The Prophecy Paradox The Power and Perils of Seeing the Future by Vandana Raj

'The Prophecy Paradox' looks like an interesting read Vandana...Feel free to post it in our Alternative Thinking Books thread at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Its subject matter should appeal to fellow Undergrounders, and I enclose the book's blurb for their interest...

"The Prophecy Paradox: The Power and Perils of Seeing the Future is a thought-provoking exploration of the complexities surrounding the ability to predict what lies ahead. While the power to foresee future events can be a valuable tool for decision-making and planning, it can also come with significant risks and pitfalls.

"Through a combination of case studies, scientific research, and philosophical inquiry, this book delves into the many facets of the prophecy paradox. It examines the history and cultural significance of prophecy, the ways in which our brains process and interpret predictions, and the role of technology and data in predictive analysis.

"The book also explores the ethical considerations of using predictive insight, including issues around privacy, bias, and the potential for self-fulfilling prophecies. Ultimately, it offers a nuanced and thought-provoking perspective on the complex interplay between knowledge of the future and our ability to shape it."

Bheesham | 3 comments I'm Bheesham, a book lover and aspiring writer. I joined this group to get some feedback on my manuscript - it's all about the future of science and technology, set in the year 3020. I've got some pretty brilliant ideas about how science and spirituality will come together to create new laws and transform the world as we know it.

Since this is my first book, I'd love to connect with a few people who could give me some feedback and help me out. So if you're interested in being a part of this exciting journey, please feel free to add me and let's get talking! Thanks a ton and cheers!

Clint Williams Hi, I'm Clint. My grandfather was a bona fide WWII HERO. I've written a book containing his poems, pictures, and stories. It's self-published, so it's not super fancy, but the content is more important than the look of it. "Don't judge a book by it's cover"...literally! Anyways, I consider it an honor and privilege to be able to publish his writings, and hope that my family is as proud of this book as we are proud of my grandfather. He would have been so excited to be on the cover of a book!

Clint, good luck with your book. Your timing is uncannily appropriate for Kiwi and Aussie readers as tomorrow (April 25) NZ and AU commemorate Anzac Day to remember our fallen from WW1 and WW2. The day begins with a dawn ceremony, which still draws huge crowds even now, many decades after those wars.

Clint, FYI...Many American soldiers and sailors were based in NZ during WW2, and quite a few returned Stateside with a Kiwi bride beside them - much to the annoyance of more than a few Kiwi males I might add!
I believe there were a few brawls between NZ soldiers on leave and the Americans!

Jeb Smith | 7 comments My new book about J.R.R Tolkien and Middle-earth, The Road Goes Ever On and On A New Perspective on J. R. R. Tolkien and Middle-earth, is now available at all major retailers.

Blurb

J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth has captured the imaginations of millions of readers around the world for generations. He is considered the father of modern fantasy, but few understand how Tolkien's worldview impacted his mythology. The Road Goes Ever On and On is the first book of its kind to place Tolkien within his proper context, giving the reader a deeper understanding of Tolkien and Middle-earth. Smith takes us on a quest through a wide range of Tolkien's writings to unlock Tolkien's perspective—a perspective that, like the elves who have sailed into the West leaving Middle-earth, has faded away from our world.

You will gain an in-depth knowledge of Tolkien's views on politics, environmentalism, religion, and much more. From the Valar to Hobbits, the free peoples closely follow Tolkien's sentiments. In contrast, forces under the Shadow represent what Tolkien believed was immoral. Covering a wide range of topics, The Road Goes Ever On and On is filled with breathtaking illustrations bringing Middle-earth to life like never before, making this the 'one book to rule them all.'

