There is a new Miss Julia out and I haven't read it! What a nice reminder gift for Christmas. It won't be about Christmas but it will be a gift to myself.

Biggest problem I'm having is with the character's names. This story is placed in Finland.

Started another Christmas romance this evening, a slightly older one plucked from Mount TBR -- More Naughty Than Nice by Julie Kistler.

(ARGH! Anyone else having trouble with the add book/author function not working again? I swear this is becoming a monthly issue for GR. *insert perturbed look here*)

Read yesterday: The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde.

Started yesterday: The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann. I'm not linking to the edition I have, as the title/author info is wrong. Yeah, they show the correct book, and there are tons of comments, but the title/author listed for it are WRONG.

If one of our group librarians can help out on this, this is the book page. Correct title: The Unsung Hero (Troubleshooters #1) / Correct author: Suzanne Brockmann / Pages: 392. Thanks in advance...

Hi Nancy! This one is about Tom/Kelly and his uncle Joe/her dad Charlie. I have the first four books of this series to read in Mount TBR, and a friend has all of the series to borrow. Figured it was past time I try to catch up on this series!

message 3618: by Vickie (new)

Vickie Britton | 26 comments I also like to read suspense, light thriller, and romantic suspense. Just finished Still Watching by Chevy Stevens. I like books with a gothic feel such as the ones where a woman is in jeopardy. I grew up on them and that's probably why I still enjoy reading them. Many of the books I pick to read are psychological mysteries--I like to know whodunit and whydunit.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished listening to I'm Dreaming of an Undead Christmas - a freebie short (~4 hours) audio book on Audible. I love Molly Harper and her narrator does an excellent job, so this was a great one to listen to.

Finished The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann, really liked this one. Have now started another rom-suspence, Untraceable by Laura Griffin. Yes, I'm trying to get this last "U" book in by Saturday. Of course, with the weather moving in, it's not likely I'll want to do anything but stay in and read.

Finished reading ONE MAGICAL CHRISTMAS this morning, an okay read. It was kind of funny -- I was talking to a friend Thursday night, and mentioned that I had started reading this one. She laughed and said that's what she was reading. Turns out I was only two pages ahead of her, too! :-D

message 3637: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (sevenmoonlight) | 138 comments I usually will read other mysteries or suspense/thrillers. I like Jeffrey Devers, David Baldacci, and Daniel Silva, but lately I have surprised myself by getting into Urban Fantasy. At first it was just Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series that I devoured, then I discovered Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson and have been hooked on those. I wasn't as impressed with the usual Anita Blake or Charlain Harris works. Any other Kate or Mercy fans?

Bridget's Quiet Corner (chaptersandscreens) I couldn't get into the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlain(e?) Harris....I was beginning to think I was the only one who had tried to read them but couldn't get into them..it took me a long time to get into the show but once I did, I loved it...It can be a bit much on the sex and nudity but beyond that, the storyline I like a lot. I haven't read any of the others. I think I tried Anita Blake, but couldn't get into hers either. :-)

Bridget, my first Sookie book, I was so dis-interested that I skipped to the end to see who the murderer was and vowed never to read another. I have no interest in the show either. You are not alone in being a non-fan of Sookie.

Marisa, I have shied away from the Alpha and Omega series since I am not a romance reader. I don't mind romance as a part of the novel like in Mercy Thompson books - but not as the main storyline. Although the Alpha and Omega book 1 sounds interesting.

Jamie Lynn, Bram Stoker's Dracula was originally written in 1897 so the writing style is a bit dated. But it is a classic. You might like The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova for a similar feel as the original Dracula but written in 2005.

Love the Mercy Thompson books. I loved the Sookie books, except for the last one. Loved the Anita Blake books for a long time and then they got to be about nothing but the "ardeur". BORING, BORING, BORING!! Nothing but VERY badly written erotica, and stories that were just about impossible to find.

The Alpha & Omega books are definitely not romances, though I believe the short story that started the series was published in a romance short story book. I don't like romances either. The Alpha & Omega books are nearly as good as the Mercy books.

Yep - I agree with all of this. Heather and Melodie prodded me to read the Mercy series and I loved them. Then picked up the A&O series and liked them almost as much.
