SOLVED. YA historical, set in 1600's, two daughters of preacher, one gets pregnant with demon baby [s]

The sisters might've been twins, I'm not sure. One was ugly and the other was beautiful, but the beautiful one was a bitch and stole their mother's jewels from a chest in the attic in an attempt to seduce some boy she liked. It must've worked, since she got pregnant. Their father was a preacher and the mother had died.

Another character was a girl who was thought to be a changeling. She was apprenticed to the town midwife. There's a scene early on in the book where this woman is in labor and the midwife has the girl stick her hand in the lady's cooch, and she describes wet warmth and the baby's head. I think the baby wasn't ready to be born yet. The mother was pissy and impatient. I think it was set in England in the 1600's.

Anyway, I got bored so I started skimming, and at some point the hot bitch sister gave birth, but the child was black and deformed and described as looking like a demon, so they all thought the changeling midwife girl had cursed it for some reason. (Scapegoating?) The writing was halfway decent but the plot was a soap opera.

Cover was black or dark red, had a picture of a blond girl wearing one of those black dresses the Puritans wore.

Did your book have supernatural elements in it? It's been eight years since I read it so I'm a bit hazy on some of the details, but I think you might be looking for The Merrybegot by Julie Hearn.
