I love reading other mysteries and thrillers especially psychological thrillers. Authors like James Patterson, Iris Johansen, Tess Gerritsen, Patricia Cornwell.
Just finished The Horse and His Boy by CS Lewis, book three (sometimes mislabeled as book five) in The Chronicles of Narnia. This is one I missed when I read them way back in the 5th grade. Good, though it did not engage me as much as the first two books in the series.

Please, don't tell me that! *sniff* It's in my TBR and I've not been able to read any Twilight book *knocking table with forehead*

Thanks for the warning-I have too many books I really want to read without wasting time. I am so not a Twilight reader.

I'm not finding it like Twilight at all. I liked the Twilight books, but I don't find this like them other than the fact that there's a vampire in it.
IMO it is like Twilight for the older crowd Melodie. I dislike it for the same reasons - smart woman has to give up everything to be with a man, a man who is controlling and dominering. I am not into those types of books. I could list a lot of little things that are also similar IMO(her blood is more appealing than others, he doesn't want to have sex because he might kill her *sigh*), but I will stop there as I don't want to take up this thread. I just know the same things that made my eyes roll in Twilight are making my eyes roll again. I would never tell anyone to read a book or not to, I was just stating my own thoughts :)

That is probably it Melodie because if it is a love or hate book I am normally on the hate side. I am too picky I know!
Going to start Tattoos & Tequila: To Hell and Back with One of Rock's Most Notorious Frontmen this was one of my favorite bands of the eighties and have read The Dirt ,Tommyland, and The Heroin Diaries. So i had to read this one as well.
I loved Discovery of Witches and saw similarities between it and Twilight series although I didn't see the themes the same way Heidi does. I will point out that it was just a few themes that were similar - otherwise this is an entirely different story to the Twilight series. This is about a witch coming into her own power. The vamps are just a side ring. :)

.
Reading
and it is okay but not one of Rendell's best. Also reading
, sequel to Shanghai Girls which is excellent. Am thoroughly enjoying this one.
I just finished
Death along the Spirit Road. A debut novel of an FBI agent investigating on the Pine Ridge Reservation. It was very good, but a bit biased concerning the AIM and the events on the Rez in the seventies.
Just started
. If you like Harry Potter and enjoy Rick Riordan's books, this YA fantasy is just as enjoyable for adults. : ) It's the first in a new series and I'm really liking it.

I have about 1/4 to go and hate to see it end for many reasons. Really enjoying this book.
Started The Bite Before Christmas last night. This was a win from GoodReads last November, and I was really looking forward to reading it -- and then I did not get it until end of February. I've been putting it off since then as I haven't exactly been in the mood for Christmas stories. Decided to pick it up this week seeing as the weather is feeling quite wintry with windchills in the 20s. So much for an early spring!

by Doyle. A reread-but it has been a looooong time!"The only Sherlock Holmes story I've ever read was Hound of the Baskerville.
Finished The Bite Before Christmas by Heidi Betts last night. It was an okay read, not all that spectacular.
Am now starting Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Have been meaning to read this one for over a year now. Figured this was a good weekend to finally get round to it, seeing as the movie is just hitting theaters.

Finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen over the weekend--absolutely loved it! Am now reading a rom suspense received from a friend, Protecting Plain Jane by Julie Miller.
I finished
yesterday. I wanted to read it before the movie comes out next month. This isn't my typical genre but the story was pretty good. I didn't enjoy Emily Giffin's writing style. I found it to be choppy and lacking a flow. I know several people who really enjoy this author so it is probably just me.-Kimmie
Am currently reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, in honor of Holocaust Remembrance week. Only about 100 pages in, but am enjoying it so far.
Next up will likely be A Courtesan's Guide to Getting Your Man, since that is one I recently won from Goodreads and received in Saturday's mail.

I wish that I could listen to audiobooks. I just can't seem to stay focused. I have to have something to do with my hands and then that distracts me. Or I lay down and end up falling asleep. I've heard some great voices are on some of them.
Karen: Loving it so far. Great story, and some great quotes, too (one passage at bottom of page 111 had me snickering out loud. Please tell me I am not alone!).
Like you, I have difficulty listening to audiobooks, for the same reasons. I get distracted and miss what has been said, then have to rewind, or I end up falling asleep and have to rewind.

Heather, which edition of this book are you reading? I'm reading it in ebook form from the library. I'm curious because I'm trying to figure out if we are looking at the thing on page 111???
Like you, I have difficulty list..."
Karen: Ah, I did not realize you were reading in ebook format. Paging might be a bit different then. I have the tradesize paperback edition. The passage I was refering to is in the chapter "100 Percent Pure German Sweat" -- the narrator's quip regarding the salute. It begins with, "Many jocular comments followed..."
Ellie: I've been wanting to read The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop since hearing Buzbee speak on it at the Wis. Book Festival a couple years ago. I hope you are enjoying it!
Elizabeth: Glad you liked the movie. Have not seen it yet.

Heather, thank you. I'll look that up as soon as I finish running my errands. Blah. Grocery and drug store. Blah. Blah. Wish I was going to the bookstore!
Karen: You're welcome. Running errands is never much fun. I would much prefer shopping for books, too. Since Half Price Books is next door to where I bank and shop, I often have to force my feet NOT to turn in that direction. Oh! This weekend is library booksale weekend. That's right across from the grocery store. Nothing like rewarding yourself before you finish the errands. *g*
Heather L it took me forever to find the passage that you're talking about. Shuffling through pages on a nook is horrible. I found how horrible today. But yes I did find it. I thought it was hilarious when I read it. I can see a picture of it. :)
I need to grab my copy of the Book Thief so I know what you ladies are talking about. I bought the book last year after I finished it because I loved it so much.
