Task 15.6 is a cover tasks and, like all cover tasks, requires that you include the book cover in your post.

Task 25.3 requires that you include the question, not just a number, with your answer.

Task 25.3 requires a book with a one or two word title for option A. (Clever answer, though....😉)

Task 20.1 limits you to the number of letters available in the standard English-language edition of Scrabble. There are only 2 H tiles available. The Night the Lights Went Out has 4 Hs in the title.

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11204 comments KATRINAT - post 669

Task 5.9 requires a book with a 3+ letter word in the title/subtitle that can be made from the letters on the Boggle board. You've identified the word you're using as AND. However, there is no "and" in the title Then She Was Gone. If you were using a different word, please identify it when you repost.

Task 25.1, book 1 requires a book in which none of the letters in SUMO are in the author's name. Dan Brown has an O in his name.

Task 30.6, option 1 -- I'm not getting the same TinEye results that you've listed. When I use the cover on the main page of the book you listed, Hopeless Magic, I get 49.2% violet:

#ede4e8 50.3 %Whisper (Grey)
#d3bdc9 48.1 %Twilight (Violet)
#c8b0e3 1.1 %Melrose (Violet)
#ca5b64 0.2 %Indian Red (Red)
#e1a2a6 0.2 %Pale Chestnut (Pink)

Are you sure you're using the picture on the main page, as-is? And have you linked to the correct edition?

Task 15.10 - Directions for using TinEye can be found in post 2 of the help thread. The TinEye results for Warcross (Warcross, #1) by Marie Lu are:

#e8e8ea 72.0 %White Lilac (Blue)
#739ec9 8.7 %Glacier (Blue)
#719f8c 5.3 %Acapulco (Green)
#74559b 4.7 %Studio (Violet)
#7d4f66 4.5 %Cosmic (Violet)
#9f4e3a 2.2 %Cognac (Red)
#6c6fe6 1.1 %Medium Slate Blue (Blue)
#b5e8a1 0.5 %Madang (Green)
#d39e49 0.4 %Fire Bush (Yellow)
#c15773 0.4 %Cabaret (Red)

The color of interest, in this case white, must be found in parentheses after the color, not in the color name.

Big Book ticket -- Did you read the Polish edition of Moja Jane Eyre? That's the only edition of My Plain Jane that's over 500 pages. You can only claim BB tickets for the edition you read (or, if reading ebook/audiobook, you must state that that's the case, then link to print edition for page # verification as laid out in the rules of the challenge).

I just reposted.

I'd like to clarify, however, as I almost always read the audiobook and this has never come up before. I checked and rechecked the rules and the posting guidelines, and I can't find where it says that you must say that you read the audiobook version. All it says is that IF you read the audiobook (or ebook), you must link to the MMP or Paperback (with the appropriate sorting), which I always do.

For example:
"If you are claiming a BB ticket, you must include the number of pages in the book. Be sure that the link you provide goes to the edition you actually read, with the correct number of pages. If you used an ebook or an audiobook, include a link to the paper edition used to establish length."

"When determining page count, you should go by the copy you read- EXCEPT as noted below for ebooks, audiobooks, and large print books. [...] If you read an ebook, or audiobook use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition."

"Audiobooks may be used for SRC tasks. Page numbers should be counted as described for ebooks above. Audiobooks that do not have a written word equivalent, either published in paper or digitally, may NOT be used for SRC tasks.
Audiobooks that are noted as being “abridged” may be used to meet the general 100+ page book requirement as long as they are at least 2 hours in length. Abridged audiobooks may NOT be used for tasks with defined longer page requirements as there are no direct print equivalents."

Can you please clarify? I've never had it questioned before and I want to make sure I change my posting going forward if that's the case.

It's here, under the rules for claiming Big Book Tickets: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS > Golden Oldies and Big Book Tickets --** If you used an ebook or an audiobook be sure that the link you provide goes to the edition you actually read. You must also include a link to the paper edition used to establish length. See the current challenge rules for the method to determine page numbers.

The reason for that rule is to cut down on the confusion (like mine, last night... 🤔). In you post, you had the title in English, but when I clicked on the link I got the Polish edition. So that made me wonder... Did you read it in Polish or did you mistakenly choose the Polish edition. Then, since the Polish edition is the only one over 500 pages, I wondered if you linked to it just to get a Big Book ticket. Then, I checked to see if it might be the top PB edition and, it was. So, I wondered if you read the ebook or listened to the audiobook.....

See what I mean? Confusing. And, time consuming when there are hundreds of posts to verify. So, it's easiest for us if you link to the edition you read (or listened to) and link to the paper edition used to establish page length. That way, it's really, really clear to me what you're doing and why you're claiming the Polish language edition for a Big Book ticket and I don't have to think too hard late at night.... 😉

Task 10.4 requires a book written by an author whose first and last name initials are found in MICKEY MOUSE. There is no V in the phrase, so the author Suzanne Vermeer will not work.

message 82: by Kristina Simon (new)

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11204 comments Kayla C - post 897

Task 15.4 requires a book that has the name of a face card (King) in the author's name AND a book that is #2-#10 in a series OR one book that fits both options. While Sleeping Beauties works because it was written by Stephen King, it is not, according to GRs, part of a series. So, you'll either need to pair this book with a series book or leave it where it is. For now, I've left it slotting into task 10.10.

Oh, I see, so this is only a rule for GO and BB, not necessarily for every task. If I keep posting as usual for tasks that don't claim a BB ticket, is that fine? Again, I just want to make sure I'm posting correctly.

Including a note that says something to the effect of "I listened to the audiobook (or read the Kindle edition), but have linked to the MMPB (or PB or HB, as the case may be)" would help eliminate future confusion, especially if the print version is in a different language.

Task 15.3 requires a title of at least 3 words. We treat hyphenated words as one word. Therefore, Hardcore Twenty-Four has only 2 words in the title.

message 99: by Kristina Simon (new)

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11204 comments M1nks - post 1068

Task 15.7 requires specific numbers to be in the page count. We never use Kindle, ebook, or audiobooks to determine page count, for any reason. Using the procedure for determining page count outlined in the rules, the top MMPB edition result for Lonesome Road is Le Chemin de la falaise, which has 216 pages. Since task 15.7 requires the number of pages to be made up only of the numbers 0, 2, 5, and 8, this book won't work for this task.

Using the edition you've linked to and the directions on how to use TinEye in post 2 of task 15.10's help thread, these are the TinEye results:

Using the (correct) main page cover picture (as-is) with the "exclude background color from extracted colors" box unchecked:
#fbd039 49.6 %Sunglow (Yellow)
#7f1a11 33.4 %Falu Red (Red)
#c0b251 5.2 %Sundance (Brown)
#d9a947 3.1 %Tulip Tree (Yellow)
#828547 2.7 %Wasabi (Green)
#335542 2.3 %Goblin (Green)
#14484e 1.6 %Cyprus (Green)
#6a5e3d 0.7 %Verdigris (Green)
#231f22 0.7 %Nero (Black)
#9c736d 0.6 %Hemp (Brown)

Red makes up only 33.4% of the cover, not the required 50%. I get the same results you posted when you claimed the book if I left the "exclude background color from extracted colors" box checked.
