UN: in need of potency enhancers or just a party?

Thoroughly corrupt in my honest opinion. The last thing a world needs is a global government - the UN is an attempt at a prototype of that.
The UN has probably set a world record for the most money spent achieving the least. My guess is a world government has no show because countries like the US, Russia and China are never going to permit anything to enforce such a government's laws in its territory. So with no ability to enforce law, it is toothless. Of course the US or any other big power could hardly sit back and let tin-pot dictators pass laws to take whatever they want from the rich. The UN is an idea that sounds good in an idealistic world, but can't possibly work in reality.
Nik, running off your idea, maybe we should lock all the leaders in and not let them out for the duration of the General Assembly. :D
Unfortunately, it doesn't last long enough to feel the difference. Maybe if we let/force them assemble for a year or two, we could really know if we miss something whilst the leaders are 'busy'. They, on their part, would probably have a first class catering and entertainment and won't miss messing with our lives -:) Can be a win-win
You know, instead of going to war from now on, we should make the leaders have it out in a cage match...
-:) That would be a cool idea, saving lots of casualties, however if we evaluate chances: Donald vs ayatollah gives good chances to the former, however vs a much younger Kim - we can't be sure, and with Vladimir boasting belts in judo Russia might have a few gains. Canada's young premier could be a super champ even. Now, with Theresa vs Angela betting odds may come close again -:)

Intended to serve a playground to provide for solution of global problems, in fact it's become pretty toothless, effectively vetoed when coming to anything controversial with opposing interests. The superpowers still promote their interests, often neglecting or circumventing the UN.
On the other hand, it's probably a fun place to hang out and make a speech to be magnified by world's media.
Do you follow the annual general assembly? How do you like it? Does UN need a renovation or is it cool as it is?
