No need to apologise - Your English is pretty spot on ... More so considering it's your third language! I look forward to learning more about the "odd traditions" you refer to.

message 403: by Paul (new)

Paul Sayers Hello Lance and James Morcan. All the best for a successful 2016.

I found this group from an invitation on LinkedIn.
My profile page there is: https://cn.linkedin.com/in/paul-sayer...

I am the Producers' assistant for Changchun Film Group Corporation, for policy and production HQ. This sounds grand (and I reckon it is, too) but there's nothing to be jealous of. New Zealand and China have only recently signed a Free Trade Agreement, and only in Nov 2014 was that agreement extended to television co-productions. My work for the Studio at this stage is still mostly constrained to identifying strategic partners who are not afraid of Pandas.

China has a significant investment of social capital in New Zealand.

The (former, recent) Commissioning Producer for the China Central Television (CCTV) network HQ in Beijing has settled here in Wellington, New Zealand. I am seconded to him by Changchun Film Group Corporation. Some interesting projects in the works :-)

New Zealand has film and television agreements with other countries. A NZ-China co-production could also draw in Australia, Canada (and many others listed on the Ministry website).

Lance and James Morcan, here's to a film, TV, web series and video game with a graphic novel version of your works, or derivatives. Perhaps more, as the spirit moves.

I firmly believe that there are many ethical businesses out there which might seriously consider a joint promotion deal with Lance Morcan and son.

You have just the kind of "conspiracy theory" patina to your entertainments that keep them alive in differing cultural contexts, even in the most severe environments.

Such writing skills owned by the ancient prophets kept them safe from the king's blade. But I wonder, will the western world ever give you the full forum you deserve unless you are first more widely recognised?

A prophet is not without honour except in his own home --- so it is said. And yet team Morcan is doing very well.

It may not be enough to just "be" in tune. The partners that the Lord above would send to you also need opportunity to engage.

James Morcan has some experience with an Indian co-production I understand. Those kinds of connections seldom are grown up just because an opportunity was noticed. More likely, they grow through social interaction. Even here in NZ, it is not what you know, but who you know.

Of the (I have heard) 50 000 independently made films produced each year, only a fraction are witnessed by more than a few.

Even mildly acclaimed art-house pieces might go unnoticed for decades.

But when the commercial deal serves the general interest even the relative unknown (and sometimes the artistically challenged) gets a shot at larger audiences, if the distributor is inclined, and proves its power democratically.

It is true, I've often wondered. Though the Forum is open and free, only the Senate's men draw the larger crowds.

The Senate (needs be) concerned with good governance. The most noble interests of society may be served through the agency of art.

God bless.

I believe that the governments of the world are hiding secrets from us, that the rich only want to get richer and those with power only want more power. I believe the US is dominating the world and will bring everyone down with it when its empire falls.
I'm not as serious as I sound in this.

Andrew (whatmatters) | 14 comments Greetings - I'm Andrew

What's a blacklist if you're still compelled to believe that a remedy is possible. It may not resemble utopia, but there is ample room for change. You bring up puzzles, and I like solving puzzles!

I watched the doc on fracking "gasland part 2" 2 days ago. Very well done, if you haven't seen it. Something needs to change. It also brought a comment I heard 2 months ago about bullsh*t and livestock being blamed for the methane.

The EPA disallowed toulol and xylol from primers years ago, becasuse they will kil you in an enclosed environment. Destabilize the land and we may all feel the earth move under our feet. Dams, Yellowstone, major fault lines, yeah drill along the San Andreas fault, along with a thermo energy plant on the southern tip. Projections, who knows - I don't flinch easily. I'm also feeling emotional tonight

Phil Ochs - "When I'm Gone"

Liam Clancy - "Band played Waltzing Matilda" Warning, highly emotional, but Liam nailed it!

I have 10,000 books in my home, and most should be used in an outhouse. The NY times best sellers are unreadable. Where are the good books? :-) most new books are formulaic and predictable and disappointing. and when writers start pumping out books, well, pirsig is 87 and wrote three novels. on and on. I'm currently enthralled by legit books about bigfoot, ufo's and other oddities and cryptozoology type things. hahahaha...
and does this place double as a dating service like everything else online does? :-)

D.C. Alden | 1 comments Hi Lance/everyone,

My name is Darrell (DC) Alden, I’m from London, and I’m
a book fan and thriller writer. I have a strong interest in conspiracy fact – as opposed to theory – and I use those facts to underpin the plots in my novels. My latest thriller, The Angola Deception, is based around 9/11, depopulation, and the New World Order, so obviously I found plenty of material out there that I was able to use. My worldview is thus: individuals/dynasties who possess enormous power and wealth – and have spent lifetimes achieving it – will never allow that power and wealth to be threatened by mere elected officials or the democratic process. Even in the west, elections are stolen and presidents bought, and it is the kingmakers behind the curtain that influence huge but subtle levels of control over world events. Or something like that…☺

Anyway, I look forward to our discussions, and with any luck, might find a conspiracy that I can wrap a future story around.

Here’s my Goodreads author profile:

Dagdrivare | 1 comments Hi everyone! I got invited here by Ila Turner and I'm happy to be here! I am from Sweden and got into conspiracy theories through watching a lot of documentaries. I think it started with Collapse and Michael Ruppert (may he rest in peace) and then i started to watch Alex Jones docu's amongst others.
I am a person always full of doubt, searching for facts, loving discussions.
I do not believe in reptilens and such but the way i see it, "illuminati" is the financial elite composed of mainly bankers, politicians and such.
I am an anti-zionist, neither left or right really but i believe that georgism is one way to help our society to move forward from the status quo the working class are living in.
Well met!

message 450: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary Ward Greetings! I was attracted by the description of this group because I closely scrutinize all information served up by policymakers, educators, political leaders, and the cognoscente – our betters. And because I never drink Kool-Aide.

Personal ~ I am a 50something US/Philadelphia native, married to my first husband and the father of our four wonderful kids. I like good, strong, black coffee and lots of it; I like steaks, too. I like hard exercise followed by steam room followed by that strong, black coffee. Everything I have learned and which is worth knowing came from time with books and from raising kids.

Politics ~ Libertarian. My views, summarized:
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else and you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

Miscellany ~ Some of my favorite non-fiction authors are (1) Michael Lewis who’s books taught me so much about financial markets - Boomerang, The Big Short, etc. Plus, he makes me laugh out loud and for this I am always grateful. (2) Nicholas Taleb, who despite his occasional persnickety tone, is an indefatigable teacher, and a great thinker (AntiFragile, Black Swan) (3) Natalie Angier because her book The Canon, a Whirligig Tour through Science, taught me more about science than any class taken in high school or college. More importantly, through her science writing, I came to embrace all disciplines in science – a small miracle.
Favorite science fiction authors: Bradbury, Heinlein *
Favorite fiction authors: Tolstoy, Dickens, Wilde, Shelly, Austen, Chekov.
Playwrights: Eugene O’Neill, Arthur Miller, Moliere
Poets: Donne, Eliot, Frost, Yeats

*I fell for Heinlein because of this quote of his: “A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

I look forward to the discussions here!

Peace,
Rosemary
