Stephanie, we don't do anything with empty author profiles, a script is run periodically to clean them up.
Next time you find a GR author that needs merging, it goes in the " Goodreads Author profiles needing merging BY GR STAFF pt. 23" thread. If its just 2 author profiles that are unclaimed, just start a new thread in Book Issues. :)
