He hugged her tighter "She just wanted to protect you I guess."

"I'm sorry if I scared you." She said quietly, hugging him around the waist.
"Why are you sorry?" She looked at him
"For all of this, for you mom being.." he swallowed and shook his head.
"You didn't do it." She said, touching his arm.
She sighed and rested her head on his shoulder.
He held her wondering how a person could do this to her.
"Being a stressful mess. This must be hard for you to see." She said softly
"I understand how you must feel." he said kissing her head.
"I feel empty." She said ruefully.
"Just by being here you're helping." She looked over at him. "If I was alone, I'd be dead."
"Oh I don't know about that" he said giving her a squeeze "you are pretty tough"
"Tough? Did you just see me not ten minutes ago crying like a child?" She scoffed.
"It was about your mother " he countered.
"Still.." She sighed. "I just want this all to end. We seem to can't settle down."
"We will someday, we just need to get things worked out."
She sighed and kissed his cheek, letting her lips linger on his skin.
He smiled "Maybe we should go to New Orleans, I have heard people there know things."
"Do you know what else is there?" She said openly,
"No, I have just heard things about black arts there."
"Like voodooism and witches." She nodded.
"Yes" he said nodding his head "There must be some truth to it"
"Well if people like me exist, then so do witches."
She sighed and hopped off the wagon.
"Think of what? Going there?" She asked, holding her hand out to him.
"Sure. So scratch the Europe idea?" She intertwined their fingers.
"We can sail from there" he replied.
"So what would we be going there for? Europe, I mean."
"Okay. There is only one thing that will get me through this trip." She sighed
She pursed her lips and left the barn.
She walked up the front steps of her house and sat on the porch swing.
