When you're not reading a cozy....
I'm reading a Nordic mystery Chilled to the Bone,
.Biggest problem I'm having is with the character's names. This story is placed in Finland.
I have been on a streak of reading police procedurals lately & am currently reading the first book in the Jack Frost series, Frost At Christmas,
.
Started another Christmas romance this evening, a slightly older one plucked from Mount TBR -- More Naughty Than Nice by Julie Kistler.
(ARGH! Anyone else having trouble with the add book/author function not working again? I swear this is becoming a monthly issue for GR. *insert perturbed look here*)

Finishing my book club series..on book #6Warsaw Requiem...learning a lot about that preWWII history.
The author has me hooked!
I"ve been busy reading Christmas themed books
and I still have a bunch in my TBR hoilday stack. I watch book sales all year round for holiday books and stock pile them for this time of year ;-)
Read yesterday: The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde.
Started yesterday: The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann. I'm not linking to the edition I have, as the title/author info is wrong. Yeah, they show the correct book, and there are tons of comments, but the title/author listed for it are WRONG.
If one of our group librarians can help out on this, this is the book page. Correct title: The Unsung Hero (Troubleshooters #1) / Correct author: Suzanne Brockmann / Pages: 392. Thanks in advance...

Fixed. This is one of the weirdest problem I saw in here.

You are welcome.
You are welcome.
Love The Unsung Hero. I think that's John's love story..the car escape scene stays vividly in my memory ! :)
Hi Nancy! This one is about Tom/Kelly and his uncle Joe/her dad Charlie. I have the first four books of this series to read in Mount TBR, and a friend has all of the series to borrow. Figured it was past time I try to catch up on this series!
I'm reading Gail Carriger's Blameless. This is the third in the Parasol Protectorate series. I love these books- they're imaginative and witty and great fun to read.
I'm reading The View from Casa Chepitos: A Journey Beyond the Border which I won as a FirstReads. It's a memoir and so far interesting. The author falls in love with a house in Mexico and her family divides their time between Mexico and Seattle.
I also like to read suspense, light thriller, and romantic suspense. Just finished Still Watching by Chevy Stevens. I like books with a gothic feel such as the ones where a woman is in jeopardy. I grew up on them and that's probably why I still enjoy reading them. Many of the books I pick to read are psychological mysteries--I like to know whodunit and whydunit.
Just finished listening to I'm Dreaming of an Undead Christmas - a freebie short (~4 hours) audio book on Audible. I love Molly Harper and her narrator does an excellent job, so this was a great one to listen to.
Heather L ~ It is The Defiant Hero that I liked so well. That book grabbed me from the beginning & didn't let me go! She sure can write ! Hope you enjoy them as much as I did :)
That's the sort of book I like too Vickie. Have you read Norah Roberts - I'm sure you must have. One of hers I liked the best was Angels Fall - a great read. What was Still Watching like? Good and worth reading or average?

Ah, that would be book two. I hope to get to that one in January or February.

I am reading "Sachem's Daughter - The White Indian Series - Book #21 by Donald Clayton Porter. I love this series...I have read most of the books in this series.
If you like YA books and want and nice holiday read, I am nearly done with Bittersweet
and am enjoying it more than I expected.

Finished The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann, really liked this one. Have now started another rom-suspence, Untraceable by Laura Griffin. Yes, I'm trying to get this last "U" book in by Saturday. Of course, with the weather moving in, it's not likely I'll want to do anything but stay in and read.

Currently reading Burial Rites by Hannah Kent since it was recommended by librarians participating in LibraryReads. Creepy and dark
I enjoy thrillers, legal thrillers, horror, sci-fi, historical novels, and occasionally fantasy. My favorite authors include James Patterson, Harlan Coben, Jeffery Deaver, John Sandford, Steppphen King, and Dean Koontz.
Yesterday I readThe Christmas Pearl
I am a DBF fan. This book was not her norm, but it was a really good short Christmas read, plus there is a recipe for "She Crab Soup" that I am going to try. I had is years ago in Charleston and loved it, but it's not something you find in central Pennsylvania...Merry Christmas to everyone!
Just finished A Wish for Christmas by Thomas Kinkade & Katherine Spencer. It was a slow read for me, but a good one.
I rated it 3.5 stars.
Liked the happy ending & Emily Dickinson quotes. (I'll have to read more E.D. !)
I just finished 'Jane Austen in Boca' by Paula Marantz Cohen
Three Jewish female friends enjoy life, find love, have a great friendship with lots of laughter and you can see the comparisons to 'Pride and Prejudice'. I enjoyed it very much.
Finished reading ONE MAGICAL CHRISTMAS this morning, an okay read. It was kind of funny -- I was talking to a friend Thursday night, and mentioned that I had started reading this one. She laughed and said that's what she was reading. Turns out I was only two pages ahead of her, too! :-D
I usually will read other mysteries or suspense/thrillers. I like Jeffrey Devers, David Baldacci, and Daniel Silva, but lately I have surprised myself by getting into Urban Fantasy. At first it was just Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series that I devoured, then I discovered Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson and have been hooked on those. I wasn't as impressed with the usual Anita Blake or Charlain Harris works. Any other Kate or Mercy fans?

Yes A. I'm really a fan of them. And not only Mercy, but Charles and Anna too (Alpha and Omega).
I couldn't get into the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlain(e?) Harris....I was beginning to think I was the only one who had tried to read them but couldn't get into them..it took me a long time to get into the show but once I did, I loved it...It can be a bit much on the sex and nudity but beyond that, the storyline I like a lot. I haven't read any of the others. I think I tried Anita Blake, but couldn't get into hers either. :-)

I have no interest in the show either. You are not alone in being a non-fan of Sookie.
Marisa wrote: "Yes A. I'm really a fan of them. I don't mind romance as a part of the novel like in Mercy Thompson books - but not as the main storyline. Although the Alpha and Omega book 1 sounds interesting.
I am starting my big fat book of 2014 a bit early - the library came through with the audiobook edition of War and Peace.I am also reading Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood...

You might like The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
for a similar feel as the original Dracula but written in 2005.

BORING, BORING, BORING!! Nothing but VERY badly written erotica, and stories that were just about impossible to find.

The Alpha & Omega books are definitely not romances, though I believe the short story that started the series was published in a romance short story book. I don't like romances either. The Alpha & Omega books are nearly as good as the Mercy books.

Yep - I agree with all of this. Heather and Melodie prodded me to read the Mercy series and I loved them. Then picked up the A&O series and liked them almost as much.

There is a new Miss Julia out and I haven't read it! What a nice reminder gift for Christmas. It won't be about Christmas but it will be a gift to myself.
