R17: Team #15 ~ Cool Chicks Read

I just don't want anyone to pick a book from the wrong shelf. The book you chose is tagged 1 time as "dragon" so you are still good.

Shelf #8 - Dragon

Dragon's Heat
Rating: ★★★★
Completed: 11/02
Final Thoughts: I did not like Dirk at first. The way he treated Jon, his mate, was horrible. Luckily he pulled his head out of his ass eventually and things got better. Sean Crisden was the audiobook narrator and I always enjoy his stuff!

Review: I have avoided reading this one (even with all the high ratings) because dragons just aren't "my thing". I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised with this book. It was one of those books that when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about when I could get back to reading it. I did find the conversation between Dragos and Pia a little corny sometimes. But I still laughed quite a bit and enjoyed their chemistry together. The world-building was great and there were so many secondary characters that I wanted to know more about. I definitely see many more great stories arising from this series and look forward to reading them.

Review: First of all, I want my very own rose goblin. Those creatures are so creative and unique and I loved them!
It took me awhile to get into this one because there is a LOT of backstory before we get the plot moving. I kept waiting for the payoff but it’s clear that particular score won’t be settled for some time. The events definitely feed into Toby’s motivations so it’s not totally off-putting, but it made for a bit of a slog while reading at times.
Once you push through, there is lots of promise for the series. I’m hesitant to say too much without spoiling things, so I’ll just say that I’m glad one particular character turns out not to be a love interest. He struck me as incredibly icky and the fact that Toby seemed to have feelings for him made me doubt her as a heroine. Luckily, she spared me from having to hate her, though I was disappointed she couldn’t see it all for herself.

Review:
I really liked dragon actually it was two books in one a very pleasant surprise. I was worried because the audio book was only at 60% when it seemed like the end and then another one started it was great. in the first book I loved Annwyl she was strong and stubborn and liked to make people pay my kind of gal. The second book was about the queen dragon from the first one and how she started Rihannon it was interesting and a bit steamy a rough start for them but they made it through. I think I will like this series and plan on continuing.

Shelf: Shifters

Finished: 11/13/18

Review: This book thankfully left a lot of the secondary towns and characters to the background and put Lakeside back in the forefront of the story. I was hooked once again on the bonds forming between the humans and Others. Best new character by far was Miss Twyla, who handled everyone with the gruff no-nonsense only a grandmother can get away with.
I can’t get over how well Bishop can tease out a plot while wrapping us up so completely in a new world that you don’t even notice what’s happening until it’s right in front of you. I am so sad to say goodbye to some of these characters but am looking forward to seeing what new adventures this world still holds for me in the spinoff series.

Shelf #9 - Urban Fantasy

Jared
Rating: ★★
Completed: 11/15
Final Thoughts: Not the best of the series but maybe I'm just bored with these books. I find it difficult to believe she had no clue her father was such a horrible man. And despite his obvious hatred of shifters she still worked for him. Nope. Not buying it. The narrators did a good job though.

Review: This was not quite as good as the first book in my opinion, but still entertaining. I just thought the pace was a little too slow with not enough action. Also the hero and heroine's chemistry never felt quite right to me, and both their personalities were a little annoying and over the top. I still loved the world-building and all the possibilities for future books though. I will definitely read the next in the series.

Review:
This series just seems to get better and better and I am glade I continued on with it. This is so different then the show and I for one am glad. Some interesting things happen when they visit away with the queen and before she leaves her brother is married now. Hmmm wonder if he is going to make it. I want to know when Bob is going to be changed or if he is going to be.

Review: Loved this entry in the series! While the reveal was a little lacking and the murderer didn’t endanger everyone as much as usual, this had a super interesting premise of the copycat crimes. I also loved Peabody’s arc in this one and can’t wait to see how her relationship with Dallas evolves now. Awesome story!

Review: This book is one of the reasons that I so enjoy playing Bookshelf Bingo. This is a book I never would have read if it wasn't for this game...and I never would have discovered such a talented author. I don't give 5 stars lightly, but this one is definitely deserving! I truly enjoyed the mystery of this swoon-worthy illusionist seeking his ultimate revenge. Yes the illusions were entertaining, and the mystery quite a page-turner. But it was the epic romance that really kept me turning the pages into the wee hours of the night. This book just checked all the blocks for me as far as romance goes. I can't wait to read more from this fantastic author.

The Watcher
Rating: ★★
Completed: 11/23
Final Thoughts: This wasn't that great. I've read some amazing mystery/thriller books in the last few weeks so this one was pretty lame in comparison. Plus the romance aspect was pretty lame. I felt no chemistry. It just felt weird and a little off.
