I'm always happy to share my favorites in literature and film :-)
I usually like the more independent Cinearts features.

My current top 5 favorite films in my theater:

1. Free Solo (rock climbing documentary)
2. Boy Erased (based on a memoir/true story)
3. Can You Ever Forgive Me? (Melissa McCarthy/memoir)
4. A Personal War (true story on journalism)
5. Bohemian Rhapsody

A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody, First Man are among the most popular films right now. Fantastic Beasts will be released next week and is currently the most anticipated film.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Glad to hear more good things about bohemian rhapsody-I really want to see it.

Did you see the trailer for Holmes and Watson? looks fun if you’re in the mood for something light. ( I love will Ferrell). :)

I actually haven't seen the trailer for Holmes and Watson :-) I typically skip the previews/trailers when I watch movies at the theater.

Bohemian Rhapsody is among the best films in the theater right now. Performances are spot on. Audiences are loving the film.

Our new releases this weekend were overall rather week - there will be some good ones next weekend.

Rachel | 3524 comments Christine- Have you seen the trailer for bird box on Netflix? It looks like they did a good job adapting it (and it stars Sandra Bullock which is awesome:)

message 59: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments Not yet but will definitely check it out. Thanks for the heads up

Christine | 798 comments Oh my! That looks terrifying but good. I haven’t read the book. Should I read it first?????

YES! :)

Christine | 798 comments Its a good thing its already in my TBR pile.

Bohemian Rhapsody was very entertaining. So many good songs. If you like their music, you will love the movie. I was/am a fan of Queen. I think Rami Malek captured the spirit of Freddie Mercury!

I read The Bird Box a few years ago. Maybe I should re-read it before I watch the movie :-)

I'm gonna give this Anne Tyler author a try. Not sure if I'll be able to get one of her titles from the library and finished before the end of November, but maybe.

Thanks Rachel for creating these challenges - they introduce me to new authors and add variety to my reading experience.

It’s been a while since I read it too but the trailer brought the story back to me. It looks like they stayed true to the book for the most part at least what I remember about it.

You’re welcome, Dustin! Glad you still enjoy doing the challenges with me after all these years. :D

Rachel | 3524 comments I finished The Poet X The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo for the random task. I really liked the audiobook which is narrated by the author. It’s basically a coming of age story about a teen questioning her religious upbringing and finding her own voice through slam poetry.

What is slam poetry?

Hopefully I'll get a chance to watch Widows, Fantastic Beasts - Crimes of Grinwald and Instant Family this weekend. Not sure if I can squeeze them all in, but we'll see :-) Good new movie releases this weekend.

Rachel | 3524 comments Dustin Crazy little brown owl wrote: "What is slam poetry?"

It’s spoken word poetry at competitions although it didn’t seem like she was actually competing in the book although I could be wrong. She would go to events and read her poetry to an audience.

I’m not a big poetry fan- mostly because I don’t get it but I do love novels in verse. I’ve really enjoyed Brown Girl Dreaming, Long Way Down and the Ellen Hopkins books that I’ve read. I think if you like that form of storytelling-you will probably like this book. I thought the audiobook was really good.

Still haven’t picked up a book and am having different health issues the drs are trying to figure out. Haven’t been myself.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Looking forward to hearing what you think of Widows. I’m a big fan of Gillian Flynn and Viola Davis. The trailer looks good.

Christine | 798 comments I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I got to spend time with both of my children and their significant others over the long weekend. We met in southern Utah, in Moab. We got in two great hikes, had a lot of good food and a lot of laughs. I feel very blessed that my adult children spend time with me!

I finished my monster book. I'm not even going to attach a link to it. It was so awful. I was expecting an Indiana Jones type book and got something else, lol.

Hope your next book is more enjoyable. :)

Rachel | 3524 comments Finished The Outsiders which was one of the books nominated. I probably watched the film a million times when I was young. This was my first time reading the book-the movie is a faithful adaptation which is always awesome.
Stay gold. :)

I have finished my reading challenge.

Widows is good. I thought the ending scene was a little weird, but overall the film is well-done. Not one of my most favorites of the year by a long shot but there were some good twists.

RBG is my hero!
