Just finished a non-cozy mystery, that is a wonderful book and I highly recommend - A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolff
When I am not reading cozies, I do enjoy foodie books. Also reading Dearie, the Remarkable Life of Julia Child. Wonderfully written and engaging.
I'll second that on A Vintage Affair Craftnut, that was the book that spun me off into cozy read territory actually. Cause I not only fell in love with the story from Vintage, I fell in love with the character's passion for vintage fashion. Which amazed me cause I'm in no way a girlie girl that is into purses or anything like that. But the character's passion for her business was so beautiful to me. And so I was a woman possessed trying to find more stories with characters that had a passion for something that much. Amazed me I found that passion and interest in different things I didn't normally seem interested in, in cozy book land. :)
Dhfan4life, I loved the descriptions of vintage clothing too. I am a thrift store rat, scored a lot of really nice things, and I love consignment stores. I'd really like to visit that one!! If only it wasn't fictional, LOL!!

Especially to see those prom dresses. Heck even be in her fashion show. Always so interesting to see other vintage styles than the usual flapper type of stuff they pull out during Halloween.
I am reading The Luminaries, which isn't enthralling me as I had hoped. It is well written but just a tad boring...

Great story concepts but the high handed tone at times and other things really start boring me after a while.

I loved it! I checked this out from the library yesterday and read the whole thing last night. Unfortunately they don't have the others, but I am ordering them soon!
Last book I read was just plain depressing so I've now turned to a classic which should be a much easier read, A Little Princess.

It is the second of a series. The Yard is the first of the series. It's very suspenseful and gripping.
Quarter of the way through
The Cuckoo's Calling. So far, slow-ish pace, but the London descriptions are spot on so far...

I just started The Goldfinch today. I am going in planning not to like it but I hope to be pleasantly surprised. I really like the story so far, but it is excessively descriptive. I find myself forcing myself not to skip really long passages to get on with the story.
Heidi (Yup. Still here.) wrote: "I loved this one. It is excellent on audiobook."Oo, might look into audiobook for the second one then. Did you like The Silkworm as much?
I liked Silkworm just as much J.A. They both have the same narrator. He does a great job and really bring Strike to life IMO.

Love a good audiobook for a long car ride! =) Listening to Agatha Christie's autobiography at the moment.
I read a lot of historical fiction, biographies, and memoirs. Right now, I'm reading Dreaming the Eagle.
Over the weekend I finished Free Fall by Jill Shalvis, Button Holed by Kylie Logan, and started Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding.
I'm currently in the middle of both Love and Freindship: And Other Youthful Writings by Jane Austen and Dawn of the Belle époque: The Paris of Monet, Zola, Bernhardt, Eiffel, Debussy, Clemenceau, and Their Friends by Mary McAuliffe. Jane Austen's juvenilia reads a LOT like Monty Python skits, and snarky.
Dawn of the Belle Epoque is really great; the author's narrative makes it very easy to become immersed in what's going on; not at all dry or academic.
I am reading UndercityUndercity by Catherine Asara, the start of a new scifi PI series set in her Skolian Empire universe. I like the strong female lead character and will look forward to more installments in this series.
A little bit into The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary
. Enjoying it so far.

I'm currently on two books right now. One on my kindle, the other is a regular book.
by Jennifer Lopez (Kindle-Library Book)
by Laura Lee Hope (Regular Book)
I'm reading Od Magic by Patricia A. McKillip. It's very captivating. It's been a while since I read a book I got utterly lost in . . .this is that kind of book.
I'm still reading Alias Grace, which now feels like it's going on forever. There's almost too much detail, as Grace recalls her story with excruciating detail.
I finished The Bookshop Book and An Exaltation of Larks: The Ultimate Edition yesterday. Both were good, but the Bookshop Book was my favorite of the two.
Yesterday I started reading American Gods
by Neil Gaiman, continued listening to The Goldfinch
by Donna Tartt, and finished reading Landline
by Rainbow Rowell.
Heidi (Yup. Still here.) wrote: "I really enjoyed Landline"I was disappointed. I really loved Fangirl, so this was a letdown.
I just finished Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine and started When You Look Like Your Passport Photo, It's Time to Go Home by Erma Bombeck.
Teresa wrote: "I just finished Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine and started When You Look Like Your Passport Photo, It's Time to Go Home by Erma Bombeck."My mom was a HUGE Erma Bombeck fan. She wrote a column for years for the Dayton Daily News back home and mom always read it and saved lots of them. When she became a big time author she bought each new book when it came out. It was so sad that Erma died so young.
Today I continued reading The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft
as well as The Boat of A Million Years
by Poul Anderson.I've also been listening to Firestorm
by Nevada Barr
I'm close to half ways through Five Weeks in a Balloon (really becoming a huge fan of Jules Verne) and I just downloaded Orphan Train from the library website (actually Amazon).
I started and FINISHED listening to Blindsighted
by Karin Slaughter yesterday. I just could not stop! So intense! Loved it!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
