CJ Hi
Looking for a children's book I remember reading in the mid 80s. A family either find or are given a cute bunny but the oldest daughter (possibly pre-teen) is suspicious of it. It has an evil 'glint' in it's eye. The daughter 'catches' it outside of it's cage at night and can't work out how it keeps getting out. The rest of the family start to feel tired all the time. Can't remember if she finds it trying to drink the blood of younger brother /sister on one of it's nightly jaunts - which is why she suspects it is a vampire bunny (my brain may have just made this up and not remembering correctly). Rest of the family are not suspicious of cute evil bunny and tell the daughter she is imagining things / making it up.

Can't remember how it ends - maybe bunny is released or sent to a new home.

It was definitely NOT Bunnicula.

Also, think it was paperback - don't think it was illustrated.

Part of a series?
Time period/location story takes place?

Hi Tab
I think the book came from Australia (it was where we got most of our books from since it was the closest mainland).
As far as I know it was standalone.
The time period was modern day (so modern day 80s).

I haven't read Bunnicula, but from the synopsis it doesn't sound like it. It was definitely the daughter not any other pets that discovered the bunny was a vampire and there wasn't any 'vampire vegetables'. The bunny was definitely feeding off the human family.

Rainbowheart | 28527 comments Are you sure you haven't gotten two books mixed together?

I can't find any other titles about a vampire bunny than the ones in the Bunnicula series.

Thank you. Alas, that is not it. I started looking through all the scholastic book catalogues for the early 80s, to see if I could find it in there, because that was how we would get new books at the school.

It is possible I am mixing up books. It was so long ago that I can't be sure. But I remember there being a bit in the book where the main character (the girl) was looking at the vampire bunny's teeth. It definitely wasn't Bunnicula - but that is only based on the synopsis on GR. I'll try to find a sample or something to confirm.
