Do you have a Kindle Unlimited membership? If so, do you only read from the program, or do you purchase books outside of the KU program?

i do both. i wish you weren't limited on the number of books you can get with the KU. which, doesn't make sense to me, because it's ... hello... KU.

message 3: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Hutchinson (bellagato) | 46 comments I've got a 30 day free trial of it. So far, I'm loving it. I read a LOT. Books from the local library, from kindle (I even buy them instead of just searching for KU free ones), and sometimes I find some at thrift shops that I buy. I think 9.99/month or whatever KU is is worth it

message 4: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Hutchinson (bellagato) | 46 comments wait, Sassy, it's limited? 😱😭

message 5: by Greyling54 (new)

Greyling54 I understand some authors have trouble with KU because of what they earn through the program. There sound like are definitely some kinks in the system as far as them being paid for their work. That's the reason I stay away from it.

message 6: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (staceyissassy) I don't have or use KU but I do have the Romance Package on Audible. Originally, it was because Australia didn't offer KU, then it was because I didn't have time to go exploring. Now, I don't think it's advertised as much, so, I'm not thinking about it or tempted to get it.

Sunseeker☀️ (sunseeker) I have KU and I purchase a lot of books outside of that. Because I was spending a ridiculous amount of money, I have now signed up at my local library to see if I can access books that way as well.

message 8: by SassyFraz (new)

SassyFraz (khulett) Sarah wrote: "wait, Sassy, it's limited? 😱😭"

yes. you are only allowed so many books at one time. i ended up making a ku bookshelf, because there are quite a bit of ku that i want to read and dont want to forget... or space. lol. either way - i would say it's worth it. i have found some real gems on ku.

SimplyƝì₭ (simplynik) Vi wrote: "Do you have a Kindle Unlimited membership? If so, do you only read from the program, or do you purchase books outside of the KU program?"

Reading and buying books to me is like having an art collection. When an author shares their stories I make the investment in them, so I can get more stories back. I am not a KU expert, but it is my understanding that the author's compensation is considerably less. I don't use KU. I did one month trail and it was ok. But a lot of the author's I read aren't on that service. But I am also a person that will buy a book when I have received an ARC for the same reason. We need to support authors.

message 10: by Liz (new)

Liz | 1 comments I have Kindle Unlimited but I also purchase books as well. Typically I purchase books from my favorite authors and use kindle unlimited to fill the time while I wait for my preorders to become available.

Well said. And I have also bought books even though I have ARCs.

message 12: by Becca (new)

Becca Stanfield Vernon | 14 comments I have a KU membership but also buy other books not part of KU. I love it. I’m certain it saves me $, but how much I don’t know never checked. I am also more tempted to try a new to me author using KU bc if I don’t like the book then I’m not out the cost.

message 13: by Isa (new)

Isa (misstate) | 4 comments I do both. I can honestly say that I purchase more books then use my KU membership

✰♊ Angie ♊✰ I use KU on the regular. Love it, love it, love it. If a book I want to read isn't available on KU, the first place I check for it is my local library (because support your local library)... Either in physical form or ebook. If I can't find it there and I really want to read it, I'll purchase the ebook on Kindle. I rarely purchase physical books anymore unless it's something I will forever cherish and re-read multiple times. I'm a minimalist book nerd. 🤓📚

message 15: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 22 comments I have KU and I F’love it! I still buy my books by authors who are not on KU. But most of my reading is on KU. I also have the romance package on Audible.

message 16: by Amberb03 (new)

Amberb03 | 41 comments I like Unlimited because I read A LOT so I use that in between authors that don’t use it. But I am noticing more and more authors using it. See you thinking of using it Vi?

message 17: by Aղցela W. (new)

Aղցela W. I have KU and I use it a lot I also purchase a lot of books

message 18: by Rochelle (last edited Sep 21, 2018 09:03AM) (new)

Rochelle | 90 comments I had the free trial of Kindle Unlimited before and I liked it when I had it. I just don't read many books online so it wasn't feasible for me to keep it. I felt that I wasn't getting my money out of it. Besides, I would rather just feel the pages of a book and if they are new, I love the way they smell. So, I didn't renew the membership but I do the have Audible Romance Package which I like a lot for when I am at work so I can listen to books.

