Despite how exhausted I was last night, I had difficulty sleeping, so decided to read. Although I am not yet done with Lolita (I'm past the halfway mark), I could not concentrate on those long, meandering paragraph's of Nabokov's, so I started The Phantom of the Opera and am already a quarter done. Who can resist a classic ghost story at this time of year? One thing that surprised me is how readable Leroux's style of writing is -- I have found myself simply flying through the chapters. The only downside? I haven't been able to get Think of Me out of my head all day. :-?

I am VERY ambivalent about that book!

I've never seen the musical, and have vague recollections of scenes from the movie from when I was a kid. Would love to see the old B&W movie version now -- which will be shown here in town in a couple weeks, but doubt I'll be able to attend.
The book is a real page-turner. I was reading it during the football game today, and probably would have finished had our team not been so awesome this week. I'm only about 40-50 pages from the end, so you know what I'll be finishing before I go to bed tonight.

Exactly the reason I didn't read it, and avoid other books, too. When they leave a bad in your mouth....

If you like English historical fiction this may be for you. One oddity: it does not mention at all Richard being a humpback, which was legendary. Again, the age old question of who killed the boy princes, Elizabeth's brothers.

Do you mean the Tudor Rose? If so it's here: The Tudor Rose.

I never caught that spelling error until now! Thank you.
But, it is interesting when I pulled up the author, this book war not there.

I'm catching up on the Lena Jones books. Just finished the 3rd one a week or so ago. Had been some years since I read DESERT WIVES, the 2nd one.

Season Of The Harvest

I don't like books with a lot of swearing in it either. I thought about picking it up because of the movie...And I wanted to see the movie only because Tyler Perry was in it! lol...I might just stick to watching the movie....:-)

This is my first desert book, but I am enjoying it. I plan on reading the rest.

You've got some good reading ahead of you.

It is an amazing story, based on real people, fighting slavery before the civil war.

I have thought about doing that myself. I wonder if the series is on audio book because that is my preferred format.
I finally - FINALLY! - finished Lolita last night. A little slow and plodding in parts but overall pretty good and not quite what I expected. Now if only I could find the energy and interest to go back and finish Emma, which I had set aside at the halfway point. I hate not finishing, but can't seem to get into it.

Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

All of the first Ian Rutledge mysteries - about 8 or so - were gobbled up by me... including The Red Door. Later I was among those who got frustrated because Rutledge's recovery seemed to drag, and the stories got bogged down. I haven't read the last one or two, because other readers told me they also had this opinion.
I've enjoyed the Bess Crawford series, too.
