message 301: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracy_z) Hi, my name is Grace! I'm from Toronto, Canada. I'm trying to read more books this year -- my reading goal for 2020 is 40 books which is a pretty big goal for me. I typically read YA contemporary, literary fiction or non fiction but I'm really trying to branch out this year, particularly towards fantasy, sci-fi and historical fiction.

If anyone has any recommendations or wants to talk about books they're reading (I'm reading Ready Player One right now!), feel free to message me :)

Rithara~❤️The Astrophilia ❤️ (rithara) | 10 comments Hi! I am Rithara, from Sri Lanka.. I am younger than all of you, I suppose.. Consider me as 13.. Nice to join all of you! I love reading books.. Maybe I am a bookworm. Lol!

message 303: by Billy (new)

Billy Adesola | 3 comments Hi everyone! My name is Billy. I read mostly fantasy and sci-fi but I explore other genres from time to time. It's great to be here.

message 304: by Ruth Orme-Johnson (new)

Ruth Orme-Johnson Hi all, I’m from Chicago and I worked for a literary organization until recently and I’m looking for new fiction that’s fast-paced and from a diverse array of perspectives.

message 305: by Bob (new)

Bob Hi everyone. I'm Bob. I've lived in the Pittsburgh, PA area for almost 31 years. I'm 68 (soon to be 69) and am a retired, analytical chemist.

Books and libraries were my refuge to escape an unhappy childhood. My TBR (To Be Read) pile is ginormous (>300). My favorite genres are classics, mysteries, sci-fi, historical fiction, and some history. Horror used to be my favorite (a big Stephen King & Dean Koontz fan) but less so now.

I also love cycling. My past activities included backpacking, mountaineering, and ice climbing.

message 306: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 1 comments hi, I’m Hannah and I live in the US. I love reading, although it takes me a while to actually sit down and read a book. I’m a student and a theatre kid and am brand new to goodreads so I don’t know how this works lmao but I’ll figure it out (hopefully)

message 307: by Hem (new)

Hem (hem93) Hello! I had no idea about the existence of groups here on Goodreads and this one caught my attention as soon as i saw it! So, let me introduce myself:
My name is Hemilly, i'm 20 years old and live in Brazil. My favorite genres are definitely YA, Fantasy and currently i'm diving into Classics and trying out more genres. My favorite author currently is Carlos Ruiz Zafon and my last 5 star read was A little life by Hanya Yanaghara. I usually procrastinate a lot with my reads and that caused me to have a pretty bad reading slump for about 2 years. Right now i'm rereading Harry Potter, because i literally read all of my physical TBR and also cant go out to buy more. Anyways, nice to meet you all :)

Happy reading to everyone!

message 309: by Alkmini (new)

Alkmini Hello.
My name is Alkmini, I am from Greece and I love reading books.
I am 26 years old.

I really want to read more of the "classic writers", even though I am usually intimidated by their really big books.

message 314: by margot (new)

margot (margotwehrle) | 6 comments Hi, my name is Maggie, I'm 13, and I love books, obviously. I'm a fully blind braille reader, so I don't read incredibly fast, but the fact that I spend most of my classes reading instead of paying attention really helps with the speed problem. My favourite genres are fantasy, historical fiction, sci-fi, dystopian, and romance. Everything I read is normally YA, but I sometimes read NA as well. Besides reading, I love playing an attempting to write music, musicals, hanging out with family and friends, and writing. My favourite book changes frequently, but I would say right now it has to be the wrath and the dawn. I would love some book suggestions if anyone has them. :)

message 315: by margot (new)

margot (margotwehrle) | 6 comments girls with sharp sticks??? That sounds like something I would read, what a grate title

message 316: by margot (new)

margot (margotwehrle) | 6 comments How I hate creepy old men. Is there an LGBT romance in it? It sounds like there's a good set up for that.

message 317: by Blackbird (new)

Blackbird (guosa) | 8 comments Hi, I'm Guosa and I'm 17, female, Nigerian and I just graduated from secondary school (highschool). My genres are fantasy, romance, sci-fi, YA and sometimes contemporary. I don't do thriller or horror and I want to branch out to more classics but I can't do that alone, I need serious encouragement, that's why I'm here.

lacy the bookish turtle (bookishturtle) Greetings! I'm Lara and I'm from the Philippines. I recently graduated from high school and will soon begin my college journey by August or so. I love reading however I get into slumps frequently so I try to read as much as I can whenever I feel like it. My favorite genres are fantasy, sci fi, dystopian, mystery, and contemporary. I do, however, explore other genres so my favorite genres might change from time to time. I recently read The Deep by Rivers Solomon and I absolutely loved it. Aside from reading, my other hobbies include singing and watching movies or shows. In terms of music, I love musicals and KPOP. While in movies or shows, its close to my favorite book genres.

