Thank you Shay for that suggestion. I will look into them. I since you vouch that they are not what is billed as "sexy" I am more likely to give them a try.
I love cozies as well but I like action books like Clive Cussler, other types of mysteries like Robert Crais ( more of a detective style) or even Jack HIggins.

. Very slow starter, and the narration is dry, even though the protagonist is very likeable. But the story got moving about 1/3 of the way through and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Have already ordered the second in the series.

Sorry Cindy that I took so long to reply. I think it's a great book-I really love it.

      I'm reading
by Neil Gaiman. It's prety good, but I'm not finding it as laugh out loud funny as Terry Pratchett was. There are still many, many funny moments though.

"I tried to get into that book twice because I know so many people who loved it, but I just couldn't get interested. Must be something with me, as I couldn't get into THE HELP either.
I'm reading Harlan Coben's Live Wire and finding it to be very enjoyable. Now I'll have to go back and catch up on the other nine books in the series that preceded it!

I sped right through it but sometimes it's just the way a particular book hits you, I think. I'm still trying to finish Middlesex, which is really a good book but for some reason I keep reaching for other books. I think I've read at least 3 or 4 other books while I'm still trying to finish Middlesex.

I love Coben's Myron Bolitar books, Beth! You've got some good ones in store for you. I don't care for his standalones so much, tho.
Does anyone read Tim Dorsey books? I think he's a riot. Serge A Storms- the serial killer that only kills the guys that deserve it? With his perpetually stoned sidekick, Coleman? I just read, "When Elves Attack" really funny with a Christmas spin...

I listened to both books (Water and The Help) on audio and both had excellent narrators which helped me get into them.

I loved Water for Elephants, but have not yet read The Help, though it has been recommended to me by several different people.

yesterday. My review:This merits a 5 as far as I did not want to put it down, but for believability a 3 so I gave it a 4. I read another of his books and gave it a 5, but after this one they get less believable and though I like that the book is clean, these are bought at Christian booksellers and I still do not know what they have to do with God more than many secular books and way more violent in many respects. I would recommend Brandilyn Collins for more of a great thrilling read. but Biblical based. I do really like the ending, but should have bought 2nd hand used instead of full price. The Jones-town angle made me want to study more on that subject and I did learn a cool fact on sharks from the book.

Have just started The Christmas Clock by Kat Martin, a holiday read picked up at the used book sale last Christmas.

I'm in the middle of A Simple Amish Christmas. Sweet and a bit predictable but still a nice pleasant read.

I just started Joan Didion's Blue Nights. The book definitely is going to resonate with the over fifty woman, but her definition of what a Blue Night is is magical for any age.

I hope you enjoy that one, Kaye. I read it a few years back, before the Cameron Diaz/Kate Winslet movie "The Holiday," and loved it. I see that it is now a Hallmark movie, under the title "Trading Christmas." I'll have to get a friend to record it for me, so I can see how it compares to the book.

I can't tell if I answered you or not so just in case: if you like Murakami, you'll certainly like this one. If you haven't read Murakami, this is probably not the best one with which to start (Kafka on the Shore or The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle might be better).

A quick enjoyable read, Heather. I'll have to look out for the movie.
I like to read the YAs before giving them to grandchildren. Latest was Land Of Mountains by Jinx Schwartz. Reminded me of Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn to tell you the truth. Except it's in the voice of a girl who turns 11. Very good read for most ages, I'd say. (Gave it to one turning 12.)

I'm coming to the end of Case Histories and have really enjoyed it. I saw the PBS production of it, so I knew the story but still enjoy the writing. It's serious but with occasional humor, and often touching. I recommend it.
