Yes...I just started it and quite enjoy it so far so don’t think I’ll abandon it if it doesn’t work.

Great ----- see what you think as you read it and then let me know if you still think it works;)

Oy vey. Just finished it...that was hard to read in much the same way the other Cli Fi books I've been reading are: the Earth turns on us and then we turn on each other. The disaster was key to the story, but again I don't know if it's too much of a stretch to call it "Cli Fi"--as most of the Cli Fi I've been reading has been speculative (which makes it far easier to identify), nothing really calling out what we're already experiencing as is presented in this book. THOUGH, I've been researching it online and found this article which describes the correlation between climate change and worsening hurricanes, discussing Katrina in particular, which would support the argument that it would work for this category.

Honestly, though, it'll only be worth +5 combo points for me so it's not a big deal if it won't work...I guess it was more an academic question: it made me wonder while I was reading if it would be considered a disaster related to climate change or just an horrific natural disaster.

Anika | 2815 comments Also, while I'm at it, I was hoping to get California by Edan Lepucki approved (as it's not clear from the GR blurb that it's cli fi).
From the book: "She wondered if he'd struck out for the wilderness before the earthquakes...L.A. never recovered from the destruction. Nor had San Francisco, six months later...If August hadn't seen the reports of wildfires in Colorado and Utah, or, later those snowstorms across the Midwest and the East Coast or the rainstorms north of here, he would have no idea how battered the world was." (The snowstorms killed off 2/3 of the population of the Midwest, the earthquakes left the largest population centers of California uninhabitable, most of the people on the Eastern seaboard have died from resulting epidemics.)
