Fall with Me
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

How it Qualifies: 4th in Series
Date Finished: 10/25
Rating: ★★★★★
Review:
I absolutely love Armentrout's little love stories! It's so cool to me how they all interconnect with their characters and how the universe just continues to grow. In this story specifically, I was so attached to all of the characters and seeing Roxy go through everything she did was emotional to read, but it was also cool to see her grow so much because of her experiences. Seeing her grow closer to and reconcile with Reese was fun to read as well, and how he was always there for her at the end was so cute.

Book/author The Ruins / Scott B. Smith
How it Qualifies - Standalone
Finished: 01Nov18
Rating: 3.5***
Review:
Creepy, chilling, thrilling, suspenseful. Four Americans meet a charming German tourist at a Cancun beach resort. When Mattias says he's going to an archeological dig to get his brother the two couples decide to go along. They're joined by a Greek guy who speaks neither English, Spanish nor German ... but he does bring 3 bottles of tequila. What they find is nothing like what they expected. One horrific revelation after another. I feel my skin crawling just thinking about it. I loved Smith's debut work - A Simple Plan; this one doesn't give me the psychological suspense. I was more irritated by most of these characters - Jeff and Mattias being the sole exceptions. Still, it held my attention.

The Hob's Bargain

How it fits: Stand-alone
Bonus Point: Tagged As Paranormal

Not Quite Crazy Catherine Bybee
How It Qualifies: #6 in Series
Date Finished: 10/29
Rating: 5 stars
Review: I loved this entire series. This was the last book. Rachel meets Jason when his car went off the road during a storm. She has just moved to Connecticut from California for a new job. Of course, it ends up Jason owns the company she now works for. Which adds difficulties to their blooming relationship. Rachel is the guardian of her bff's son, Owen. This book had most of the characters from previous books in the series. It was a great ending to the series.

Because I just finished listening to a standalone that I could count for this week's read. (In case I don't finish the text of my book in time.)

My book The Hob's Bargain is shelved as Paranormal on the first page only.
That works. Basically, the rule I'm going with is if anyone other than yourself has tagged it as the genre in question, I'll take it.

I'm still going to try to finish THE RUINS ... but it's going more slowly than I expected. So at least I know that I can use my "back-up" stand-alone work if I need to.

The Hob's Bargain
Pages: 281
How it fits: Stand-alone
Review: This is a magical retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in a fantasy world. In a land where the only known magic is death magic, Aren has hidden her magic, until Raiders kill her family. The Hob is alone on his mountain the last of his kind. When Aren's village is beset by Raiders the Hob makes a bargain in return for helping. Unfortunately it fell away in the middle, with the introduction of all manner of mythical creatures to be appeased or dealt with while the Hob taught Aren to expand her magical skill. It works as a getting to know each other / falling in love device, and I particularly liked the scenes with his tail. (This is a clean book, by the way!)

Beyond Reach by Karin Slaughter (Grant County #6)
Date Read: 10/30
Rating: ★★★★
I put off reading this last book in the Grant County series for some time because I found out what happened ahead of time. While the ending is not what I would have wanted, it was still an enjoyable book. I really like Sara's character and Lena has grown on me over the course of the series. Karin Slaughter writes very good thrillers, however this series was sometimes gruesome. I am looking forward to reading the Will Trent series next.

American Gods by Neil Gaiman
Date Read:
How it Fits: Stand alone
Rating: 4****
This book was surreal and still being digested by my NyQuil fueled brain. I will need to read it again because I feel like I could gain more from the pages on the second time around.
Shadow, still is shock from the death of his wife meets Mr. Wednesday on a plane. He agrees to be a body guard for Mr. Wednesday on a road trip.
It is discovered on the trip across the US that Mr. Wednesday is a incarnation of Odin and he is gathering up all the old gods. He is meeting up with an incarnation of Loki and they are in for the long con with Shadow.
I did find a favorite part in the book, I am going to hang this on my wall.

The Sun Is Also a Star
Author: Nicola Yoon

How it Qualifies: Standalone
Date Finished: 11/1
Rating: ★★★★★
Review:
While this book lacked some of the same magic Yoon's other book, Everything Everything, had, I still enjoyed following Daniel and Natasha throughout the day they met and all of their adventures through their falling in love. I found it interesting how different perspectives of other minor characters were given throughout the book, specifically Irene's, and how many of them would connect back to the main story. I also felt very attached to the characters throughout the whole story and felt everything along with both of them as Natasha had to move back to Jamaica. The Epilogue was probably my favorite part, as several of the characters come back together, Irene finally gets to thank Natasha for saving her life, and Natasha and Daniel are able to continue their relationship.

You're right! I'll go back and amend...

I know I'll be reading a series # 6 ....I've requested two of them at the library. Let's see which comes in first. (Both show "in transit" on my library record)
EDITED later in the day .... and one of them has arrived! (Makes that decision easy) ...

Mrs. Jeffries on the Trail by Emily Brightwell
How it qualifies: # 6 in the Mrs Jeffries series
Date finished: 05Nov18
Rating: 3***
Review:
Mrs Jeffries and the rest of Inspector Gerald Witherspoon's household staff once again help him solve a murder, without letting him know they're helping. It's a fun cozy mystery series, with a bit more danger and thrill right before the reveal. In early books I was rather irritated by how completely clueless Witherspoon seemed, but now he's more professional and savvy. A fast, fun, enjoyable read, with a great cast of characters.

Review: Another fantastic book in this series. Eve, Roarke and the gang solve another mystery where someone is killing young females. I love these books and all the interaction between the secondary characters.

This is a story of family an redemption. Franklin is called home by his estranged father one last time.Eldon feels he is dying and wants his son walk with him into the mountains to position him in the traditional warrior pose after he passes. While they walk the speak about the past and the choices that Eldon has made in his life.
Richard Wagamese is an amazing writer and I was honored to get to meet him a few years ago. All of his books are tied to Aboriginal life and culture. 5 stars. I recommend all of his books to everyone.

Review: I was a little dubious heading into this one as a lot of people have shelved it as ya. I can see where that is coming from. Julius is only 24 and Marci, 25. They both come across as very young and Julius certainly is very naive. This is more a coming of age story, as Julius works with Marci to solve family problems while working to overcome a massive inferiority complex because he's doesn't fit the norms of dragon society.

Iced by Karen Marie Moning (Fever #6)
Date Read: 11/6
Rating: ★★★
This one was just OK for me and my least favorite in the series so far. I prefer the Fever series books with Mac in them, and she returns in the next one so I felt like I had to read this one first. Dani has not been a character that I cared for in previous books. She is only fourteen, a little annoying, and her age did not fit the situations addressed in the book. The story was boring at a few points and I did not feel invested in it. The ending was awesome though and I look forward to finding out what it leads to in the next book, with more Mac!

Review:
I have been putting off reading this book for so long, but I'm so glad I finally decided to read it! I loved how all of the characters connected and came together in the end, and I'm also very happy that this book had a (mostly) happy ending while keeping me on the edge of my seat the whole time. When both Cassie and Ben went to save Sammy at the same time and ran into each other in the hallway, I was both so excited and scared at what would happen and I'm so glad they both were able to walk away safe. My favorite part of the story was probably Cassie's interactions with Evan and I'm upset he got left behind, but it was cool to learn more about the Others and see their interactions. I'll definitely be reading the next book to see what happens next!
