I had forgotten how sad Charlie's life/family is beforehand. It's written so lightheartedly but he has to slow himself down because his body is literally starved.

On a lighter note, my kid is loving this and is giving the Gene Wilder movie a try (he did not care for the Johnny Depp one).

The Johnny Depp movie is a little creepy. I know that I prefer the Gene Wilder movie. I think the Johnny Depp movie takes away from the story with the creepy telling of it.
