Eddie Feathers relationship with Ingoldby family

My book club read Old Filth and we did not agree on why the Ingolby family cut off Eddie totally from their family. Pats only statement was about "family stuff". Was it because they were afraid of Eddies and Pats relationship? Or what am I missing? I'd appreciate any discussion on this.

Does Pat completely disappear from the story or did I miss something?

That was a difficult moment in the book. I don't know why they did it but it made some kind of sense to me. I wonder if when families face difficulties they kind of close ranks a bit and then Old Filth was an outsider. And/or did the author put this in to represent another loss for OF, someone else who left him or another reason not to belong. Read the next book "The man in the wooden hat" which is from Betty's perspective and there is a bit more about the Ingoldby's. I loved this book.

I read two books. I guess the loss of their sons may have attributed to it. And Isobel is back... Also in his life. What a mysterious story of old brittish families. Just adoring her writings... How cleverly she writes into ending the crime of heart....
