Wayne Barrett | 45 comments I'm almost halfway through this one and I am really digging this book. One personal observation; I am seeing Eddie Dean in a whole new light. Unfortunately, I was surrounded by a lot of heroin addicts when I was growing up, so junkies have always disgusted me. When I first read this book, about 25 years ago, I disliked Eddie as soon as he was introduced simply because he was an addict. It took me a long time to warm up to him and I realize now that because of that I missed out on the early part of a great character. Well, time has passed, a lot of the old bitterness has abated, and I really like Eddie. I can certainly see why Ka (or Ka-Ka as Eddie would call it) pulled him into Rolands Ka-tet.

I also had a heroin addict in my life as a teenager and while it didn't make me 'dislike' Eddie, I had no sympathy for any of his struggles due to the withdrawal symptoms. I pitied and judged him and the thought of "You brought this on yourself" ran through my mind for most of the book. I'm in the middle of Wizard and Glass now, so haven't seen Eddie in a while, but thinking back to when I last saw him, the fact that he is an addict had mostly been forgotten. Now his tendency to allow his mouth to run away from him is his main fault.

Wayne Barrett | 45 comments Man, I forgot how mean Detta was in the beginning. That is one crazy bitch.

Wayne Barrett | 45 comments I'll finish this one today. I'm not sure where the rest of the group is, but I think I'll start another book and slow down a little.

Dustin (dedzed) | 20 comments I’m travelling, which affords me some time to read, but I’m only about 100 pages in so far. Haven’t gotten to Detta yet, but I’m looking forward to it. I do have a pretty good memory of how crazy she was at first. Actually, for some reason I have much clearer memories of this whole book, than I did of The Gunslinger, even though I read them both together, back in the day.

Sarah (is only writing short reviews for now) (sarahjf1984) | 36 comments I thought the idea of Roland being able to see through Eddie's eyes and either take over or allow the owner of the body to be in control was fantastic. That's what drew me in and got me so excited to start with for this book.

Ben Budavari | 16 comments Joined this read a little late! This is my first read of the DT series and so far its awesome! The Drawing of the Three has me hooked since the start of the book, I'm really starting to get a feel for the series and am stoked to see what unfolds. I'm halfway through Drawing of the Three so i think I should be right along with everyone else, i can't stop reading though so we shall see.

Ben Budavari | 16 comments Just curious, where is everyone at in the book?

Wayne Barrett | 45 comments I'm finished and have moved on to Wastelands but still keeping up with all the comments here.

Ben Budavari | 16 comments I have about 80 pages left so after this I’m going to finish the short stories in Everything’s Eventual before I start Wastlands

Ben Budavari | 16 comments Or is there any other short story collections by king anyone thinks I should read first?

Dustin (dedzed) | 20 comments I’m into the Detta section now. Fuck, she was crazy as hell, haha.

Wayne Barrett | 45 comments Different Seasons is a masterpiece, but I would say it is more like 4 novella's rather than a collection of short stories. I'd say it's a must read for a King fan.

Wayne Barrett | 45 comments As for a pure collection of shorts, I agree with you on Night Shift. I should reread it one of these days considering its been about 35 years since I read it.

Evan Butler | 2 comments Hey guys sorry im late i finished the book but i just now joined goodreads. I really liked this book and would like to know what everyone else thought. The following paragraph has MAJOR SPOILERS. You have been warned

So this book i actually liked better than when i first read it. The character interactions are fantastic. It really goes to show why these three are such a tight ka-tet in the following books. Eddies and Sussanahs interactions are absoultely top notch. The ending where Mort dies is one of my favorite of the whole series. The second i read it i knew what was going to happen in The Waste Lands. Drawing of the Three is really the first glimpse you see of how Roland is not by any means a perfect hero. He is severally flawed. I love how this book introduces the character. The doors is a genius way to introduce them and i also like how Roland can go inside them and sort of control them. This isnt my favorite ( i know E will disagree but my top spot goes to Wizard and Glass and followed closely by The Waste Lands but this is sitting at third place) it had some issues with pacing and just pages where really nothing happens what so ever (and thats saying something for King) but it is not my least favorite by far (looking at you Song of Sussanah).
Final Score- 4/5

Sarah (is only writing short reviews for now) (sarahjf1984) | 36 comments Mort's death was definitely satisfying.

Ben Budavari | 16 comments Finishing up Everything’s Eventual and starting Wastelands tonight, I also got a camping trip this week so I’m ready to put in some serious reading time

Tracy Robinson (tracy_reads79) | 9 comments Now starting Lady of Shadows. Just as in love with this book as I was the first two times I read it. Maybe more so. Meeting Eddie again was perfection. I may be a tad behind, but I'm catching up quickly.

Dustin (dedzed) | 20 comments I finished a few days ago, and I had a lot of fun with this one. It was a lot better than I remembered it being, but I last read it as a teenager. I guess I was a dumb teen, lol.
