I'm still overbooked with other books library and arcs that have to be read for review. I was on top for awhile then somehow I requested a few arcs that are already live so now I'm trying to get though those plus the ones for the month I'm trying to keep up with from the one publisher.
I'm going to try and read a chapter or 2 each day at least if possible.
