ABANDONED. Historical Paranormal Ghost (well, sort of a ghost) Romance. Some spoilers.

I am looking for this historical paranormal romance book I read around the early 2000’s
Where this guy can make him self appear like a ghost. If I remember right he comes to her at night in her room even though he is a live. Maybe it makes him tired when he does this?? I want to say he dresses himself as a knight too. I am sorry this all I can seem to remember about this book.
I do know there are 3 books in the series.
The 1st book is about his dad who can read ppls mind but he can’t read the mind of his wife until he admitted to himself that he love her. Then he was bond boarded with all the love she felt for him. I remember they where in field when this happened.
The 3rd book I never read I want to say he could read animals or he could control animals
