Finished - (view spoiler)[ I wish I hadn't read Circe's comment about the author killing everyone because it made me now want to finish this book. With every page I turned, I was cringing thinking that one of my favorite characters was about to die.....that didn't really happen. Whew!

I do like this series, and want to continue, but I need a break. I'm glad that Amani got her powers back at the end and she and Jin are reunited. I wonder how they are going to free all those Djinns from the Sultan, and rescue the prince. Book 3 should be exciting! (hide spoiler)]

I'm tired of all these dead I loved so many characters and they were a whole crew and now everyone is just dying. I truly hope Leyla die, I just can't stand her and I'm pretty tired with Tamid's childish, we got it buddy but shut the fuck up and do what you have to do because is your fault too, ugh.

Amani has changed so much I still love her, her relationship with Jin is on stand by which I love, normal books makes the whole plot about the character's romance but in these one is about the rebellion, I freaking like it.

I can't believe Sam died, I really thought he will live and Izz, omg and Maz, omg I had so many emotional moments I nearly cry. Jin and Amani were the cutest and when Shazad kissed Sam I literally scream, I was waiting so much for that moment.

I loved so much this trilogy I just too different and unique in this own way I can't for the author to release another book. I don't have to many words because this left me speechless. (hide spoiler)]

1/4 of Rebel of the Sands - (view spoiler)[ This has begun pretty strongly for me. I'm always intrigued by stories of badass girls defyong gender norms! Amani seems like a strong protagonist and I'm looking forward to seeing her shake the constraints of her town and family.

I predict the foreigner in town is the Rebel Prince. I hope he joins forces with Amani, taking her from the town like she asked, but am hoping no romance emerges. It seems to already be setting itself up for one, though!

I'm also looking forward to learning more about the creatures of this world. They are lured by mortal women, which is intriguing. (hide spoiler)]

I'm enjoying the caravan travel as it allows for both a geographical and cultural exploration, which is making this desert feel all the more rich and real. I'm not enjoying the burgeoning romance quite as much, however. It's tame, at the moment, and I'm hoping it doesn't grow to overtake the plot. (hide spoiler)]

4/4 of Rebel of the Sands - (view spoiler)[I knew Amani had a sibling but I never guessed who it would be! I never predicted the metal on the guns to be the dampener for her abilities, though.

This ended really strongly for me. The romance didn't overtake the plot and the political intrigue was heightened. I am also interested to see the emerging abilities of the Demdji. I am especially intrigued by their ability to make truths with their words. The impact of this is not always good and has already provided an impact on the story-line. (hide spoiler)]

I really loved the first book. It was such a strong start to the series. I had a few minor niggles but nothing that seriously marred my enjoyment. I'm looking forward to book 2!

First quarter of Traitor to the Throne - (view spoiler)[I love how the first chapter acted as a recap, without seeming dry and boring. Even though its only been days since I read the first book I love when books do this.

I totally called it that Amani being taken into captivity was her intention! I loved her fake falling trick, allowing the sands to stick to her sweat so she could summon her powers inside the jail cell. The little Demdji girl was discovered but then killed before we could really get to understand her ability. I'm enjoying learning about all their differing abilities so I hope more new Demdji appear.

I guessed the uncinscious woman was Amani's aunt after she called her by her mother's name but there's not much of a family reunion as she kidnaps her. Looking forward to some high seas adventures in the second quarter. (hide spoiler)]

Amani is staying with aunt farah and her childrens..her mom was hanged for killing her husband.
She is gud sniper and goes for a competition in need of money..she meets jin who also came for the same prpose..unfortunately due to a chaos both of them flees.

There are creatures mentioning which iam nt tht clear abt..but they can be killed by iron n skin..
She wants to go to izman,capital city to start everythng anew..and she flees frm dustwlk with jin on the verge of getting killed
On frm the middle she takes her journey on her own by train to izman.

Second quarter of Traitor to the Throne - (view spoiler)[So after saying I was anticipating some adventures on the sea the story shifts straight to the Sultan's temple lol. Tamid is somehow there and it was his intervention that saw Amani cut open and a mixture of iron and bronze inserted under her skin. Brutal!

Amani is now surrounded by new threats, these ones from the women of court. Her guns won't help her here! (hide spoiler)]

Third quarter of Traitor to the Throne - (view spoiler)[I kinda love Sam. He's so sassy. He is also the one to force Amani to confront Tamid. And oooh what did she find out when she actually did!!

Oh, Shira's baby is fathered by a Djinni. As spiky a demeanour as she has, her character is another I can't help but love. And the fact that she didn't sell out Amani even to save herself after birthing the Demdji, proved that she is an essentially good character. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter of Traitor to the Throne - (view spoiler)[Jin has entered the Sultan's palace under the guise of a translator which made his interaction with Anani seem hilarious to me. I could just picture this poor, clueless guy nodding along, oblivious to the tense conversation right in front of him.

Oh wow, the Sultan murdered Kadir! He is not a good man but he really is willing to do whatever he deems correct for the country. Shame, everything he does and believes in are evil!

This was such a strong second series instalment and thankfully didn't fall for middle book syndrome. I loved learning more about the governing bodies and the world that the rebels are fighting to save. Still a bit too much romance for me but, as in the first book, emotion never overtook the plot.

First quarter of Hero at the Fall - (view spoiler)[This begun directly as the second book left off, with the camp reeling from the Rebel Prince's death and Amani revealing that another died in his place. This was such a shock and I did not see it coming!

Amani was always bad-ass but she really has grown throughout this trilogy. Leila, the big-eyed little girl is now a brat that would see them all die and Amani tortures her to gain information for an escape. This doesn't go so well so Amani decides that kidnapping her would be a better solution. I can't believe that both reader and the rebels were taken in by Leila's act. She does nothing but infuriate me now! (hide spoiler)]

Tamid is so eager to return to Dustwalk, can't he see there is more to the world and so much more he can also do to help save it?

Noorsham has returned and he is the leader and saviour of the people of Dustwalk. I'm happy he has returned and I'm hoping for a full reconciliation between the siblings. (hide spoiler)]

I wonder why he is so honest, which is against everything we have been taught about them, and has provided her with so many chances to survive. The final gift was the kiss of life. Fourth quarter of Hero at the Fall - (view spoiler)[It seems the final war is coming ever closer. The Rebels used their actual ship as a battering ram to get close to the Sultan!

I can't believe that Amani gave the kiss of life to Shazad!! I also can't believe she was forced to use the magic ring too soon and that Sam sacrificed his life before they even met the Djinni power they sought to vanquish.

I was equally as shocked believing that first Jin had died and then Amani. She made the correct choice, to save the Rebel Prince, but that was such a hard decision to make! I'm so glad we got to learn what her mother's wish was and how it both saved her daughter and, eventually, the kingdom. (hide spoiler)]
