Alex | 4 comments Being a member of this community typically means I love to read and travel. The latter one no matter how hard you budget will add up to a pretty penny. Books can also eventually add up. I am curious to how you all get your books. Do you go to the library or the bookstore or use ebooks or a combination of all? Thanks!

Ashley W (ashleeeyyy88) Generally, I'm sticking to ebooks because of the convenience but I use a combination of the Kobo website to buy and the Overdrive app through my local library. It's not uncommon for me to browse around in an actual bookstore looking for ideas of books to get online.

Laura | 4 comments I would prefer a combination of both library and a bookstore but predominantly a library.
Why I take to libraries is because here the books are mainly circulated and a lot of paper is saved. Or library is just a place where you could glance at various types of printed media rather than buying it.
But bookstores are good for books you want to buy for keepsakes for examples perhaps you would want to buy your favorite books. there are some books you would want to come back to again and again and some good reference books should find a place on your bookshelf for emergencies!.

Diane | 13052 comments I try to use a combination of both. Unfortunately, I find fewer of the type of books I like to read at my local library. Most of my purchased books are used books or significantly marked down. I rarely buy new or full-priced books. I also purchase a lot of e-reader books (rarely above $3.99). I also acquire many of my books through book trading websites.

Alex | 4 comments At the moment, I buy my books. I love having my own books to come back to when I feel like it and plus I have a bad tendency of turning the books in late at the library and losing them. However, buying the books are starting to take up a lot of space and money. I could use ebooks, but I like the actual feel of a book and do not like looking at the screen for hours at a time.

Sarah | 662 comments Both baby. Overdrive app through my local library - free audio books which can be expensive, and free ebooks - now I have this app I am saving lots of money. But I love to buy books too, like Diane - used or on sale or Amazon ebooks. Anywhere I can get them. But my actual bookshelf and Kindle library has become quite unread and overcrowded. So I have a lot of catching up to do. One I never plan to accomplish in my lifetime.

I get a few books from the library and also movies that I want to see but don't want to buy. I like looking through the Friends of the Library used book section and oftentimes find good deals. I also buy books from Amazon.

Hannah (beary_hannah) | 72 comments I find most of my books at a library. I typically use the university library and my local parish/county library. Since I move a lot, I don't see the need to keep books. Packing those up and moving them can be a pain.

I think the Overdrive website is my favorite book website. Even though my library doesn't have what's in my "to-read" pile, I've still found some really great books there just by browsing.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I purchase in person at a new or used bookstore here in town (sometimes at thrift stores), or order offline from Amazon for brand new, abebooks for used

I grab up free kindle books every few days in mystery and Christian fiction and non-fiction genres. I buy my books at a library bookstore for under a dollar so have a fairly extensive home library built up. I also read using Overdrive for my kindle. I prefer a real book but like the ability to post simultaneous reviews with my kindle. I collect the old Penguin paperbacks when I can find them. I just love those old orange and green covers.

Annina I use library most of the time. Cause I mainly read classics there's no lines either.

I have couple books on my own shelf as well, but I rarely buy all new books. Only from sales.
Most of them are from shops like antiquarian bookshops.
Those are for my traveling books, cause I don't want to take anything from library with me, when I'm going outside the country.

Camille Dent (thecamillion) | 12 comments I usually buy physical copies. That being said, I've only paid full price for less than 1/5 of my books. I always hit up the bargain and clearance sections of the chain book stores, and I am a regular at the used book store in my area!

Plus, I love having a used book that is in great condition but has underlining or notes already written in it :)

BookScorpion (thebookscorpion) | 48 comments I only buy a couple of books each year. I'm so happy the library exist, wouldn't be able to read as much as I do otherwise. My mum loves to read so I've spent a lot of time as a child at the library, it's like a magical second home to me. I love coming home with a big bag of books.

