Tim Pyke | 26 comments Hi Lance,

Not sure I have much knowledge but I love to learn! There is definitely more to life than appears on the surface. I'd like to find the secrets but so far haven't...

I believe there was a previous advanced civilisation that was wiped out about 12000bc by some kind of global cataclysm. I am looking forward to graham hancocks new book which is a follow up of fingerprints of the gods, called magicians of the gods, think it's coming out soon.

Thank you for the book list and the discussions, comments, reviews, facts, opinions, and speculation. *Free speech. *Free think.

And I completely agree, Laureen! I've been reading and watching posts here for hours now and the surface has barely a scratch. All I can say is, I'm glad I didn't have work today.

Jordan Benjamin (ihrjordan) | 3 comments Hello my name's Jordan, (Hi Jordan...) while I'm not big into conspiracy theories, I am fond of learning and expanding my horizons. I've always been attracted to debates regarding the mind and brain as I see it as one of the only questions worth asking. My main interests are Buddhism, reading, and general self study. Favorite book is Crime and Punishment by the late, great Dostoyevsky. kbye

message 272: by Laureen (last edited Apr 24, 2015 01:52AM) (new)

Laureen (laureenandersonswfcomau) | 478 comments Welcome Jordan from another whose favorite book of all time is Crime and Punishment. I read it when I was about 17 and have never forgotten the way I felt reading it. It is a bit like smelling something that brings back memories of your childhood.

I too love to read books that explore human thought and motivations and life & death. To understand why people who are virtually the same physically, see events in such a different light and think so differently. Aldo why do we have such strong emotions? Anger, jealously, love, fear, guilt, grief - how does science explain such things. I think there is so much yet to be discovered about our brains and our central nervous system.

I think you will find that there is much discussion about these mysteries here along with conspiracy theories of which I have learnt to respect as Lance & James have a very balanced view point and others add their own perspectives which is the only way we learn to maybe see things differently.

message 274: by Damon (new)

Damon Lee | 2 comments Hello Everyone.

I am glad to be part of this group, to broaden my understanding of other people's views outside the scope of my immediate influence. I am a Christian Philosopher, but don't hold that against me. I studied philosophy, theology, and psychology but have always had a passion of astronomy, cosmology and physics, go figure. It would seem to be at odds, but oddly enough, it brings me balance and I love sharing and talking with others. I have written three books, one on Christian Philosophy and two works of fiction.
My most recent publication is titled In the Face of Darkness and is available now.
I love supernatural and horror movies and books, sci-fi as well. But I also like history and literature. My favorite books are The Divine Comedy, Paradise Lost, the Dark Half and Memnock the Devil.

Check me out on youtube: the damon lee project
facebook: damon lee project

looking forward to the many chats.

Damon

Hey Damon - I don't think any of those subjects/interests you list (including Christian philosophy) are at odds. They only appear to be on the surface, but I think if anyone goes deep enough into these diverse subject they'd find many similarities.
Thanks,

message 278: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi :-) Just joined - thanks for the invitation. I am from the UK but currently living and working in the Netherlands.

I am not a Big Conspiracy fan. There are certainly 'conspiracies' but I don't believe there is a Conspiracy. Why is the word 'government' so often linked to the word 'conspiracy'? It seems to me that trans-national corporations are considerably less accountable than any western government. If there are 'government conspiracies', they are either funded or instigated by corporations or they are run by parts of the government that are out of control. So the question then becomes 'who runs the government'? - perhaps a conspiracy within a conspiracy! Worth checking out Thomas Frank on this - for example 'Pity the Billionaire'. And this is fun: https://youtu.be/8wHnzWyUsYI (clip from BBC World).

I don't believe in a god, I don't believe in an 'a priori' meaning in the world, I don't believe in 'intelligent design' (unless maybe if it's made by Apple), in fact, I don't believe in anything very much :-) However, as John Maynard Keynes said "When my information changes, I alter my conclusions." So - hi! :-)

John Austin Diz,

I share many of your thoughts, so in the real rather than virtual world, we could be friends!

message 280: by Ruby (new)

Ruby Lord | 3 comments Hi everyone, I think this group has some brilliant ideas and as an amateur conspiracy hound I am looking forward to reading all the topics posted.

Latest conspiracy in England - David Cameron has declared illegal immigrants will have their money taken from them and be deported. Why is this a conspiracy? Well, the UK government doesn't know where the illegal immigrants are. They don't know the numbers and it is a ploy to distract the populous from learning what the UK government is really up to, namely, removing the Human Rights Act in this country.

Enough said.

Ruby :)

message 281: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi PatEye - good question. There used to be a thing called 'The Commons' but someone somehow managed to sell it. How can you sell something that belongs to everyone? Well, someone found a way to do it AND found a way to charge everyone for ever after. Euthanise the Rentiers! said J M Keynes :-)

Hi Diz and welcome. I share your misgivings about many so-called conspiracies. However, in this group you'll discover many a conspiracy theory can be renamed "conspiracy fact." Examples of this await your discovery in many of the discussion threads. We look forward to hearing your take on these...

Welcome Ruby. I suspect ur right about that human rights issue in UK.

message 285: by [deleted user] (new)

"Latest conspiracy in England - David Cameron has ..."

To be honest, I don't really see how they can take money away from illegal immigrants - the fact that they are illegal probably precludes them from having National Insurance numbers, bank accounts or any of the other things citizens take for granted.

IMO, the plans to get out of the European Court of Human Rights probably has more to do with the government's plan to force through TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership), supposedly a trade agreement between the US and the EU but more like a corporate power grab behind the backs of both politicians and the demos on both sides of the Atlantic. Doomed it is that we are :-)
