I hav THE PEACH KEEPER, but haven't read it yet. I didn't like A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES either, and I was sure I'd love it!

I've only had time to read about 40 pages in A Discovery of Witches and so far I like it. I haven't been able to start The Peach Keeper yet.

When I stop reading, I feel like I'm jarred out of the (book's) reality- it really does feel like you could live inside the pages of this book. It's so vivid that the "real" world doesn't feel as real as Murakami's world.

I'm in the minority here in that I really enjoyed Discovery of Witches. :)
I generally find myself reading "found" books - biographies or memoirs that are out of print or good "travel" books. I find that a good travel writer really knows how to make discoveries about a place make me feel like I want to go out and have adventures too.

I think there were a lot of people who really liked it Jennifer. I am not a huge paranormal fan in the first place and when you add the whole love at first sight kind of thing I shut down. I am pretty picky!
I finished
Troubled Bones which was quite good. I have started
India Black and the Widow of Windsor (a Madam of Espionage Mystery). So far I find it unique in concept.
I just finished
. I'm not sure whether it would be considered a cozy or not. It does have many of the characteristics of cozies: protagonist is not a professional crime fighter/solver; there isn't much gore; there's no actual sex. There is, however, some language that very straight-laced people might find objectionable, and the protagonist is the madam of a house of ill-repute. This is the second book in the series, and both of them were very good, and, even better, hilarious.
I'm reading
, and it's terrific. Extremely suspenseful, deliciously creepy. Wendy Corsi Staub is a favorite of mine, and she never disappoints.

Started The Night Strangers
yesterday but am not sure I'll finish it. Too much like Stephen King, I think. I live in a house we built in Vt and am familiar with the whole area in the book--not sure I'll ever go in the cellar again alone or into a herbalists garden and I'm not even that far into the book.....Really excellent writing just too much horror for me.
I just started The Night Circus. It feels awfully slow at the beginning to me, but I've heard enough good things that I'm going to try to hang in there.
Beth wrote: "I just started The Night Circus. It feels awfully slow at the beginning to me, but I've heard enough good things that I'm going to try to hang in there."Oh? I hope it gets better for you. I have that one on the shelf as well.
Katherine wrote: "Started The Night Strangers

It was a bit disturbing so I think you are correct in the Stephen King bit. As with all Chris Bohjalian's book there was a definite twist at the end. I don't think I will forget this book anytime soon.

When I'm not reading a mystery, I read a mix of memoir, biography, and general fiction. Last week, on a flight home from Santa Fe, I read Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver. Not only was it an excellent book in terms of its flow, it brought to life some of the images I had just seen in New Mexico. I recommend all of Kingsolver's works -

Sounds good! I added it to my TBR list. :)

on my Hold list for the Library. Looking forward to reading it.
My favorite was Garden Spells too The Peach Keeper is the last one I have to read by her. Have you seen this one yet / The Firefly Dance
it is by her and Phyllis Schieber, Kathryn Magendie and Augusta Trobaugh

I also recommend "Small Wonder" a collection of her essays. I also have a couple of her others on my "read ASAP shelf.

I recently read The Lacuna and while it was slow getting into, it was well worth it.
When I'm not reading a cozy mystery, I'm usually reading historical fiction, retold fairy tales, or urban fantasy. I'm currently reading The Watchtower by Lee Carroll.
I had read Scaramouche a while ago so I decided to go ahead and read Captain Blood. Much to my surprise I really enjoyed Scaramouche.
Finished
, the 3rd book in her HUSH, HUSH series. Wasn't crazy about the first book, but kept reading. This one was really good.

I have been told that only the first few Anita Blake books are worthwhile, but I have to admit I was not very impressed by the first one. I loved Hunger Games, am getting hooked on Dresden Files and so far I am enjoying the Kate Daniels series.

I love good erotica, but really hate bad porn that reads like Penthouse Forum!!

I don't do erotica really, at least book 1 of Anita Blake didn't have any. It is hard to find Urban Fantasy that isn't heavily "sexy". Perhaps that is why Dresden Files is more my style. So far the Kate Daniels books are more like Dresden.
Left The Night Strangers for awhile
and am reading A Bitter Truth
which is easy enough reading but has, what I consider, a very improbable premise. I keep saying to myself, this is ludicrous. Also reading Fragile
which is very slow getting to the point. Will probably finish one or the other today.
A.F. wrote: "Melodie wrote: "A.F. wrote: "I have been told that only the first few Anita Blake books are worthwhile, but I have to admit I was not very impressed by the first one. Then what Hamilton calls "the Ardeur" kicks in and the books just go to hell after that. I don't mind sex. I DO mind crappy writing and sex just for the sake of something to fill the pages!
Got The Bird Sisters today for Kindle from the library. Will have to put Captain Blood on hold for a bit. Still not making very much progress with Middlesex but I haven't really been in a reading mood for the last few days. I know, I know, none of you can imagine that happening! LOL
Starting Georgia's Kitchen today and babysitting my Granddaughter Bella until Tuesday so we shall see how much reading I get done! lol

I'm also a fan of romance - any genre will do. I tend to swap between mysteries and romances and have a pile of each at the side of my bed :)Shelley

Ooh, good to know because I have Hide in Plain Sight on my Nook.
