The first two books are short story collections. The Last Wish is a good story. One of the wishes is hilariously different from the tv show. The witcher character talks much more in the books. The tie-in with fairy tales is more more explicit in the books. The tv show is a severely abridged version of the short stories.

He's reading a chapter from one of the stories called "The Voice of Reason" that forms an interlude with all the other stories.
