"I didn't mean it" he said quickly "I just meant I have only heard you scream that one night. Do you scream that way every night?"

"Most nights. Not every." She said softly. Did he really mean it? She thought.
"That must be awful" he said sadly his face slowly returning to its original color.
"And it is always ghosts?" he asked standing.
"Pardon?" She looked up him, her brows furrowed.
"The screams, they are always because of ghosts?" he asked walking toward her.
Lucy gave him a weird look. "Yes, I assume so. Why?"
"Just asking, Have you ever seen someone you knew?" he asked thinking of his brother who had died a year ago.
"I don't quite remember. I've seen many people." She then looked him in the eyes. "You want to know if I saw your brother." She said.
He shrugged and turned red."I guess" he said quietly "I know its not fair to ask"
Lucy placed a hand on his shoulder. "Yes. I did see him." She whispered.
His eyes searched hers but he only nodded not daring to ask more.
Lucy noticed his hesitation. "You can ask me." She said.
He looked away "I don't think I should" he replied tears in his eyes.
Lucy turned his head to face her. "He talked to me." She pressed.
He pursed his lips wanting to hear what his brothers ghost had said. His lip trembled but he didn't ask.
She stepped closer to him, placing both hands on his shoulders. "He said he was sorry."
He looked at her "For what? Did he say?" he shook his head "Never mind"
"He was just sorry for not saying goodbye." She whispered.
"Did he scare you" he asked concerned for her all of a sudden.
She shook her head, dropping her arms. "No. I thought I was just dreaming."
He nodded satisfied "Do they all talk to you?"
"No. Some just look at me. Like the lady in the box. She showed me that there was a key in the pocket of this dress." She said.
"Oh" he said getting more curious about her ability.
"She wore this exact dress once." Lucy said, looking down at herself and making a face.
He pulled back from her "It looks good on you" he said absentmindedly his mind still on the things she had just told him.
Lucy blushed and smoothed down the skirts. "Thank you."
"You are welcome" he replied "Will you tell me the next time?" he asked.
"The next time you see a ghost" he replied
Lucy sighed with relief. "Yes. I promise I will."
"Good" he nodded still standing so close to her.
She slowly looked up at him. She could feel his breath on her face.
He ran his fingers through his hair. Night was settling in and he just wanted to relax and not worry about what was going on.
"Are you okay?" She asked, whispering.
"I think so" he replied "Just really tired I guess" he said looking into her eyes.
"You should sleep then." She suggested, looking up into his eyes.
He nodded "What about you?" he asked
"I can sleep later." She muttered, not going to say why she didn't want to sleep.
Again he nodded "Okay promise to wake me up if you hear or see anything" he replied.
"Yeah." She nodded slowly but not moving away.
Jeff headed up the stairs to take advantage of the bed there.
She looks over and watched him go, hugging herself.
Jeff lay in the bed staring up at the ceiling. He had been so lose to her and now he knew she was more than he ever thought she was, and it drew him closer to wanting her not pushing him away at all. Soon he drifted off to sleep dreaming of Lucy.
Lucy sat back on the rocking chair, lifting her skirts to look at the cut. She didn't bother putting stockings on since they were ripped. She frowned when she noticed the rim of her cut was slightly purple.
Jeff called out her name in his sleep his tone urgent.
Lucy snapped her head up when she heard her name. She listened intently in case she heard wrong.
Lucy made her way upstairs when she heard her name being called again, walking into the bedroom slowly.
