When you're not reading a cozy....
Sandie wrote: "Almost finished with The Gendarme
by Mark Mustain. Am really enjoying this book on many different levels. Never really learned much in school about the Armenian genoc..."Definitely a fantastic 5 star read for me. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much Sandie. I couldn't put it down and sent it to an Armenian friend once I finished it.
Susie in KS wrote: "I have had
on the TBR pile forever, so I decided to give it a try."That's a really good read, Susie. I read a few years ago and thought it was really first rate! The second in the series, SUGAR SKULL, is a a good one, too.

I liked it a lot. I usually like Andrea Kane's books.

Good to know Marisa, I've never read any of her books before. It's sure started out well and has hooked me already.

I'm finding that I am enjoying it because I can relate to a lot of the places she talks about (Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights) because I lived around there most of my life. If you think the second one was good too, I will just have to add it to my PBS wish list ;)
for Halloween. (A.k.a., Let the Right One In). So far, much better, more complex than an American horror novel.
I'm reading
right now. It's really interesting.I'm also reading
but I've only got 25 pages left in it and I've really enjoyed it.
Erin wrote: "I'm reading

I don't like Coben's stand alone books either. I know it sounds horrible, petty, and childish, but I didn't read them when they first came out because I was peeved that he took a break from the Myron Bolitar series. When I actually read one, I wasn't impressed. Although, I didn't like the last Myron Bolitar that came out.
I just finished
. It's a fascinating look at the Behavioral Analysis Unit (the real one) and the histories behind some mentions on the TV show and the real criminals. I like non-fiction sometimes and this is definitely not fiction (unfortunately!).
Shay wrote: "I don't like Coben's stand alone books either. The last Myron book asked me to stretch my "believability factor" too thin, I thought.
And Win just seemed so middle aged and wimpy. Yuck. And Win wasn't in the book enough. Kind of like Burn notice for me. When Sam (Bruce Campbell) isn't on the screen enough, I get bored.
Heidi I wrote: "For other YA lovers I just finished
and loved it. It was very funny :)"I read this (multiple times, I believe) in high school and loved it! Brings back memories; I don't think I have ever heard anyone mention it before.
Heather L wrote: "Emma wrote: "Since joining this group, my cozy radar has gone wayyy up. I now have a two page list running of the cozies I need to find due to recommendations and such. This site is bad for my wall..."lol, since last week, it is now up to 5 since so many mysteries are part of a series. I am pretty new to the group, but I have a feeling that that list is going to be growing way faster than I can ever manage to read. But I love it!
Emma,
LOL... I know the feeling. For every book I cross off my list I swear I add five more. So many books, far too little time! *g*

Oh good another Celia lover. It is a really fun book.
May I mention a sale that could interest those of you who use e-readers? Backlist EBooks is having a Halloween sale of over 40 books listed on Smashwords - mysteries, romance, and fantasy. Just go to http://www.backlistebooks.com and click on the "Specials" tab to see the list of books and the coupon codes to get 25% off! And yes, my RESORT TO MURDER is one of the books :-) The sale runs from Oct. 23 -31. Happy reading!
I just finished The Percy Jackson Olympians series. Really enjoyed them and now I am ready for "cozy" again.
Just finished Garden Spells Garden Spells. Enchanting and interesting. A strange family of women in North Carolina surrounded by equally (in my mind) strange neighbors. Beautiful words put together to create a magical aura.Mary Alice, I'm waiting on the 4th of the Percy Jackson series and plan to have it finished this year. Great series.
Again to my fellow YA lovers - I finished
this weekend and was blown away. It is a crazy starter though - it takes about half the book to understand what the heck is going on!
Shay wrote: "

I was lucky enough to fit
in between my cozies this month. I really liked it and now want to get the ressst in the series.
I'm finally reading
! I've been going to start it a couple of times, but always put it back so I could "save" it! I've gotten a few other new YA books that I've been waiting for recently, so figure I can stop saving this one!
Melodie wrote: "I'm finally reading

I finished
last night and really liked it, but I didn't love it like I did
. The story was told by 4 characters and sometimes I had to go back and look to remember just who was telling it. I'm really interested to see where
goes.
Melodie - Are those books like the Guardians of Ga'Hoole? I mean, are the wolves like the owls in the Ga'Hoole books? When I'm not reading a cozy, I like some YA scifi like Rick Riordan (have read all the Percy Jackson books as well as the Red Pyramid and can't wait to get
). I bought all the Ga'Hoole books and finished 8 out of 15 so far but those are large (scholastic) paperbacks and go pretty quickly for me so I intersperse them with my regular mysteries.
Shiver/Linger are more romance than anything Caroline, but obviously since there are werewolves it is also paranormal.
Caroline wrote: "Melodie - Are those books like the Guardians of Ga'Hoole? I mean, are the wolves like the owls in the Ga'Hoole books? I do really like the take on werewolves, tho. It's quite different from most books.
I just finished CODE TO ZERO by Ken Follet. I wanted to read a thriller because, as a mystery writer, I thought I might get some tips on building suspense. Follet is certainly a master at that and this book was an enjoyable read. He used a nifty little historical mystery (the aborted launch of a satellite back in the 50's) as the premise and did a good job imagining what "might have been."
Laura wrote: "Reading Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly. Great book! I have about 100 pages to finish."I heard this was a great book.

Before I started reading it, I had a good feeling that I would enjoy it, but.... I really really like it. Will be one of my top reads for 2010.
Laura, I'll have to request it from the library. Thanks. Must be amazing to make your best of the year list.
Dru, I'm reading Indulgence in Death (In Death, #31). I'd just begun A Cadger's Curse but the library said that J.D. Robb's was available and... the flesh's weak *blushing*
I'm in the middle of Chasing Lincoln's Killer by James L. Swanson
. It's the YA version of his bestseller, Manhunt. Very readable and interesting.
Heidi I wrote: "I am listening to
. This is the only series my hubby and I both follow together."I haven't read a Robicheaux book in years, but I've looked at this one several times. Met James Lee Burke at B'con in Vegas in 2003. Really interesting man.

I'll have to mention this book to a gal I work with. She's Armenian and really hates Turks!
