Although there were many points during, Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald that I greatly disliked Scott, the one area that I disliked him the greatest was when Scott would not allow Zelda to put her own name on any of her writings. He wouldn't allow her to be successful at anything because he wanted to be the spotlight everywhere. I truly believe that he was so insecure that he wouldn't allow Zelda to rise above him in any way.

How legitimate was it for Scott and his agent, Harold Ober, to sell Zelda’s short stories under a joint by-line?

Mary | 22 comments Not very! But they did get a lot more money having his name on them. $4000 or even $400 would be an amazing amount to be paid for a story today, and per the inflation calculator "$4,000 in 1920 is equivalent in purchasing power to $50,429.20 in 2018. (https://www.officialdata.org/1920-dol...)

Was it in 'This Side Of Paradise' where Scott actually took whole conversations from Zelda's diary and used them?

Thank you for that calculation. I would agree that she most likely could not earn what he could just simply because of the times but I did not feel that that should have taken away from her own work. It was that book and several other books as well if I am not mistaken.

I agree. And Scott did nothing to support her either. And can you believe that today, in 2018, women still earn .80 to every dollar that a man earns?!