So between my library and the romance package I get the books I want from my favorite authors.

message 19: by Sherry (new)

Sherry | 26 comments I have a KU subscription and the Romance audio package. I listen to books from romance package, KU titles on audio and the library. As far as reading, I do purchase books but not as many as I would like. I read 15 books or so a month, can't afford to buy them all.

message 20: by Angela (new)

Angela I'm pretty much an equal opportunity book whore.
I've been on KU for a while now and I love it. I've reconnected with my love of romance and found some great authors from it. I'll also buy outside of KU since some of my favorite authors only put their books in KU for a limited time or don't put all their books in KU, and there are some still that I like who don't use KU at all.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Hutchinson (bellagato) | 46 comments Also, I tend to get a little OCD... Once I start a series I pretty much HAVE to finish it. With KU, I end up reading a book and if I enjoyed it, I'll definitely look for that authors' other books and purchase them.

message 22: by Jhennifer (new)

Jhennifer | 4 comments I have KU and love it because I can take more risks on books I may not have purchased otherwise. If those books turn out really awesome I usually buy them to reread 😁, if not I can return them no problem! BUT I do still purchase outside of KU I’m just more particular in those reads😉

message 23: by sally (new)

sally martinez (sallym8070) | 11 comments i dont use KU i rather buy them and support all of my favorite authors

message 24: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 40 comments I do not have it but may end up trying it. Most of the authors I read haven't been on it past but some are starting too. There is also the fact that I am super picky when picking a new book to read

message 25: by Tara Schantz (new)

Tara Schantz (ilovemydogs) | 35 comments I do both also. A lot of my favorite authors are not available through KU, and I am a collector of my favorites so I would purchase those regardless. I find that with KU I am able to venture out of my comfort zone (favorites) and try new authors and genres I would normally shy away from if I have to purchase them for fear of wasting money on a disappointment. I have actually found a few author's that have become my "go to"(cozies) when I want to do some lighter reading and break from the more intense stories I typically read. So I guess you you could say it's a great way to discover new authors without the risk of losing anything except the time it takes to read.

message 26: by SimplyƝì₭ (new)

SimplyƝì₭ (simplynik) sally wrote: "i dont use KU i rather buy them and support all of my favorite authors"

Well stated Tara. Doctors get to pursue their passions so should authors.

message 27: by Faith (new)

Faith Starr | 2 comments Love KU! My hubby and I read a lot so it’s great for us. Now if he’s only give me more slots! He takes a ton and leaves me few 😀

message 28: by Melou53 (new)

Melou53 | 18 comments I have KU and the romance package for audible. I love it because I get books from some of my favorite authors and have definitely found a lot of new ones I might not have taken a chance on. And a lot of my favs do the romance package, so I get the best of both worlds. I even purchase some I have read on KU because I want them in my digital library.

message 29: by CMeagan (new)

CMeagan (cmeaganread) | 4 comments It has its pros and cons. I typically buy the books of authors I'm familiar with because I love their styles and want to keep their books. I recently got KU and through it I've discovered several amazing authors I wouldn't have known of otherwise. I read one through KU recently then purchased the rest of the series since I enjoyed it so much.

message 30: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Parrish (leighparrish) | 1 comments I absolutely LOVE using KU because I’ve found Authors I wouldn’t have taken a risk on without it! I still purchase some ebooks but I read 4 to 5 books a week so KU has really helped me out with my addiction lol

message 31: by Freda (new)

Freda | 1 comments I think it provides the author with a massive audience and free marketing if the readers leave reviews. It also gives recognition to new authors and it gives the reader a safety net to try different genres and different authors. I have ended up buying books from authors i really like that i wouldn't have found otherwise.

message 32: by Maxine (new)

Maxine | 3 comments An author friend told me she put her books on KU willingly and she wants her readers to use it and I should never feel guilty about it.