Reviews

Engrossing... Tolkien's principles—patriotism, Medievalism, localism, Catholicism—are certainly out of fashion today. And yet they're the foundation for all his books, which have sold hundreds of millions of copies. Mr. Smith does a wonderful job of explaining why modern readers are so enthralled by Tolkien's reactionary vision. Whether you're a casual Lord of the Rings fan or a serious Tolkien scholar, every page of Mr. Smith's book will delight and fascinate. And if anyone ever tells you that fairy-tales are only for children, hand him this book. Tolkien ought to be regarded as one of the great social critics of our time, as Mr. Smith so masterfully demonstrates.
-Michael Warren Davis is an editor for Sophia Institute Press and the author of The Reactionary Mind: Why Conservative Isn't Enough. You can find him on his blog, The Common Man.

As the popularity of Tolkien's work continues to endure, the importance of Jeb Smith's work continues to grow. This is because of a prolonged siege against Tolkien's work: the attempt to dislodge it from its Christian and Biblical foundations. Jeb Smith's insights are immensely helpful to this and future generations of Tolkien admirers.

Carmel Attard | 74 comments Hi:
I’ve been a member of this group for quite some time, now, and I’ve participated in discussions several times; however I’ve never formally introduced my books. I wrote a religion-science trilogy.
(1) ‘Is God a reality?—A Scientific Investigation’ proves the existence of a God strictly through modern science—irrespective of religious affiliation—it debunks the scientists’ mantra of the ‘God of the Gaps,’ showing that modern science has brought God more and more to center stage.
Over 90% of people worldwide believe in a Supreme Creator, while over 90% of scientists don’t; so we are grossly under-represented in the scientific community. My concern is that the misguided beliefs of modern scientists will gradually seep down to the general population (as usually happens), and that’s why I wrote this book. I have a bachelor degree in physics and mathematics, and I’m one of the minority of scientists who still believe in God.
(2) ‘Is the Bible Infallible?—A Rational, Scientific, and Historical Evaluation’ shows that the Bible is strictly a book of human authorship, NOT of divine revelation. It fails ALL ‘litmus’ tests for divine authorship; (a) it’s chock full of textual contradictions, (b) its so-called ‘prophesies’ never transpired, (c) its science is nowhere close to modern science, and (d) its historical accounts are flawed.
I was a Jesuit for more than six years and I believed strongly in the inerrancy of the Bible, but over fifty-odd years of research, I had to change my mind. By letting the Bible speak for itself, I show that whoever believes in the Bible’s infallibility is delusional. I’ve been told by avid readers that this book would be an excellent university-level, biblical course textbook.
(3) ‘Faith and Reason—Disturbing Christian Doctrines’ shies away from Christianity’s past and present dirty laundry and concentrates on its false doctrines: such as (a) hell, (b) no salvation outside the Church, (c) the trinity and Jesus’s divinity (d) original sin and redemption, (e) Jesus’s Second Coming, (f) Jesus’s real presence in the Eucharist, (g) auricular confession (h) priestly celibacy, (i) God’s Jekyll-Hyde personality, and so on. “The truth will set you free.”
Christian doctrine is supposedly based on the biblical texts: so again, I let the Bible speak for itself and debunk all these doctrines; not to mention exposing the Church’s occasional manipulation of biblical texts to suit its purpose.
I wanted to keep this introduction as short as possible, but should you be interested in further details of my books, you may read the following article entitled ‘Religion-Science Trilogy’ in my website: https://faith-or-reason.com/2021/09/0....
Best regards,
Carmel.

In a galaxy where the ruling class listens to everyone's thoughts, the only way Thomas can rescue his enslaved friends is to trick his crowd-pleasing mentor–plus her thirty trillion fans.

He might just conquer the galactic empire while he's at it.

The first book, MAJORITY, is forthcoming from Podium in September 2023, with the rest of the series coming out in 2024 and 2025. I'd love to give y'all a sneak peek! This is a fully pre-written dark space opera epic in the vein of Scott Sigler, Vernor Vinge, or Red Rising.

You can request an ARC on NetGalley at http://netgal.ly/kYd1py or ask me for a copy.

