I'll have to mention this book to a gal I work with. She's Armenian and really hates Turks!

Definitely a fantastic 5 star read for me. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much Sandie. I couldn't put it down and sent it to an Armenian friend once I finished it.

That's a really good read, Susie. I read a few years ago and thought it was really first rate! The second in the series, SUGAR SKULL, is a a good one, too.

Good to know Marisa, I've never read any of her books before. It's sure started out well and has hooked me already.

I'm finding that I am enjoying it because I can relate to a lot of the places she talks about (Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights) because I lived around there most of my life. If you think the second one was good too, I will just have to add it to my PBS wish list ;)

message 1009: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I am reading Bayou Moon and The Sorceress.

Shay | 408 comments Let Me In by John Ajvide Lindqvist for Halloween. (A.k.a., Let the Right One In). So far, much better, more complex than an American horror novel.

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I'm reading Touch by Gayleen Froese right now. It's really interesting.

I'm also reading Deal Breaker (Myron Bolitar, #1) by Harlan Coben but I've only got 25 pages left in it and I've really enjoyed it.

I love Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar series. Don't care so much for his stand alones.

message 1014: by Shay (new)

Shay | 408 comments I don't like Coben's stand alone books either. I know it sounds horrible, petty, and childish, but I didn't read them when they first came out because I was peeved that he took a break from the Myron Bolitar series. When I actually read one, I wasn't impressed. Although, I didn't like the last Myron Bolitar that came out.

message 1015: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments I just finished Criminal Minds by Jeff Mariotte . It's a fascinating look at the Behavioral Analysis Unit (the real one) and the histories behind some mentions on the TV show and the real criminals. I like non-fiction sometimes and this is definitely not fiction (unfortunately!).

I agree. The last Myron book asked me to stretch my "believability factor" too thin, I thought.

Shay | 408 comments And Win just seemed so middle aged and wimpy. Yuck. And Win wasn't in the book enough. Kind of like Burn notice for me. When Sam (Bruce Campbell) isn't on the screen enough, I get bored.

lol, since last week, it is now up to 5 since so many mysteries are part of a series. I am pretty new to the group, but I have a feeling that that list is going to be growing way faster than I can ever manage to read. But I love it!

LOL... I know the feeling. For every book I cross off my list I swear I add five more. So many books, far too little time! *g*

I just finished The Percy Jackson Olympians series. Really enjoyed them and now I am ready for "cozy" again.

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 218 comments Just finished Garden Spells Garden Spells. Enchanting and interesting. A strange family of women in North Carolina surrounded by equally (in my mind) strange neighbors. Beautiful words put together to create a magical aura.

Mary Alice, I'm waiting on the 4th of the Percy Jackson series and plan to have it finished this year. Great series.

message 1027: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Again to my fellow YA lovers - I finished On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta this weekend and was blown away. It is a crazy starter though - it takes about half the book to understand what the heck is going on!

alicia grant (shesha556) I was lucky enough to fit The Immortals (Taylor Jackson #5) by J.T. Ellison in between my cozies this month. I really liked it and now want to get the ressst in the series.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I'm finally reading Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater ! I've been going to start it a couple of times, but always put it back so I could "save" it! I've gotten a few other new YA books that I've been waiting for recently, so figure I can stop saving this one!

I did not like this one as much as Shiver - the only reason I didn't hate it was because of the new wolf Cole.

I'm reading Talking About Detective Fiction by P.D. James and I'm enjoying a lot. It's like reading about old friends.

message 1034: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I finished Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater last night and really liked it, but I didn't love it like I did Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater . The story was told by 4 characters and sometimes I had to go back and look to remember just who was telling it. I'm really interested to see where Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater goes.

message 1035: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Melodie - Are those books like the Guardians of Ga'Hoole? I mean, are the wolves like the owls in the Ga'Hoole books? When I'm not reading a cozy, I like some YA scifi like Rick Riordan (have read all the Percy Jackson books as well as the Red Pyramid and can't wait to get The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan ). I bought all the Ga'Hoole books and finished 8 out of 15 so far but those are large (scholastic) paperbacks and go pretty quickly for me so I intersperse them with my regular mysteries.

message 1036: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Shiver/Linger are more romance than anything Caroline, but obviously since there are werewolves it is also paranormal.

As Heather said, there is a strong romantic bent to the Wolves of Mercy Falls books. I do really like the take on werewolves, tho. It's quite different from most books.

Vicki Doudera | 2 comments I just finished CODE TO ZERO by Ken Follet. I wanted to read a thriller because, as a mystery writer, I thought I might get some tips on building suspense. Follet is certainly a master at that and this book was an enjoyable read. He used a nifty little historical mystery (the aborted launch of a satellite back in the 50's) as the premise and did a good job imagining what "might have been."

Before I started reading it, I had a good feeling that I would enjoy it, but.... I really really like it. Will be one of my top reads for 2010.

I haven't read a Robicheaux book in years, but I've looked at this one several times. Met James Lee Burke at B'con in Vegas in 2003. Really interesting man.

Heidi | 2446 comments Wow you met him Melodie? That is super cool. This series is like a comfortable sweater to me, easy to slip back into after a year or so :)