Feel free to add me as a friend or message me about book suggestions or books that you have read :)

I also love writing texts and drawing :3
So I feel that this group is where I need to be, hope we enjoy our time together and get to read great books ♥
Happy reading! ♥

wordsmith.mx (wordsmithmx) | 2 comments Hi there! My name is Jorge and I'm working on a research-based assignment for a UX writing course. My project is hoping to "prescribe" exactly the kind of books you'd love to read but just don't have time to find. If you have any thoughts, ideas and how-to's, please, I'd love to hear from you! 📚 I'm looking for all you bookworms and word nerds out there because I want to understand some of your reading needs, wants and habits. I would really appreciate it if you take this 3 minute survey at Air Table, the link is just below. Please note that all responses are anonymous. I appreciate your insights! Thank you!

message 322: by Meagan (new)

Meagan Hanley Hi everyone!

My name is Meagan and I am 30. I just got back into reading in a huge way (went from 1-5 books a year to 14 already in 2020!).

I experience good books very viscerally and can talk for hours and hours.. my problem is right now I don't have any friends who are also reading much :( I hope to connect with some folks here to help me slow down a bit and actually get to talk about my mental breakdowns.

My fave genres are Sci-Fi and Fantasy with a healthy dose of romantic subplot (appreciated but not necessary).. political intrigue or horror sub-genres also very fun for me. I love something exciting that will take me away.

I’m glad to find these awesome groups to talk about books because everyone in my class/grade level doesn’t read anything I do 😂 I live in the US and us..." ooooomg, Sarah J Maas is one of my favorite writers too. I'd probably read her grocery list and still love it,

message 325: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Lima (julianal) | 3 comments Hi everyone, my name's Juliana, I have 21 y/o and I'm from Brazil. I study english literature in college and because of that I'm starting to enjoy some of the classics authors like, Faulkner and Edgar A Poe. But I'm mostly into YA romances, fantasy, short horror stories, fiction, LGBTQ+ romances and contemporary. I enjoyed this club because I have the bad habbit of adding like 15 of books into my "want to read" list and end up reading only four of those. Ugh

And I liked the idea of having a buddy reading, bc I love sharing my opnions about the books I read while I read them. Sooo that's pretty much it(and also pratice my writing in english with somone else).

message 326: by Cristina (new)

Cristina Martinez | 4 comments Hii! My name is Cristina, I’m from Puerto Rico. Ever since I was a kid I loved to read and was able to finish long books in a few days with no problem, but recently it’s been taking me forever to finish the ones I start. However, I just decided to just take it slow and just relearn to enjoy reading for pleasure. Currently reading the Throne of Glass series. I usually read a lot of fiction, YA books but am open to other genres so any book recommendations are welcome :)

message 327: by Becca (new)

Becca (becccareads) | 1 comments Hi everybody! My name is Rebecca and I’m twenty from England. I’ve always loved reading when I was young, but stopped because of family stuff and have only started getting back into it. I haven’t read a lot of popular books and so feel left out whenever people talk about them, but I’m excited to hopefully read them soon! I also have a bad habit of buying books and then putting of reading them and so hopefully you all can help me get through them!

message 328: by Ruthie (new)

Ruthie Hi, I'm Ruthie! I'm 23 years old and I'm from Ohio, US. I joined GR in October but have just in the last month and a half or so started to really get into it, making friends on here instead of just the people who were automatically added when I connected my account to my FB.

I love reading YA romance, specifically LGBT romance (something like 21 of the 27 books I've read in the last year and a half have been LGBT, I think!) I used to read so much when I was in middle school, but then high school happened, and then college happened, and what is reading?? (jk, I was reading, but it was always fan fiction)

I just graduated college two months ago and am entering the workforce full time pretty soon, so I'm looking forward to having more time on my hands to get through my TBR list now that I don't have to study!

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Welcome newcomers!

message 330: by Sara (new)

Sara Fernandez Hi! I'm Sara and I'm 29. I'm from Portugal and I love reading. During my student time I bought a lot of books that I didn't got the time to read (I was really tired but I had a second hand shop right outside my home and I just couldn't pass the goodies ^^), and now that I'm working I just keep doing the same... so I hoarded more than 900 books and last year I decided that I was going to read / re-read them all (crazy!). Now, I have a lot of books to read, but I keep wanting to and not being able to do it... I'm hoping that this group will help give me a little more motivation to do it :D

My favourite genres ate fantasy and YA, but I really love them all

message 331: by meltem (new)

meltem (ohmyoswald) | 12 comments Hi!!! I'm Meltem and I'm 19. I'm from Istanbul, Turkey. I came back to reading this June as it is one of my favorite hobbies and frankly, quarantine gave me extra time where i could spend more time on reading so I took the chance. Also I started actively using GR this June, hence the lack of book count and reviews. I'm now trying to get through all the classics and YA books I've bought before and couldn't even finish because of uni, but spending most of my free time watching kpop group reality shows and performances also didn't help my case lmao. After I'm done with the big pile of books, I'd like to read more books with LGBTQ+ characters as I am pansexual but I never actively searched books based on the main characters' sexualities before. i guess that's all haha thank you for reading until this point !!<33

message 333: by Mya (new)