MAJORITY has more than 750,000 reads as a web serial on Royal Road. A reader says: “I've read a lot of stories on this site, and I can say this is probably the first of its kind. The first of its merits is how unique it is.” Another says: “This is not a mindless power fantasy slog. What makes this story shine is the world building and characters.”

Carmel Attard | 74 comments Hi Donna with regards to your message 1132:
Please bear with me for a little while by reading the following lengthy biblical passage, first: I promise you will see my point.
In Matthew’s gospel, we read, “Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, ‘See ye not all these things? Verily I say unto you, there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.’ And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, ‘Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?’ And Jesus answered and said unto them, ‘Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, “I am Christ”; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. Then if any man shall say unto you, “Lo, here is Christ,” or “there”; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders: insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, “Behold, he is in the desert”; go not forth: “behold, he is in the secret chambers”; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.’” (Matthew 24:1–35, KJV)
I’d like you, here, to focus on Jesus’s own words “Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place.” In other words, ALL the above had to happen before Jesus’s generation all died: by 100 CE, say. Indeed, the biblical scholars of the (Catholic) ‘New American Bible’ admit, “The difficulty raised by this verse cannot be satisfactorily removed.” (NAB, Matthew 24:34n)
Approximately two millennia later, the sun has not been darkened, the moon still gives its light, and no stars have ever fallen from heaven upon the earth. If a single star (like the sun) were to fall on earth, it would incinerate the earth instantly, and there would be nobody left to mourn. Finally, heaven and earth are still here while Jesus’s words have turned to dust, one might dare say. So, how can you still say that the Bible is infallible, or that it is God’s word? God makes no mistakes, and he doesn’t lie, either, right?
As if this wasn’t bad enough, God in his wisdom, repeated this so-called ‘prophecy’ three times in the Bible. I don’t want to bore the reader by writing them out again here, so I shall only cite them: Mark 13:1–27 and Luke 21:5–33; you can read them later for your own satisfaction. After the parable of the fig tree, Mark has, “Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till ALL these things be done.” (Mark 13:30, KJV, emphasis mine) Likewise, after the parable of the fig tree, Luke has, “Verily I say unto you, this generation shall not pass away, till ALL be fulfilled.” (Luke 21:32, KJV, emphasis mine) One must be practically blind or hopelessly biased to miss this statement THREE times. In my opinion, therefore, if anything, God is telling us to take the Bible with a pinch of salt.
On the other hand, unlike the Bible, there is no doubt that our reason was given to us by God. If you feel you need a Bible quote to prove this, here it is: “And God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness’” (Genesis 1:26, KJV) Since God is a ‘spirit,’ we cannot be like him bodily: so it must be in our powers of reason that we resemble him.
Now look at this nonsense from someone I happen to generally admire, Saint Paul, written thirty-odd years after Jesus died: “But this I [Paul] say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth [from now on (NAB)], that both they that have wives be as though they had none; and they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not; and they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.” (First Corinthians 7:29–31, KJV) Notice the clauses “the time is short” and “this world passeth away.” As you can see, Paul, too, thought that the end-times were very near: in essence, he told contemporary Christians to stop living their normal life.
Even prior to Jesus’s starting his public ministry, John the Baptist preached practically the same thing: “But when he [John] saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, ‘O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: and think not to say within yourselves, “We have Abraham to our father”: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.’” (Matthew 3:7–10, KJV) Notice the clause “the axe is [already] laid unto the root of the trees.”
Don’t all these five passages sound like a “last warning”? I could go on with such biblical quotes, but I think I’ve made my point, and I don’t want to bore the reader. Now, if we cannot rely on the Bible regarding prophecies, I’d say much less can we rely on the Catholic Church (or any other Christian Church) who, presumably, bases its doctrine on the Bible. Yet, in your book’s preface, you wrote, “Church teaching and Scripture are both indefectible. … Any apparition that gives messages contrary to Scripture and Church teaching is demonstrably false.” It begs the question, therefore: have you ever read the entire Bible?—cover to cover, I mean. In view of the above, haven’t you based your book on shaky foundations?
Regards,
Carmel.

