Amy Corwin (amycorwin) | 13 comments Hi!
I'm new to the group, but I love cozy mysteries so I'm glad to be here.

When I'm not reading cozies, I'm reading other kinds of mysteries, crime, forensics, a little horror (not the gory, but the stuff like Jackson's Haunting of Hill House) and a few romances like Jane Austen or Georgette Heyer.

Thanks!

I have these Bridal Quartet books in The Pile. Not my usual read. They were a gift and I don't usually care for Nora Roberts, except for the "In Death" books.

I never even knew that was based on a book! We just watched that movie last month and it really holds up IMO.

For fans of The Hunger Games:

"Lionsgate has announced to EW that The Hunger Games, the highly anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ futuristic YA thriller about scrapper Katniss Everdeen and her fight to survive a brutal reality TV contest, will be released on March 23, 2012."

I think I'm equally intrigued and afraid of how they might adapt this to the big screen.

Me too. I just can't picture it as as movie I guess. I am anxious to see who they cast. We have several favorites for all the roles in my YA group, but I think the only role everyone agrees on is Kristen Chenoweth as Effie. Otherwise the others are all over the place. I like Hunter Parish from Weeds as Peeta and I know some others like Jodelle Ferland as Katniss - she even dressed up as her for Halloween this year and you see her pictures.

I am SO hoping they get Hunter Parrish for Peeta! From the first description of the character in the book he was Peeta for me! I never got a really strong picture of anyone else in my mind, tho I kind of like Liam Neeson as Haymitch.

message 1262: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Melodie a lot of people have mentioned Robert Downey Jr. for Haymitch - I never even thought of Liam. Good to know we agree about Hunter!

I LOVE Robert Downey, Jr, but he's not old enough for Haymitch the way I think of the character.

Don't know who Hunter Parrish is, but I think Jodelle Ferland might make a good Katniss. I know both the director and producer agree that they would like a "relative unknown" as Katniss.

Check him out on IMDB. He's Peeta!

I've just finished Archangel's Consort and I've liked it, not so much as the other two ones but a lot. Now, waiting for Dmitri's book.

I like Amelia Peabody stories, is she cozy? I also like Simon Beaufort Sir Geoffrey Mappestone mysteries. But my all time favorite authors are Tolkien and Lewis. So I pick them up when not reading mysteries.

I usually don't waste my time with bad books. I think ANGELOLOGY was like a train wreck....I just couldn't look away!

Mary (resort) | 139 comments I read In the Woods. Loved the writing, which is rich with descriptions and good character developement. I was less happy with the plot, which promised more at the beginning than it delivered. Others seemed to like it much more, so it may have been just me In the Woods by Tana French

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments On Friday I finished My Name is Mary Sutter. I can't say enough about this book. The story was touching and kept me wondering how things were going to end up. I used to read a lot of Historical Fiction but then got kind of bored with them. This has stirred up an interest in reading a few more. It appears this is a debut for this author. What a debut it was. Can't wait for her next one.

I felt the same way I was really quite upset with the book and wanted to throw it across the room. It was very good but did not like the way it ended. There were questions I wanted answered.

I read this a couple of years ago. I'm a sucker for a dog story, but would have liked it better without the racing stuff. The only kind of racing I like is drag racing!

Kate Carlisle (katecarlisle) | 28 comments When I'm not reading cozies, I love romance novels, and lately I've been reading a lot of excellent women's fiction books. Susan Mallery, Debbie Macomber, Kristin Hannah are a few of my favorites.

I also love hardcore mysteries. Michael Connelly is consistently amazing.

Susan, I loved the Outlander series, too. What an amazing world Gabaldon created!

Personally, I think we need more folks like Judge Judy who tell people that they have to take responsibility for what they do not blame everything on someone else. I read both of Judge Judy's books and enjoyed them immensely.

Kate - Speaking of "romance", I'm also reading two autobiographies right now and I saw both of these actors in the play Love Letters when they did it in DC years ago - talk about chemistry! It was a fantastic play! The autobiographies I'm reading are One from the Hart by Stefanie Powers and Pieces of My Heart A Life by Robert J. Wagner. Ah, Hart to Hart! Now that was romance and mystery combined!

I love YA, Caroline! Haven't tried Rick Riordan's series, but love his Tres Navarre adult mystery series. I tend more toward the YA with vamps & weres, but I absolutely LOVED THE HUNGER GAMES trilogy! I'm currently reading Bloodlust (The Vampire Diaries Stefan's Diaries, #2) by L.J. Smith , which is base on the Vampire Diaries TV show rather than a continuation of the original books.

Kate,
I often pick up women's fiction and romance books too. I recently read How to Bake a Perfect Life: A Novel and loved it, especially since my son is studying to be a pastry chef. I think you'll enjoy Barbara O'Neal's women's fiction books, too.