Mya Bee (shelflover) | 3 comments Hi I’m Mya! I’m 22 from the US. I’m a struggling college student in my last year of school thank goodness! I started reading again a few months ago. I love fantasy, mystery/thriller, suspense, romance, and sci-fi. I really want to try to read books that are LGBTQ+ and historical romance and nonfiction.
I’m really glad to be a part of this group cause I’m a slow reader and a huge procrastinator 😂😂

message 334: by Laura (new)

Laura | 72 comments Hi i'm Laura, 39 from the Netherlands. I love reading and most of the time that all goes really well. sometimes i get distracted though and it takes me a while to get back to reading. Also, my tbr seems to grow faster than i can read and i have a hard time choosing the next title when starting a new book. That is where challenges come in! i would also love to particpate in group and buddy reads and talk about what we are reading.

message 336: by LiteraryCryptid (new)

LiteraryCryptid | 218 comments Hi y'all. I'm Gabriela, from Canada. I will read just about anything, but lately I've been sticking around the sci-fi fantasy and cozy mysteries. Trying to read through the 'Murder She Wrote' series, as well as tackle my ever growing to read list. Love to find new books to read (hence the stacks of books waiting for me to start) and usually have at least three books on the go at one time.

message 337: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Hi everyone! Thank you Thea for sending me an invitation to this group ♥︎

My name is Catherine, I'm French, I'll be 28 in October and somehow already having a 30s crisis. I read a bit of everything, classics as much as modern books, Adult as much as NA and YA, and many different genres (fantasy, horror, gothic fiction, literary fiction, historical fiction...) I currently own 33 books I still haven't read but can't stop buying new ones I just need to have (although I really should).

message 338: by Dean Ryan (new)

Dean Ryan Martin (survivordean) | 13 comments Hi all. Thanks to Althea for inviting me to join this group. My name is Dean. I'm a Pilipino from Davao, a city from the southern part of the Philippines.

Reading becomes my proactive hobby. As early as Grade 6, I began to read fiction books such as Hardy boys and those by R.L.Stine and Christopher Pike. I was one of the most quiet students that time. I rather read than socialize with my classmates, but I was not aloof. I had friends. Just a few.

My current favorite authors are: Joe Abercrombie, Patrick Rothfuss and John Grisham. How about you? Who are your favorite authors?

message 339: by Emily (new)

Emily Tyndorf | 1 comments Hi All! Thank you to Althea for inviting me to the group. My name is Emily. I am 21 years old and from Chicago, Illinois in the US.

I have always loved reading, but I have doubled my reading during the covid pandemic. I am an elementary education major, but I think I want to be a professor someday.

I love reading contemporary fiction, memoirs, historical fiction, YA, romance, mystery and really everything. I have been challenging myself to discover new genres like horror and sci fi. I tend to stray away from series, so it will be a fun challenge. My TR is never ending.

Some of my favorite recent reads are: My Year of Rest and Relaxation, Mexican Gothic and Ready Player One!

I set myself a goodreads reading challenge every year and in addition to that I do a prompt challenge most years. I'm on a good way for finishing that this year. :)

message 344: by danica (new)

danica (danicarameeel) | 2 comments Hello! My name's Danica, I'm 19 years old and I currently live in the UK but I'm originally from Philippines. My favourite genres are probably YA, romance, fantasy and adventure. Least favourite is horror, I get scared really easily. I slowed down a bit with reading because I've been busy with studies and moving places so I have a long tbr list that's growing every single day.

Looking forward to the challenges and meeting fellow readers here! :)

message 345: by vic (new)

vic (artheronchild) | 2 comments Hi! My name is Flávia and I’m from Brazil. I’m a 15 years old who love series, books, arts and movies. My favorite gender is Fantasy, but I also like romance and utopian fantasy. Unfortunately, in my country this books are to way expensive, is literally a robbery. I only survive with ebooks/epubs but right now I’m kind of stuck in my readings. I’m writing a fantasy book now, I think that’s cool. My favorite author is Cassandra Clare, but I’m looking forward to read Sarah J Maas and continue the Red Queen series. I never read classics or terror, but I don’t know, maybe someday. I’m trying to work as a illustrator freelancer. I love fighting and I use that in my book storyline. I’m also writing a tv show and there’s nothing that I love more in this world than writing.

message 347: by Hirania (new)

Hirania (hiraniag) | 4 comments Hi everyone, my name is Hirania, I'm from Venezuela and I'm 19. I've always liked to read, but for the last two years I've been reading less and less, so I kind of lost the habit. My favorite genres are YA, fantasy and contemporary books. I would like to read more genres like science fiction and horror, which I don't normally read.

I hope to tackle some of my TBR books. Nice to meet you all!

message 348: by Mary (new)

I mostly read YA fantasy, romance, and contemporary. But, I am currently trying to expand my horizons and venture into reading different genres! Some of my favorite authors include Kiera Cass, Cassandra Clare, Victoria Aveyard, and Emma Mills.

Aside from reading, I also love to crochet amigurumi and listen to broadway musical soundtracks on repeat. I am so excited to join this group and catch up on reading so many books that I missed out on during my reading slump. Nice to meet you all!