Judy | 9 comments Hi I’m Judy. I’m not a writer I’m a researcher writing books. I will never classify myself as a write against real writers. I feel I cheated using ChatGPT. I’m writing books to help transform our planet. I’m a grandmother who just wants a better world for my grandchildren. I’m a programmer, problem solver, critical thinker. I sure could use your help sharing my research if you think the body of work is powerful to YOU. Thank you so much.
Judy

Germán (german1138) Hi all, hope you doing good! I'm Germán, I'm 23yo and I'm from Argentina. Usually I like to read fiction books but nowadays I'm trying to get into non-fiction genre; started with one from Jaron Lanier about social media and with Sapiens of Harari. If you've any other recommendation would be welcome !

At the same time I'd like to ask, have any of you had any problem lately with goodreads? or the way they manage communities/groups? I'd like to know if is there any common issue.

Thanks!

Judy | 9 comments I’m trying to share my research in these books, could really use some reviews to see if I’ve written something that makes sense to others. 1 “ it’s Time - a catelyst for change 2 “ Crazy is the new sane “ and 3 “ the promise land - when God shows up” I’m working on editing one last one which is “ be the master of the game - peace tables “ trying to influence positive change but introducing concepts nobody has heard about before

Kain Rafferty | 1 comments I recently published my first book, "BROKEN". It is a contemporary fiction novel about a man suffering from bipolar disorder. I'm not sure if that exactly fits into the topic of this group, but mental health is a very important topic that does not get the coverage it deserves.

As a person with bipolar disorder, I wrote this book in order to give a better glance into the mind of a person with mental illness, and to help those who are bipolar (or know someone with the affliction) to better understand the mind of those going through the battle.

The book is available on Amazon, in both paperback and Kindle format. I hope some may experience and appreciate it.

Thank you.
Kain Rafferty

S.S. Jung (ssjung) | 4 comments Hello everybody!
My name is Scott Jung, and I just finished my first novel.

With this election coming in Nov, I wrote and self-published a novel. It covers the events in election interference seen in 2000, 2017 and the current election in as SF wrapper of a story.

Speculative fiction at my best! How would a takeover of our societal/political/sexual freedoms happen in today's world? And make it the largest oppressive geopolitical governmental system ever? (Rights restrictions, oppression, worker/sexual orientation restrictions.)

We saw an attempt in WWII. They tried it on Jan 6th 2021. But what about Dec 12th 2000? Remember that one, it's important because that one worked! Bush v. Gore, legal case, decided on December 12, 2000, in which the Supreme Court of the United States reversed an order by the Florida Supreme Court for a selective manual recount of that state’s U.S. presidential election ballots. The 5–4 per curiam (unsigned) decision effectively awarded Florida’s 25 Electoral College votes to Republican candidate George W. Bush, thereby ensuring his victory over Democratic candidate Al Gore.

Now we live in a country with the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, and presidential immunity being considered.

I believe it is time to look at those events again and in my book 'Proximity Factor' I compare it to this years coming election. Should our government be the foundation of a triad of oppressive governments with Russia, China and North Korea? That's what one candidate wants. My book is a fictional account of one of the boldest attempts to takeover the United States Government to our detriment on November 7th 2000.

It's description is:
Meet Cynthia Austin, a brilliant 32-year-old PhD neurologist whose career has taken her to the forefront of high-security scientific experimentation within the US Pentagon's Air Force Division.

Assigned to evaluate a mysterious project gone wrong in the remote community of Gakona, Alaska, Cynthia soon discovers a global experiment with dystopian consequences. Fighting against rogue scientists, human experimentation, mind control and hallucinations. Her investigations uncover a plan to bring our government, institutions and environment— to an end as we know it.

Looking to engage and discuses this and any other topics with the group. Thank you all!