Jane super booklover📚 (jannekx1f4da) | 17 comments I live in Holland and Amazon doesnt offer ku here. I would use it but would buy Brooks also.

message 34: by Susan (new)

Susan I don't have K U. I did the trial also, but did not subscribe. I felt pressured too LOL like I HAD to read it right then and no time to do it. I love buying so I have thm with me always. I have so many Auto buys that my KU fee just goes dierectly to authors 😃

message 35: by Susan (new)

Susan Sorry, not great thumb texter

message 36: by Annie (new)

Annie | 2 comments KU! read them and release them.

message 37: by Bruingal (new)

Bruingal | 63 comments I have KU and audible romance package I'm always maxed out on KU because I'm a hoarder and will have books for years if I ever get to them because I don't want to miss out on the book and I'll forget about it. Sometimes I make it a point to read one of my KU books just so I'll have space to get a new book. I have over 200 books that I haven't even read and continue to add more. I know I have a problem.

♡ Jeri's Book Attic ♡ Jeri the Romance Bibiliophile ♡ (jeritaliaryan) | 3 comments Vi wrote: "Do you have a Kindle Unlimited membership? If so, do you only read from the program, or do you purchase books outside of the KU program?"

Yes I have KU - simply to control the the money flow a little - Aside from books I get as ARC's to read for the Blog I spend a lot of money on books and KU at least helps a little ... Sometimes I read as much as one or two books in one day. Aside from it being great to get the books from authors I love - it is also a good way do safely find new authors because you do not feel like you lost extra money in case a book was not what you expected. I believe all new authors should use it ...

I am honestly that kind of reader the Penelope wrote about in Stepbrother Dearest - the one that takes the book to parties to hide in the restroom and read ...

message 39: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 27 comments Hello I'm new to the group and yes I have and love KU. It has helped me find so many wonderful authors, and many I didn't like. Once I find an author and love their book I usually purchase that book at some point and then that author becomes one I will purchase even if their books are on KU.

message 40: by Sue (new)

Sue (suebee62400) | 1 comments I do have a KU membership, but also buy books. Usually the ones I buy are from authors that I love and follow that don't offer their books on KU.

message 41: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer D. (jennylynnd) | 3 comments Vi wrote: "Do you have a Kindle Unlimited membership? If so, do you only read from the program, or do you purchase books outside of the KU program?"

I have a KU membership but also buy books...usually from authors I love. I tend to check out new authors via KU. I would say that I probably read more books on KU.

message 42: by Kay (new)

Kay Phillips (teacherreadsromance) | 16 comments In the summer time, I was buying a book a day-- don't tell my husband! Now I KU, and if I really want to buy, I'll treat myself.

I'm glad to experience new authors and genres through KU, because honestly, I might not have discovered half of my book list. And my public library's romance section isn't always as contemporary as I want it to be.

message 43: by Jessen Elizabeth (new)

Jessen Elizabeth (jessenliz) | 5 comments I’ve had KU for about a year and I honestly couldn’t do without it. I average about 20 books a month so KU is worth it and then some for people like me, but I don’t use it exclusively. I’ll still borrow books from overdrive and buy books based on how much I want to read them or if the price is right. I’ll even buy a book that I’ve read on KU if I love it! KU has been instrumental to introducing me to new authors.

message 44: by Amy (new)

Amy (bookluvin) | 41 comments I do not KU. I tried at one time but I could rarely get the books I really wanted through it...

message 45: by Monique (new)

Monique V | 32 comments I love it because everytime I am un a reading slump I go and pick a random book from KU and I usually get out of the slump like that

message 46: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Kerns | 18 comments i just got it. There's a special going on to get 3 months of KU for $0.99. I'm loving it, but still buying books not on KU. And the ones I've read so far from KU that I really like, I will buy to keep.

Wayward Readers Book Blog (wayward_readers) | 8 comments KU only unless its something I absolutely NEED. Authors get paid per page flipped, if I'm not mistaken. So if your downloading and just keeping them on your shelf, its not benefiting the author as much as reading them.

message 48: by JudyCa (new)

JudyCa | 8 comments I'm just jumping in here ;) I love my KU! probably 90% of the books I read are on KU...I don't often buy books unless there is something I really want! I don't know what I'd do without it ...

message 49: by CARLA (new)

CARLA | 2 comments I read almost exclusively KU books because I can't really afford to buy all the books I want to read. I also actively look for sales and freebies and utilize the library and Hoopla as well. I do like to hit up book stores for physical books, I prefer to own them than ebooks.

message 50: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Smith | 4 comments I mostly read books from KU but will buy a book if it is not on there if it is highly recommended and I like the sample.
