Yay! I loved the buddy read I did for the Decathlon. I definitely want to Circe but the others too depending on the tag and what book my local book club chooses (and if I ever finish my espionage book).
I may have mis-spoke(typed)-I have read this already but did say I would follow the discussion as I absolutely loved this book, I am in for Circe! The Weight of Ink also looks like something I would like to get in on, but I need to check if I can fit it into another challenge first.
As you know I am in for all three.:) Maybe if we are lucky Jason's life will slow down and he'll join in at some point. If he comes back soon I'll even add another espionage book this month!! Is that a bribe?
Just chiming in here that you should absolutely feel free to start a thread for your buddy reads! Just let me chat with the other admins and see where the best place to put them would be.
If you would like to post a discussion thread for each of your buddy reads, then please feel free to do so in the 2018 Challenges and Activities folder and start the thread title with, “Buddy Read.”Also, admins will not be checking the thread for reviews, so be sure to cross post any of your reviews to the monthly tag or nonmonthly tag thread, as appropriate.
Thanks!
Nicole, thank you for helping me figure it out. I know you've read two of these. Maybe join us for the Weight of Ink?
No thanks, I have a long list of books lined up already that I am itching to get to. Though happy reading as it does look good!
I will happily join in on both The Weight of Ink and Circe! Coincidentally both are at the top of my TBR pile, just waiting for me to finish my last Pop Sugar Challenge read, which will be this week as I am already a third of the way through it. I am new to the group and have not done a buddy read before. Any guidelines as to how this proceeds?
Hi Theresa,To be clear, these are not official PBT activities, but are something that Amy is organizing and leading on her own and we are just offering the space where the discussion will occur.
PBT did host some official buddy reads a couple of months ago as part of our Decathlon Challenge, but when that concluded, a few members expressed interest in doing more buddy reads and offered to lead some future discussions—like Amy!
I just wanted to make sure everyone, especially new members, understood what was going on!
So, having said that, any guidance or directions will come from Amy...
Welcome Theresa. I have no specific ideas about how this happens, although our group had a lot of fun with this in July. This is not a PBT sponsored thing, so there aren’t points, guidelines, and rules. Basically, I open a thread for us all to enjoy, and we use it to comment about where we’re at and eventually post reviews and talk. I would say, especially for a large group like Circe, is to try not to hold a spoilers conversation, until all of us have finished it and checked in as done. So we can talk about together, but not ruin it for the last straggler. Nicole reminds us that to get PBT points, you still need to cross post to monthly tag, monthly other, or wherever else this fits. I hope that helps. Best, Amy
Nicole, that was pretty simultaneous! What the heck ya doing up? It’s 3:17AM for me, so it must be 5AM for you and Theresa in your time zone is also up at bat like hours. New Sunday conversation idea- are we all insomniacs? Lol.

Nicole R - thanks - I was pretty sure it was not an official PBT event... so that means:
Amy - might I suggest that perhaps set a few weekly goals in reading each book? So that discussion can at least occur (using spoilers for those reading at a different pace) on some part of the book as the month proceeds? I'm a fast reader, but can try to pace the reading to flow along with everyone else when necessary. But if there are no distinct goals, I'll just forged ahead, then keep my mouth shut until end of month.
I think folks are just going to have to set their own pace. I have three kids a big furry dog, and we are all starting school. Plus then there’s my very full work practice. My goal is to get through each day with spirituality. The books just have to fit in there as they will.
Amy, I got my copy of We Were The Lucky Ones. I'm ready for September.
My two cents on how a buddy read should proceed - I love checking in to discuss the book and how I feel about it throughout the read, and this is typically how I have done it with other book clubs online. Everyone reads at their own pace, discusses throughout the month, or just waits until the end, however they like it.But of course, as Amy mentioned, be cautious of spoilers.
Sounds good! ...
I didn't see any previous threads, would this be filed under footnotes as "November Buddy Read: Circe" or somewhere else?
After I confirm the "rule," I will make sure to get us going in November.
I didn’t post anything yet for the three reads. I think you’re welcome to start it. I would just sometime in October give you the list of names of folks were interested and I think we’re close to 10 which is really exciting. The only other thing to mention it to pay attention to where Nicole said we should post them. Your idea is perfect. I think that one’s going to be super fun. I will post for the first one with Rachel and I by September 1.
Meli, you know I just realized all the names of interested folks are already on this thread - Duh! No need to hear from me to get started. 💗Amy
So.... Amazon messed up the packaging/delivery of a recent order that was not a book (shampoo and it leaked all over the box)... they gave me a digital credit so I used it to purchase We Were the Lucky Ones since the print version is on sale right now, so long story... I'm in for Sept!!!!
I'm in for Circe and possibly The Weight of Ink. As to We Were the Lucky Ones, although it is on my planned reads list, with the High Holidays and my move into the new apartment I just don't think I will have the time.
Yay Linda! That’s gonna be a huge group. It be so interesting to read with all of us together! Meli will be our fearless organizer.

In September, Rachel and I and Joanne are reading We Were the Lucky Ones. I was supposed to read this one originally with my buddy Jason, who is temporarily missing. All blessings for Jason, and I hope we see him soon. Please feel free to join us. I do recall another person or two that might have been interested. We welcome to widen the group.
October's proposed buddy read is the Weight of Ink. My local book club is reading it for October 21st, so I am going to start it at the beginning of the month. I welcome you to join me.
The third as some of you already know and are excited for, is Circe. We have quite the interested group so far, including:
Kate NZ
Rachel Levy
Meli
Joanne
Magdalena
Idit
Others; Feel free to join us. Should be fun, and this seems to be the fastest growing group of the three. For those who want to start We Were the Lucky Ones, "Lets Go!" I of course am waiting to hear about the tag and the decathlon to best plan the month, but I will finish Love and Ruin before leaving Colorado, and will start the Forgotten Garden before I get on the plane.
Jason, if you are seeing this, know that you are missed. All blessings to you and your family. I almost fail to believe we lost you for espionage. But maybe if you pick up just one book to re-start, you will start with one of these three and stay connected to us. Whatever you might choose would be our fourth buddy read together of the year. But I am also a patient lady, and I know 2019 will bring us wonderful books and hopefully continued conversation.
