When you're not reading a cozy....
I just finished Shiver- I disliked the whole Twilight series, so it kind of put me off paranormal romances, but really liked Shiver. I am now listening to The Graveyard Book and getting ready to start reading The Ask and the Answer (book 2 in the Chaos Walking series).
Susan wrote: "Heather, I loved those two!! Now we have to wait until August for the next one to come out!! GRRRRR-I cant wait to see how it turns out!!"
August?! Whimper...
August?! Whimper...
I finished The English American in the wee hours of the morning and started Mrs. Miracle by Debbie Macomber whose books I dearly love. I'm on page 213 so should be through with this either tonight or tomorrow. Next up on my list (because I can't renew it from the library) is a book that I saw mentioned in this topic by another member, What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew: From Fox Hunting to Whist-The Facts of Daily Life in Nineteenth-Century England. The title grabbed me right away, I really am interested in that era.
Dru wrote: "I'm reading Sleep No More by Susan Crandall and I'm loving it. I sat down to read and the next thing I knew, I was on page 152."Don't you just love a book like that? You start reading and three hours later you still don't want to put it down.
Susan,
Finished Catching Fire this evening. Do I need to tell you how much I loathed that last sentence? AUUUGGGHHH!
Is it August yet??

hahahaha I tried to warn you Heather! I hope August gets here very quickly for all of us waiting for the next book!! :)
I know I just wrote yesterday that I had started What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew: From Fox Hunting to Whist-The Facts of Daily Life in Nineteenth-Century England but I have to say it is rather dry and boring so before going to bed last night I grabbed A Christmas Blizzard by Garrison Keillor off my TBR list. Oh my goodness, I was laughing out loud. I hated to put it down and read until about 3 a.m. I have never read Keillor before although I have heard much about his books and his radio program. I will have to add him to my TBR authors.
I recently read No Angel by Jay Dobyns. It is about his harrowing undercover penetration into Hells Angels. I couldn't put it down.
Just started reading "The School of Essential Ingredients" by Erica Bauermeister. It's on several booklists, so I hope it is good.
I just started 92 Pacific Boulevard by Debbie Macomber . I like to trade between cozy mysteries and Romance books..
I finished A Christmas Blizzard. What a disappointment. It started off so funny and then the story just kind of fizzled for me. I was disappointed. I am getting ready to start A Year on Ladybug Farm. I hope it is better than Keillor's book. I am still working on What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew: From Fox Hunting to Whist-The Facts of Daily Life in Nineteenth-Century England. I find myself skipping large portions of it. It is written more like a text book than a novel.
I had good intentions to return to Mistletoe Murder, which I had set aside in favor of The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, but... I've had the song "The House at Pooh Corner" in my head for about a week now, so found myself reaching for The Tao of Pooh instead.
Just finished "The School of Essential Ingredients". I know, I just posted a little less than 3 hours ago I started it! It was a very quick read, but also, a very good read. It was sweet, sad, emotional and telling. I highly recommend this book.
I just finished listening to A Stolen Season by Steve Hamilton. I probably would have enjoyed the Unabridged version better.
Susie in KS wrote: "I just finished listening to A Stolen Season by Steve Hamilton. I probably would have enjoyed the Unabridged version better."The Alex McKnight series gets better as it goes, Susie. You have some great stories ahead of you. My favorites are BLOOD IS THE SKY and ICE RUN.
In addition to A Year on Ladybug Farm which is starting off really good I am also starting The McSweeney's Joke Book of Book Jokes what better book for a book addict???
Denise wrote: "In addition to A Year on Ladybug Farm which is starting off really good I am also starting The McSweeney's Joke Book of Book Jokes what better book for a book addict???"I read a A Year on Ladybug Farm and it was very good. I have the 2nd one on my TBR list. It was a nice diversion from the mysteries I am usually reading.
Kelley wrote: "Denise wrote: "In addition to A Year on Ladybug Farm which is starting off really good I am also starting The McSweeney's Joke Book of Book Jokes what better book for ..."Glad to hear some positive feedback on these books cause I really enjoyed them as well. There is a second one in the series that just came out called AT Home On Ladybug Farm, if you're interested.
I am about half way through A Year on Ladybug Farm, it kind of reminds me of the movie "The Moneypit". Having bought an old house myself I can maybe relate to this book more than some. I'm up to the tame deer story right now. Yes, it is good and since there is a 2nd book I will probably read that one too.
Melodie wrote: "I'm reading [image error]. It's YA fantasy. Pretty good, so far!"I have that on hold at the library - I am next on the list, so hope to start it soon.
Finished A Year on Ladybug Farm. What a good story. I immediately put At Home on Ladybug Farm on reserve at the library. Has anyone read Donna Ball's cozy mystery series Raine Stockton Dog Mysteries starting with Smoky Mountain Tracks? I love her writing style in A Year on Ladybug Farm and was wondering if anyone else has read any of her other books. She has 5 other pseudonyms too: Rebecca Flanders, Donna Carlisle, Leigh Bristol, Taylor Brady and Donna Boyd. From what I can see she has been writing for 20 years--and this is the first I have heard of her!!!I moved on to The McSweeney's Joke Book of Book Jokes. Do not even waste your time. I read about the first 70 pages and then skimmed another 25 or so--what a stupid book. One of the few that I have decided not to waste my time finishing.
The next two up (because they can't be renewed--someone is anxiously awaiting them at the library) are: A Pound of Paper: Confessions of a Book Addict, sounds good doesn't it???
And One Simple Act: Discovering the Power of Generosity by Debbie Macomber.
Denise wrote: "Finished A Year on Ladybug Farm. What a good story. I immediately put At Home on Ladybug Farm on reserve at the library. Has anyone read Donna Ball's ..."Denise, I have read the Raine Stockton Dog mysteries byDonna Ball and they were very good. I haven't seen any new ones come out for a couple of years, but I did enjoy the ones she did write in the series.

