Currently have two books going, which is not usual for me. On is a short classic mystery, R. Holmes & Co. by John Kendrick Bangs. The other is A Week in Winter by Maeve Binchy, which is this month's group read for another group I am in.

I really liked Charlie Huston's Joe Pitt books. Don't run across many people who are familiar with them. Definitely a different take on vampires!

I read the first one ages ago and have had this one in my TBR for years! I like them too. Very noir.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I'm currently reading (almost finished) Dark Debt and finished Dead Heat on Friday - both of them excellent reads!

Good to hear DARK DEBT is good. Didn't care much for the last full-length book!

Just finished it last night - so much great snark - I was laughing out loud in a couple of places.

After about 1/3 of the way through the book, I sort of dreaded where it was going, but the author did something different that what I expected and it ended up being a great story line. Plus, more Mallory! :)

I think at the age of 14 or 15 when I read it, I probably was wishing I was reading Gidget or Seventeen magazine. Maybe I'll give it another try since my taste in books has matured along with my age.

It's great isn't it? I enjoyed it much more than I enjoyed the last one.

@ Heather: I was the same way with the latest Others novel Vision in Silver - I made myself stay away from the book until Thursday night when I knew I could stay up all hours reading it without worrying about work. :)

I'm reading Rock Hard now. I don't usually read contemporary romance, but I've taken an exception with her and I'm liking it (in the same way I began to read her Guild books when I'm fed up with vampires).

Pearl Meaker (pearlrmeaker) | 27 comments I'm currently reading Life in a Jar The Irena Sendler Project by Jack Mayer . It's a novelized historical book about a Polish woman who saved many Jewish children in Warsaw during the Holocaust and the three Kansas high-school girls who brought her to national attention. I am really enjoying it so far.

Carla (carla1957) I read just about anything. I read crime, mystery, thrillers, dramas, romance, cozies, non-fiction, best sellers, Christian, YA, some fantasy and magic etc. About the only thing I don't read is Horror and books with lots of graphic sex. Right now I am reading Cane and Abe by James Grippando , The Inconvenient Indian A Curious Account of Native People in North America by Thomas King and How to Fly with Broken Wings by Jane Elson . I plan to start To Hell in a Handbasket (Claire Hanover, Gift Basket Designer, #2) by Beth Groundwater , Eggs in Purgatory (Cackleberry Club, #1) by Laura Childs and Decked with Folly (Pennyfoot Hotel Mystery, #17) by Kate Kingsbury when I am finished with the first three. Ambitious, yes, but I am retired.

I loved it - it wasn't like anything I'd ever read before (keeping in mind my reading isn't nearly as varied as yours is Melodie) and it really just made me feel like a kid reading a fairy tale (or something).

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I'm currently reading Last Days of Summer and I'm loving it - about 1/3 of the way through it and it's excellent - funny and oftentimes very moving without making me weepy at all.

If you are a fan of the 40's era, and you like baseball (or at least don't dislike it) it might be worth checking out. Some profanity in it though, for those that are sensitive to the use of colorful language.
