ciana (lost-in-austen) | 2 comments I read this I’m 2008 but it was most likely published in the 90s or earlier.
I can only remember a few scenes.
The first scene I remember is I the beginning of the book where the main character, the white girl, first sees the black girl and it’s around thanksgiving time so they are wearing old pilgrim dresses. The black girl is sitting in a tree but she jumps down to talk to the white girl and the white girl describes the other girls dress as extremely ancient almost as if it’s actually from the 1600s.
Another scene I remember is after the girls are friends for a while, they cut they’re fingers and bleed on a key which one of them keeps. Then they each make a giant snowball to take home with them. The white girl describes how wet her thin gloves were before she puts her snowball in the freezer at home.

That’s all the major scenes I can remember. A few other details include the white girl believing she saw the black girl levitate a few times, the black girl gave the white girl a small watermelon in January, and the cover of the book I had was the white girl and the black girl standing together over a fire and the black girl looked like she was praying.

Sorry if this isn’t very detailed, I read it in 3rd grade. I would appreciate any help anyone could offer and I will try to remember more!
