If you like the Dan Brown books, you might want to check out Steve Berry's Cotton Malone adventure/mystery series. There are 13 so far, and he has also written four really good standalone books. He blends historical fact with mythology, politics and religion in fast-paced action spanning the globe.
Yesterday, I started (and finished) reading The Race Of Scorpions
by James Goss. It was a really good mystery (but short - only 66 pages) set in Ancient Egypt in the reign of Akhenaten (King Tut's dad!)https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I also continued reading Middlemarch
by George Eliot and continued listening to Portobello
by Ruth Rendell

The Lincoln Myth. Just seemed to be missing something!
Naomi wrote: "If you like the Dan Brown books, you might want to check out Steve Berry's Cotton Malone adventure/mystery series. As I recall past history was mentioned a few times more or less to explain current events. Anyway, it was good.
Carol wrote: "I'm reading "W Is For Wasted" by Sue Grafton. I've read them all, from "A Is For Alibi" up to this one. She just get better and better!"I usually like her books but this book to me wasn't up to her standard. I did like how everything was tied in at the end even though it did seem a bit much. Could be she was a little too wordy in the book.
Yesterday, I listened to "A Christmas Tree" from Christmas Short Stories
by Charles Dickens.I also continued reading Island of Vice: Theodore Roosevelt's Doomed Quest to Clean up Sin-loving New York
by Richard Zacks
I just finished "Murder the Tey Way" by Marilyn Levinson. It was quite good with lots of twists and turns.
Murder the Tey Way
I finished reading The Shining Girls
by Lauren Beukes. I really liked it. I loved the character of Kirby and the story was quite original.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I also continued listening to Portobello
by Ruth Rendell and started reading Revival
by Stephen King
I'm about to get started on the 2nd book in the 'His Dark Materials' series by Philip Pullman, The Subtle Knife.
I just finished reading four cozies,so I thought I would read something else for a change of pace. I am reading Magic Found
and Hope Crossing by Cindy Woodsmall.
If Kennedy Lived: The First and Second Terms of President John F. Kennedy: An Alternate History
I saw this at the library and thought it might be interesting. I'm starting it tonight.
Right now I'm finishing Camp Sunshine. Historical novel set in the Florida panhandle during WWII. Can't vouch for the accuracy, but Iit's holding my interest.
An Island Christmas
this was cute and fastWinter Street
loved it I am sure if I want a full series out of it, but another book would work out great. These two books finish my Christmas books for the year
After finishing Hercule Poirot's Christmas, I did a lot of non-cozy reading over the long holiday weekend, mostly a bunch of short stories/novellas:
Christmas in High Heels by Gemma Halliday
Christmas Truce by Aaron Shepherd
The Christmas Violin by Buffy Andrews
How the In-Laws Wrecked Christmas by Fiona Gibson
Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales **
** I started this free ebook as I wanted to reread "The Snow Queen," a childhood favorite and basis for the movie Frozen. Once I finished that, I started from the beginning and read the rest of the stories in this collection. I have another ebook collection of his stories that includes stories in this edition, as well as many more. I may read those later in the year, as it ticks off one of the criteria for the Ultimate Reading Challenge (short story collection).

I'm reading Dune since I have 3 more in the series and I suspect we will be waiting a while yet for the next book in the Song of Ice and Fire. So I guess this is my next big series commitment.
Yesterday, I finished reading The Private Patient
by P.D. James https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and The Strange Case of the Mad Professor: A True Tale of Endangered Species, Illegal Drugs, and Attempted Murder
by Peter Kobel https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...I also started reading MaddAddam
by Margaret Atwood and continued reading Island of Vice: Theodore Roosevelt's Doomed Quest to Clean up Sin-loving New York
by Richard Zacks
I'm nearly finished Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan. This award-winning novel (I'll review in a few days) switches between 1939/40 and 1992 from the point of view of a bass player named Sid. Sid was part of a jazz band caught up in politics and social tension and war while living and playing in Berlin. The voices are strong and compelling, the story unforgettable.

For months, I've had a Christian historical fiction,
Puritans, by Jack Cavanaugh, on my reading list. And finally getting into it, the book is well written and certainly a great read for lovers of this genre. This is the first of a series, I think.
Kait wrote: "Kirsten wrote: "Yesterday, I finished reading The Private Patient

Yesterday, I continued listening to Portobello

by Lisa Jackson, and finished reading Revival

I picked up Welcome to the World, Baby Girl!
Fannie Flagg at the library last week. I'm 80 pages in, it's good but jumps around an awful lot.I do like her books that I have read before and of course this is another series, just what I need! Thank-you fictfact for keeping my series ironed out.
I don't know if anyone is interested in Australian YA, but if you want a good laugh... just read the reviews: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...

Kirsten wrote: "I don't know if anyone is interested in Australian YA, but if you want a good laugh... just read the reviews: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7......"I am normally a huge fan of YA Aussie authors but this one was a little "meh' for me. Just ok. I actually found it on a list of YA Aussie author books because I love them so much. Melina Marchetta is my writing idol!
I've been reading The Magpies by Mark Edwards as part of the Book Pals program at the A Good Thriller group.I've also been reading We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler
❂ Jennifer (reviews on BookLikes) wrote: "I'm in the middle of 84, Charing Cross Road and I'm absolutely loving it."The movie was wonderful too. One of my favorite books.
I'm reading and ARC Hausfrau: A Novel, just started it really but it's holding my interest.
Usually I switch to non-fiction when not reading cozies. Sometimes paranormal by Kelley Armstrong or Kim Harrison.
I've started to reread Nick Davies 'Hack Attack' about the News of the world hacking scandal. Detailed, interesting, reads like a real life detective novel. I would highly recommend :).
I am reading "The Mystery at Lilac Inn" by Carolyn Keene. This is Book #4 in the Nancy Drew Mystery Series.

Those first couple reviews are hysterical. I saw this book a few months ago, when I was looking for Aussie writers and it does sound good.
I've just picked up an older romance by Jill Shalvis, Free Fall. Here's hoping for a much faster read than The Lighthouse!

Heather have you read anything by Melina Marchetta or Markus Zusak?? Those are two of my top favorite YA Aussie authors.
