Does not have to be a finished series? I want to nominate Thrawn.

It should be, or it wont go over well. You might want to nominate it as a single book instead next time it fits the criteria

I liked this book, but it really is more Fantasy than sci-fi.

I wouldn't object to that one, it would fill a lot of 2018 goals. Already read the first one and found a copy of the 3rd, just looking for the 2nd.

I'd classify it more as fantasy than sci-fi. But since it's won three straight Hugos, I think we could let it slide. I mean, the VALIS trilogy is not really sci-fi either, it's more like philosophy.

From what I've read, much of what he wrote after his suicide attempt in 1973 (4?) was trying to understand what led to that and what was going on inside his mind. VALIS is a pretty clear manifestation of that I think, which is why I say it's more philosophy than sci-fi. Other than PKD being a noted sci-fi author, if you didn't know who it was, would you classify it as sci-fi? There's the premise about a beam from space, but that's not really what it's about, and the other two books don't have such contrivances.

And I suspect that that series has been read by lots of people already.

As moderator, I will let you decide if it fits or not. Sorry if I have caused an issue. I found it on this list: https://theportalist.com/best-sci-fi-...

I haven't read it yet. I third the Engines of God nomination. One of the last sci-fi recommendations I got from my Dad (who died in 2013) was that series.
I also suggest the engines of god nomination. I read the first 6 books or so about a decade ago and they are great!