Kelley wrote: "Denise, I have read the Raine Stockton Dog mysteries byDonna Ball and they were very good. I found Donna's website and sent her a message asking if there will be anymore Raine Stockton mysteries. I will let everyone know if/when I hear from her.
Denise wrote: "Finished A Year on Ladybug Farm. What a good story. I immediately put At Home on Ladybug Farm on reserve at the library. Has anyone read Donna Ball's ..."I loved her Raine Stockton books and wish she'd write another. I'm a dog lover and loved the dogs in the stories.
Dru wrote: "I'm reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett and I'm enjoying it."I am listening to it on CD - very good so far.
Right now I'm reading the Mitford Series by Jan Karon. I also like to read Janet Evanovich when she comes out with something.

I really liked this book! Was hard to put down for me!
About to start The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan. It's the 3rd in the Percy Jackson YA books. I'm not loving these books like I loved the Harry Potter series, but it's a good and quick read on a cold day...like today :)

Heidi, I finished it..."
I am on CD 11 out of 15. I want to finish it so much now. I am so afraid Skeeter's b/f broke up with his previous finance because of something to do with black people. Don't tell me!!! I wish I had all day to listen to it so I could be done!
Melodie wrote: "Heidi wrote: "Melodie wrote: "I'm reading [image error]. It's YA fantasy. Pretty good, so far!"I have that on hold at the library - I am next on the list, so hope to ..."
I plan to pick it up on Saturday and start it. can't wait! Sorry if it seems like I am monopolizing this page! I love books.

Thanks for the support!
Just picked up At Home on Ladybug Farm and even though I have something like 16 books ahead of it to read (that are already checked out of the library) I couldn't help myself. I just had to see what is going to happen in the second year, what would become of Noah, etc....so it moved to the head of the class.

Dru wrote: "I will be starting Heat Wave by Richard Castle"This was a fun read! Reads just like an episode of the show.
I just started Await Your Reply: A Novel and am listening to The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society on audiobook. I just finished The Help on audio and am depressed that it ended. I loved it.
Currently in the process of buying a home so I was drawn to You're Not Buying That House Are You?: Everything You May Forget to Do, Ask, or Think About Before Signing on the Dotted Line. It may be a little late for some of the book as I have already made a bid on a house but I thought the book might cover some points that I haven't thought of or arrived at yet.
Well, I finished You're Not Buying That House Are You?: Everything You May Forget to Do, Ask, or Think About Before Signing on the Dotted Line, and A Pound of Paper: Confessions of a Book Addict. Started Kick the Clutter: Clear Out Excess Stuff without Losing What You Love but this is not a book to sit down and read for hours so I picked Like Father, Like Son, #3 in the Diamond Legacy series, out of my pile--I was up till 4:00 a.m. finishing it--I went through about 1/2 a box of tissues (my nose is so sore and my eyes are so swollen today). Then I got up this morning and started a cozy (see What Cozy Mystery Are You Currently Reading for which one I picked).

Next on the agenda is the english american by Alison Larkin. The book had me from the first paragraph. Here it is:
"I think everyone should be adopted. That way, you can meet your birth parents when you're old enough to cope with them. Of course it's all a bit of a lottery. You never know who you're going to get as parents. I got lucky. Then again, if I'd been adopted by Mia Farrow, rather than Mum and Dad, today I could be married to Woody Allen." Having been adopted and finding my birth family when I was in my mid-twenties I can certainly relate to that first paragraph. I am on chapter four. This promises to be a very good read.
