SOLVED. Children's/YA book, girl goes inside a painting and has to get out, 70s/80s/90s? [s]

I read this children's/adolescent book around 1998-1999 in my school library, but it's probably older than that. A girl goes inside a painting in her house (she might have recently moved house, or is staying with a relative?) When inside the painting, near the beginning she is in a large marble building. There may be other characters she meets inside the painting but I don't remember. She has to find a way out and I remember her walking downhill for a large part. I think there were 1 or 2 boy characters??

The cover *might* have had a picture of the girl's head (wheat-blond, short bob) in a hedge maze. But I could be confusing that with another book.

This has been bugging me for ages, would appreciate any insight!