Rachel Mills | 7 comments Libraries are my main go-to place. I honestly can't praise them enough!! I go to their adult outreach programs (like a Banned Books Pub Quiz). I also utilize them for for all non-fiction items like cook books, how-to's, etc., and magazines like Real Simple and Bookmarks. I would say that I use the library for about 60% of the novels I read (especially new ones that I don't want to pay high prices for) or I buy them used. I only buy new books when it is hard to find non-fiction like a new favorite, Garbology.

message 15: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessica_peter) The large majority from the library. I can't afford the books I read in a year!

I've also found e-books a huge boon when travelling, and have used my library borrowing for that too, though in general I prefer paper books.

message 16: by Minna (new)

Minna | 1 comments I very much prefer paper books, but since I am moving between various European countries on a frequent basis, it becomes a bit difficult to carry them all around with me. On top of that many of the books I'd like to read are not available in my countries of residence (because the local bookstores do not sell books written in English, much less the local library, which also offers Ebooks).
Because of all this I have to buy eBooks.

message 17: by Sam (new)

Sam (aramsamsam) Too bad, Nella! I hate it when I have to settle with an edition I don't like. Not being able to have paper books would make me sad.

message 18: by Melissa Hoyle (new)

Melissa Hoyle | 40 comments I honestly love buying books. My local library has a terrible selection and I never return them on time. I love having a huge selection of books to choose from at any time. I like to make notes and underline significant passages sometimes, things that I can't do with a library copy. I'm lucky enough to own a very small home, but it gives me enough space to house my collection. I can't imagine a home without books in it!

message 19: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda Lee Wunder | 143 comments I am definitely a book shopaholic even though the library sometimes gives good deals. I found a couple of books in the Friends of the Library section tonight. I have also been planning to read The Martian by Andy Weir which is our book club selection for April. Well, I went to the librarian to put my name on the list and she said it was my lucky day. They have a program on popular books that they put a lucky day sticker on and if by chance you ask for it then you can check it out. I guess if the book has that sticker it can't be put on hold.

Anfenwick (anne-fenwick) | 26 comments My local library is fantastic so I do use it quite a lot. It depends whether I'm just browsing or looking for something in particular. For specific books I often end up buying, and if the author is living and not yet a celebrity, I'll try to make a point of doing so.

message 21: by Ozma (new)

Ozma Bond | 2 comments I have the best of both worlds, libraries for books on cd which I love for driving but don't buy because they are too expensive, and I work part time in a bookshop so I can take out the newest books and read them. That perk is what has kept me working in bookshops (independent and chains) my whole adult life, we also get ARCs (Advance Reader Copies) and that is exciting, I have found a lot of new authors through the ARCs. Some publishers are more generous with arcs than others.. for a committed reader, bookshops are the best. People love the printed format, even teens, they like the physical book, reading onscreen feels too much like school! Barnes and Noble has weathered the digital storms well, by going into publishing, by having an electronic option, by having a bargain section, and by loyal readers who appreciate their local bookshop. A new novel is becoming more of a luxury item, at 28-35 $ a pop, but for those who can afford it, having a personal library is so great…. Independent bookshops are coming back, that is of course the best of all worlds, but expensive to run and not big profit makers. If you love to read, you can always find a way to fund your habit!

Jeannine K Lockwood | 12 comments Both. I gravitate to any place there are books. Currently I volunteer at The Friends of the Benson Library. I love being in a huge collection of books, and talking to book lovers.

message 23: by Allie (new)

Allie | 3 comments I would say bookstore. I love libraries, but I love owning my books so I can go back to them for references or lines and passages that I've underlined or bracketed. It's also fun to see my bookcase fill up with my ever-growing collection!

message 24: by Chrisi (new)

Chrisi | 3 comments For me it's rather the bookstore because the library in my village (in austria) doesn't offer books in the english language. But before my interest changed to reading the original version of books, I borrowed stuff there sometimes. It kind of sucks to have to actually buy everything you want to read because there's too many good books out there, but on the other hand I really love owning them and seeing them in my bookshelf (and of course, being able to reread them any time).
