Kaye wrote: "I'm reading Louise Penny's first book, Still Life"I really like this series. Have read the first 2 and have the next 3 in The Pile.
Although in some ways it could be considerd a little cozy (at least to me), I'm about to begin another brand of mystery: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I have been rationing my Sherlock, but I need a fix!The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Shay wrote: "Just started Carry On, Jeeves, Garden Spells, and The Children's Book."I loved
by Sarah Addison Allen and hope to listen to Garden Spells on audio soon.
Emma my hubby and I have been watching all the old Sherlock Holmes episodes from BBC on Netflix (Roku) and it has made me want to go and read the books. I am also trying to watch the new BBC Sherlock series online on PBS, but have not gotten to them yet.
I'm reading Zeitoun
for my book club. I'm sure this will make for a lively discussion, as it's about the horrible effects of the inept, illegal, and irresponsible response of Homeland Security to Katrina on one family. Pretty scary stuff!
I just finished
. I didn't have strong feelings one way or the other about Howie prior to reading this book...but it was an uncomfortable read to me. I'm sorry that he has the issues that he does but he really came off as unlikeable to me.
I am reading Money Trouble by William J. Reynolds for my Nebraska read. I have tried to read all cozies, but this one is a PI book, and so far it is pretty funny.
Had to give up on Lost in a Good Book- couldn't stand it. Now I'm reading Interred with Their Bones. Much much better!!!
Finished
and
. Both were excellent reads! Has been awhile since I could say I read an anthology where all the stories were good, but they were in ETERNAL. Now reading
.

I have been testing the waters with different film adaptations as there seem to be so many that I can't tell which would be good and which may be stinkers. Any versions you like best?
OK Emma I will give them a try thanks :) Jeremy Brett is the only Sherlock for me, so any BBC adaptation with him can not go wrong IMO.
Heidi I wrote: "Emma my hubby and I have been watching all the old Sherlock Holmes episodes from BBC on Netflix (Roku) and it has made me want to go and read the books. I am also trying to watch the new BBC Sherl..."Just ordered my Roku today...can't wait to get it. Do you love it Heidi?
I love it Leslie! It is worth the money. Also Hulu Plus is going to be available on there soon and since I dropped to basic cable I plan to join and watch all my shows that way. We also use Amazon on Demand on the Roku, which works great :)
Finally finished Why? Because We Still Like You: An Oral History of the Mickey Mouse Club, which was won from GoodReads. I don't usually care for biography, but having watched the MMC in reruns growing up, it was interesting to read how it was concepted, actualized, and impacted children's programming (though there could have been more on that).
Now reading Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut.

Heidi I wrote: "Yay Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - stick with it because it is a slow starter."That's what I've been told. Seems like all of my friends on the M/T board read it a couple of years ago and they've raved about the trilogy ever since. Figured I'd finally give it a shot. It's my "purse" book, so will probably take awhile to get through. I'm also reading
.
I like to watch Charles Dickens BBC videos, first I watched Bleak House, then I tried reading it, am on my second go round of reading and finding it enjoyrabe. Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice the one with Colin Firth, Persuasion. Read Northanger Abbey, reading Anil's Ghost by Michael O, don't know how to spell his last name. Ondatjee? Read Camille Claudel, the sculptor, and also love watching the Cranford series,by Elizabeth Gaskell. Also read Scott Turow, Sue Grafton, when is her next coming out, does anyone know?

I am reading The Aloha Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini and A Fairwell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway. I haven't read any Hemingway for a very long time. His descriptions of place are quite wonderful. The Chiaverini is because I am a quilter and I really enjoy her stories.
Miki, Is The Aloha Quilt based around a quilter? I quilt, so this book looks really interesting. Please let me know how you like the series.

I liked Bleak House as well (and Cranford). Have you watched North & South (BBC version)? I highly recommend it. I also recommend the current BBC version of Sherlock and the BBC tv series Lark Rise to Candleford (which my library bought for me - yay!)
Heidi I wrote: "Robin wrote: "I like to watch Charles Dickens BBC videos, first I watched Bleak House, then I tried reading it, am on my second go round of reading and finding it enjoyrabe. When I'm not reading Cozy's I'm reading YA or watching movies. Although I prefer to read over movies. I have been trying to watch Sex and the City 2 for over TWO weeks! I get started and then have to stop, and repeat! Geez! I also work...grumble...and I'm finishing up my MLS...double grumble. But mostly I would rather be reading then doing all those other things :0)
I'm finishing up Knit Two by Kate Jacobs and then will be starting The Swimming Pool by Holly LeCraw
Dee wrote: Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is such a fabulous read! I cannot rave about it enough!"I agree. A very intricate, intense read. I'm just finishing the third one, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, and will be very sorry to come to the end of the series - though I hear hints that a fourth manuscript might exist.
may exist.
Paula wrote: "Miki, Is The Aloha Quilt based around a quilter? I quilt, so this book looks really interesting. I suggest you start with the first in the series, The Quilter's Apprentice, and read them mostly in order so you get to know all the quilters. I hope you enjoy them.

There is also a Return to Cranford which is just as charming as the first. there is also a Christmas in Cranford which I haven't got yet. Also Little Dorrit is good with Matthew MacFayden, I have another video of MacFayden, he also did a Pride and Prejudice in Colin Firth's role, I heard he was mean, Matthew not Colin in said role.
I've just finished
. I don't like historical romance usually, but Stephanie Laurens is the exception, I like her books a lot.

Robin there is only one Mr. Darcy and that is Colin! I liked Little Dorrit. Return to Cranford wasn't as good as the original, but still watchable. I had not heard of the Christmas one, so I will look for it. How did you like North & South? I have a small crush on Richard Armitage now. p.s. I hope you like Lark Rise - yay!
Have you ever seen the 1930's film of Pride and Prejudice with Lawrence Olivier and Greer Garson? Olivier was wonderful as Darcy. Garson, I thought was miscast, though she did her best. They sillied up some of the story and minor characters too much, IMO, but Olivier still made it good.
Heidi, at first Richard Armitage turned me off, by his beating his employee for trying to light up. I know that would have incinerated the cotton mill. I liked the portrayal, it reminded me of the Brontes, the mother her name was Maria, and the father was a clergyman as well, Elizabeth Gaskell wrote a biography of Charlotte Bronte, so the adaptation was good. I haven't read the book, heard it is diff. from the movie, but most are. I saw trailers of Larkrise, I like Julia Swahala, she is a good actress.Mary, I have seen bits and pieces of the Olivier 1930, maybe I should revisit that one as well. Olivier is also good in Wuthering Heights, I still love his portrayal of Heathcliff, along with Merle Oberon as Cathy. I have seen newer versions of WH. with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche, but that portrayal was too violent in my opinion.
This time of year I tend to go overboard on reading Christmas romances. I'm trying to use some restraint this year so I've only read a couple. I read
and
. Currently I'm reading
.
I finished
on Friday. It was pretty good. Reminds me of some the early Anna Pigeon series. Looking forward to reading more.-Kimmie
I especially enjoyed the Aloha Quilt. I have read all of Jennifer Chiaverini's books. It was nice to have a change of venue for this book.
I think my next book is going to be Juliet
. Anyone read it or know anything about it? A friend recommended it to me, but said she couldn't explain too much, I would just have to read it. It sounds like it would appeal to me, so I have high hopes for it. It is also the last book for me for a 50 books a Year challenge, so I hope it rounds the year out nicely.
