Sarah | 18550 comments Great song choice Lynn!

I've just finished Coraline. It's nearly 11:30pm here so I'm going to go to bed in a moment. I'm going to the climbing wall in the morning but I am going to try and get another book in tomorrow. Probably going to read another short one - The Emperor's Soul.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hi all,
This is the first time I have had a chance to check back in. My sewing project had turned into a nightmare, but I think I have it under control now. Everyone is finally gone and I can work without all of the interuptions. Not only that, AmyK found me a You Tube link so I can listen to Chocolat while I sew. I searched Audible.com and all of my library links and it is not available in audio. Now, I can sew and listen. (At least I had Scarlet to listen to while I was taking the stupid shirt apart.)

If anyone is still looking for a book, My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece is fantastic and I was thinking it could be done with "My Bonney Lies Over the Ocean". I listened to the audio book until 3:00am this morning (it was about 5 hours long.)
David Tennant reading was wonderful!

Thanks :) I only have to hear the first few bars of the intro for it to put a smile on my face ..... one of my go to songs.

The only thing that comes to me for Bel Canto is the theme song to the the old TV show "Rawhide". I don't have any words, just the tune in my head, since I don't know what the book is about. I may read it someday. It is sitting on my book shelf staring at me as I write.

I better get off and scarf down my sandwich and coffee, so I can get back to sewing as I listen to Chocolat.

I would if I thought it work on dog poop and pee for when Callie goes on the deck. With her balance problems I let her go there instead of making her go down steps (and at 60+ pounds she's to heavy to carry).

Sounds like an opera song is called for. OMG - I just thought of a great one!

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Fortunately,Bel Canto has picked up a lot since my last comment on it. The title actually means "Beautiful Singing" and a main character is an opera singer. I think I'll wait until I'm finished with the book until picking my song.

Lynn,

I actually thought of Friday I'm in Love, too! Are you finished with the book? I'm about 75% done. I keep stopping because I know the emotional punch to my gut is coming....soon.
I'm not sure Tainted Love will be my ulitmate song choice, since this book is much more tender.... so now i'm thinking Tender Love by Force MDs. :)

Yes I have, loved it!

I've got most of my lyrics sorted, just need to tweak which I think I'll do tomorrow and then I'll do a recording.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I'm still plugging along. There's 2-1/2 hours left in my audiobook. I wonder if I can work "don't mess with a wizard when he's wizarding" into the lyrics.

G'night Sarah, and all the other east hemisphere readers who are heading into bed.

Mariab | 3059 comments Cheers everybody!!!
I can not read along with You this time, but that doesn't mean I can not sing along to cheer You all.
Here the lyrics (with the music from "Put Your lights On", from Santana)

Hey now, all you readers
Leave your lights on, live your lights on
Hey now, all you dreamers
Leave your lights on, live your lights on

Hey now, all the runners
Put your lights on, put your lights on
Hey now, all you children
Leave your lights on, you better leave your lights on

Cause there's a monster living behind your shelves
Whispering in your ears
There's a buddy, with a hand on the heart
It say you 've got nothing to read

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I'm awake. And have read 5 pages of From the Land of Green Ghosts: A Burmese Odyssey. I'm bribing myself to clean parts of the kitchen, or plant some plants, then read for an hour, and repeat. That's the plan anyways.

I hate it when friends want to hang out with you and make you do social things ;)
Completely understand. Love my friends and family, but not on Toppler days. My Mum just informed me she's coming over to have a sticky-beak at the new kitchen. Which means I have to finish cleaning it before she comes... bah.

Charlotte (caelestial) | 23 comments Sadly, it's for school so I have to finish it before the 18th. I'm reading Hollow City, a YA novel, on the side. I'm getting through it pretty quickly and it's so nice to read something that doesn't make my head hurt.

Janice wrote: "I finished my book, and now I'm stumped over writing lyrics. I'll sleep on it and tackle it in the morning."

I thought of another song that's just begging to be used. You might even be able to fit your wizarding line into it.

My own definitions here, you could probably find it more concisely on the net.
Sticky-beak = (verb) to have a look at something, to investigate, to check something out. Usually something that doesn't have anything to do with you, or belongs to someone else. eg "I'm just going to have a sticky-beak at what's going on over there."
= (noun) a nosey person eg "My mum is such a sticky-beak".

I believe it comes from the fact that we have a lot of birds in Aus, most of which are highly intelligent, and like to investigate things. They stick their beak into things they are interested in. Although it could be an English or Irish expression too, that we just stole.

message 89: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I finished my book and I have a draft of my song. I hope I can improve on it tomorrow. I'm going to see if I can't draft a family member to sing it.

message 90: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments We use sticky beak here in the UK too. used for people being nosy.

I've written my lyrics and will post when I'm on my laptop - I'd be here all day doing it on this kindle keyboard. I'm not going to sing mine.

Starting another book now but not sure whether I'll finish or not.

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Rusalka I am so stealing " sticky beak" that way I can call people nosy and they will have no idea how snarky I'm being!

Still have 1/3 of my book left but it is reading very fast so I should be fine.

*I'm in to idiomatic expressions*

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I love "sticky beak" and like Marnie will have to sneak it into my own vocabulary. I think this may have to go into the YLTO glossary, too. : )

I finished Blue Diary, and I am working on lyrics based on the song "Blue Moon." Hopefully, I'll get something slung together.

I love all the songs everyone is submitting! : )

I never even gave CCR a thought, but it probably would have worked. Still, I managed to get my wizarding wizard, and the "werewolves in love" lines from the book into my song.

Butcher is quite poetic! "The moon rose in silver splendor into an October sky, strewn with pale clouds and brilliant stars."

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments I chose my song for Bel Canto<\i>, which will be Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind?<\i> by The Loving Spoonful. FYI John Sebastian lived in my hometown when the band was popular, and his brother went to high school with me.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Just maybe read the first couple of books in print format, unless you don't mind listening to a narrator sighing, slurping, swallowing, and making other noises. It almost sounded like he was chewing gum at one point. People have promised me that the recordings do get better.
