I also had a heroin addict in my life as a teenager and while it didn't make me 'dislike' Eddie, I had no sympathy for any of his struggles due to the withdrawal symptoms. I pitied and judged him and the thought of "You brought this on yourself" ran through my mind for most of the book. I'm in the middle of Wizard and Glass now, so haven't seen Eddie in a while, but thinking back to when I last saw him, the fact that he is an addict had mostly been forgotten. Now his tendency to allow his mouth to run away from him is his main fault.

So this book i actually liked better than when i first read it. The character interactions are fantastic. It really goes to show why these three are such a tight ka-tet in the following books. Eddies and Sussanahs interactions are absoultely top notch. The ending where Mort dies is one of my favorite of the whole series. The second i read it i knew what was going to happen in The Waste Lands. Drawing of the Three is really the first glimpse you see of how Roland is not by any means a perfect hero. He is severally flawed. I love how this book introduces the character. The doors is a genius way to introduce them and i also like how Roland can go inside them and sort of control them. This isnt my favorite ( i know E will disagree but my top spot goes to Wizard and Glass and followed closely by The Waste Lands but this is sitting at third place) it had some issues with pacing and just pages where really nothing happens what so ever (and thats saying something for King) but it is not my least favorite by far (looking at you Song of Sussanah).
Final Score- 4/5
